Deceidon arrives at the town hall and inquires of Capt. Hal.
"We have struck a blow against the bandits and reclaimed much stolen treasure. Now is the time to finish the job. What say you?

The Captain's response is short, sweet, and to the point. "I will muster my men and meet you on the morrow. I suggest you hire some of the locals as well, I only have so many guards who are worth anything really." Nothing more really needed to be said. The Captains smile spoke for its self.Grognardsw wrote:Deceidon arrives at the town hall and inquires of Capt. Hal.

Whitsell listens and pipes in...Rukellian wrote:As Whitsell enters the main merchants square once more, he can see some of his group members go about in different directions. Gustov inside a weapon shop overlooking something at the counter, Deceidon heading over to the townhall, no doubt to ask about the hiring of men, and Flynn.... accompanied with Amberlyn. He takes an extra moment to see where they are heading off too, alone. Knowing Amberlyn though, Whitsell surmises that its probably just some herb picking, and Flynn her guard, he hopes.onlyme wrote:whitsell will next move on toward an armorer... at least he will know the value of those... maybe find one that glows...
Heading towards the Armorer himself, Whitsell spots another adventurer talking with the smith and happens to overhear their conversation.
"Reynold! Can't you cut me some slack here? Look, I know this armor keeps on falling apart, but that's because I keep on using it in rough combat. You know this, and I'm willing to pay." The smith just looks at the man while shaking his head in dissaproval.
"Aye, you have the coin lad, but not enough I'm afraid. I run an honest business here and I run special concessions to no one. Your an adventurer though, attacking those bandits right? You should have enough coin..."
"But I don't! *sigh* Trust me, if I had enough coin, I would sooner give up the adventuring life and settle down. Just a couple hundred more coin, just a couple hundred more..." Reynold just laughs at the young man, pushing off his silly notion of raising such a large amount of money in such a short period of time.
"Go work at a farm, boy! Like I keep on saying, I thinks it be more suited to your, skillset than adventuring life."
Greetings fellows. Maybe I can be of assistance. We have been asked to gather as many brave townsfolks as we can to push back and destroy the bandits who keep pestering you once and for all. Looking at that armor, it shouldnt cost too much to get it back into fighting shape for such a noble cause. Should it? I might could spring for it if this lad here was to help defeat those crooks.
Oh, and Mister, uh, Reynolds, I beilieve. Anything you may have to enhance this plate I acquired? It is heavier than I would prefer. I suspect the last fellow thought weight equaled protection. But we both know, that weight equals death in a fight...

The smith, Reynolds looks over at Whitsell and says to the adventurer: "Looks like we be in luck lad, this here fellow has come to help you out, and give me business as well!" The smith looks at Whitsell's coin purse and nods in approval, "yes, you could probably pay off his repair fees at full, considering that it is plate mail he is wearing.... I swear boy! Just how did you get that hulking piece of equipment on you in the first place?"
"It's a family heirloom! I keep telling you this," he puts his thumb to chest as he speaks of this proudly. "Passed down from my great-great grandpa, to my great grandpa and... well you know, now I am the proud owner of it!"
"Uh-uh, yeah, but you heard this smart fellow over here, extra weight is not good in battle, it can mean death. Do you mean to say that you've gotten used to its weight already?!" The adventurer offers but a smug grin.
Bringing his attention back to Whitsell, the smith then continues what he was trying to say earlier before he got sidetracked. "This here boy's plate mail is a fine piece of work, lasting as long as it has, 85 gold would be all he need for me to do quality repairs. A good deal I think considering how expensive those things are. And for you. If you truly are going to pick up the boy's tab, I be willing to lighten the load of that chain mail of yours for a mere 15 gold, what say you?"
The young adventurer is excited upon the prospect of helping finish off the bandits once and for all. "So much coin must be in there... I will do it! If my armor is repaired, you have my sword friend!"

I thought Whitsell picked up a plate mail from the first group of bandits once they landed in this place?

"Thank you, Capt. Hal," says Deceidon. "I have a concern about the trustworthiness of the men. Can you vouch they do not have ties to the bandits, and will alert them prior? I recommend we not tell the force what the mission is until right before the attack. We simply say there is a pack of dangerous animals that have moved in and we need to exterminate them. Once we get close to the bandit camp, we tell them of true purpose. This way no prior word can alert the bandits."Rukellian wrote:The Captain's response is short, sweet, and to the point. Re: Chapter 3: The truth lies in the mountain...
It was a chainmail, its even listed under your character sheet as such, or did I mistake something? Let me double check.onlyme wrote:I thought Whitsell picked up a plate mail from the first group of bandits once they landed in this place?
Yep, double checked. It's chainmail right now. I have it listed under the treasure and experience thread.
Re: Chapter 3: The truth lies in the mountain...
The Captain nods in understanding as he answers Deceidon's concern. "It's true, the majority of the townsfolk were previously bandits, and I wouldn't trust them as far as I can throw them either, but there are a number of adventurers here, who have shown up in the same way we all have, mysteriously and suddenly. Some have taken residence here in the settlement, having not found a way out of this place, others are still looking, still eager. I'd look to those people."Grognardsw wrote:"Thank you, Capt. Judging from the many encounters already made in this town of sorts, Deceidon and his group will be able to easily discern who is an adventurer like them and who is part of the townsfolk. Most of the people worth looking to hire are usually found in the inn that the group stays at as well as the weapon/armor shops.
Re: Chapter 3: The truth lies in the mountain...
You consider the dagger of a high quality. As you feel for its weight and balance, both prove exceptional in value. Just as the man said, it was almost weightless. The shopkeeper readily accepts the 400 gold and says, "trust me, if anyone brings anything in that catches my eye, or if I find anything, you will be the first to know!"NJWilliam wrote:Gustov nods again, and picks up the weapon, feeling both its weight and balance in his practiced hands, and feeling its edge for keenness.Rukellian wrote:
"Truth be told, I know not how well it cuts or performs in battle for that matter, but when I picked it up, its weight was almost non-existent, as if it were as light as air itself! I've heard of such qualities from elven craftsmenship, but never really believed in it until I came across this. You may pick it up and get a feel for it yourself, but I'd wager that items like this usually go for hundreds of coin. I-I don't want to sound too ill-struck with greed, but I was thinking somewhere around 3-400 gold?"
If it feels better to him that the "ordinary" daggers he just bought and those he is used to using. He will say to the shopkeeper, "Well, it does seem to be well crafted, and certainly has a certain look to it. I can pay you 400 gold for it, and if your hear of any other well crafted weapons or armor, I'd appreciate if you keep me in mind and let me know."
Make sure you adjust your coin inventory accordingly. The dagger is not magical, but due to its fine make, it has a built in +1 to hit and damage.

sorry. didnt look and was misremembering...
Whitsell sets aside 100 gp, and prepares to hand them over but halts.
The 15 for mine sounds more than fair. Tis what I would have charged myself. Now lad... I need some convincing for this expense. How you gonna repay me? half of your take up until the 85? oh, and...
he pauses to make sure the boy is listening.
If something happens to you, lad, I expect your gggranddaddy's plate to pass to me. Is that fair?

The young man looks to the ground for a minute then nods his head slowly. "I suppose that should be fair. I'd have no use of it if I were dead... don't plan on me dying though," he laughs. "I assume that the bandits will have plenty of gold stashed away somewhere, my share would naturally help pay you back. Sound good?"onlyme wrote:Rukellian wrote:The smith, Reynolds looks over at Whitsell and says to the adventurer: "Looks like we be in luck lad, this here fellow has come to help you out, and give me business as well!" Re: Chapter 3: The truth lies in the mountain...
"Well any amount of men will be helpful," says Deceidon to Capt. Hal. "Lump has served well. I will go now to see about recruiting others."
Re: Chapter 3: The truth lies in the mountain...
For those in town, business is short and finished in a satisfactory manner, some seeing more excitement than others. Whitsell, not having found a suitable jeweler, turns to the local armorer and helps out another adventurer in need, effectively recruiting someone for the task ahead. Whitsell also pays the smith to lighten the load of his chain mail, all the while maintaining its sturdiness. It has been done. The max move rate for Whitsell's is now 100 ft when wearing the armor in question, the weight having been reduced to 25lbs. (the AC has not changed)
Gustov's pursuit in obtaining better equipment is also successful as he stocks up on his favored throwing daggers and a mining pick. He also comes across a finely crafted elven dagger, an object of great value that predates the early elven civilizations in the land of Kinra. He hands over the necessary coin for such an item and now carries it proudly in its sheath. The dagger in question, due to its fine make, has an inherent +1 bonus to hit and damage. (the item is not magical, to be clear)
Deceidon sets out to the town hall to discuss with Captain Hal the idea of recruiting more men for the event at the mountain. He is weary of the townsfolk and is not sure as to who he can trust. The captain listens and understands readily as he suggests for Deceidon to seek out other adventurers in this strange world. Most of them can be found in the inn that the group is staying at, but others may be found in other parts of town, or even still out in the surrounding forest. Captain Hal gives Deceidon his word when he says that he will muster his own men on the morrow, a rough count of six guards.
Flynn returns to town with a jubilant (always wanted to use that word, sounds funny
) smile on his face and makes his way to the inn. (did tooley want to do any shopping of his own before ending the day?) If anyone asks where Amberlyn is, the swashbuckler will know that she returned home safely, and will tell the group thusly, but will not reveal any more if he can help it!
This is where I am at with the group. Let me know if I missed anything. I will wait on Grognardsw/Deceidon and Tooleychris/Flynn, to see if they wanted to do anything else for the day, like further recruitment or buying of wares. Once everything has been settled for the group, I will move things along and start up the next day.

Deceidon goes back to the tavern, orders a drink, chats with the barkeep and leaves an extra-big tip. "Do you know of trustworthy men who frequent the tavern? Those good with a sword who weren't bandits or thieves in their past?"

Flynn, figuring perhaps incorrectly, that the town has nothing he needs, will head back to the inn and see if he can find Deicedon to discuss strategy.
He is NOT forlorn because, as far as his walk with Amberlynn went, he feels the chips are all falling into place.
in case any of you are closet psions!

There, I fixed up my previous post to reflect Flynn's jubilant behavior! <---- DM speaking

The smith, Reynolds, will just point you towards the weapon shop, saying something along the lines of only dealing in armor and other miscellany.onlyme wrote:Whitsell will also go to the armorer to see if any special swords
Here is the item list again, for those who don't feel like scrolling back up to the previous post.
Considering the fact that Whitsell is still concealing some of his gold placement, the shop keeper will only show what is available, if in fact he has another special item towed away somewhere. I wouldn't count on a sword of +1 showing up though.
