"Ok, since normal weapons can't harm... whatever that is, and I invested in thieve's tools rather than thaumatugists spellbooks what do you suggest I do? Use foul language? I guess I could use my dagger but I doubt it's that powerful."
Again, humor masks Saul's fear.
I figured Saul wouldn't know how to spell thaumaturgist.
I also recently re-watched Aliens, if you haven't noticed.

Meagnor the Elf feels hopeless trying to figure out what's happening. He tries to remember his master's acounts about circles and runes trapping demons, elementals and other outerworld beings. He knows, anyway, that if there's to be a fight, his weapons won't help him. He steps back, holding but ready to cast his Magic Missile spell.

Tratiln will call upon his arcane knowledge to try to determine what this creature might be and what could possible hurt it besides magic weapons.

Bregalad the elf
A dark and curious dread takes hold of the elf, as he sees the holy water block the darkness within the circle.
Bregalad continues to watch as Thordin nears the dark form, "Well, this has without doubt been a learning experience for me. Firstly, do not try to talk to ghostly girls. Secondly, do not try to lift a curse by destroying a magic circle that radiates evil. What other lesson does this tower have yet to teach?"
TK, you have done it again. First, you freak me out with mind controlling spiders that are inserted into our brains! And now it appears that we are facing a dark demon from hell!
Next time, guys, let's just fight orcs!

Neither elf has any idea what sort of beast is in the process of forming, much less the proper way of disposing of it.
Rolled both out on my phone, assigning a +5 penalty due to the esoteric nature of the questions and the rarity of summoned creatures. Surprisingly, even though both elves have high Intelligences, they both failed, Meagnor with a 21 and Tratiln with a 24.
I don't think this will change anyone's actions, but I'll give y'all a couple of hours before I post the first round of . . . something, I suppose.

Drudsa the dabbler
Drudsa tries to think back to the rituals and dark entities he read about in his old master's library.
Arcane Lore +1 Int
If he cannot think of anything smarter he will get one of the silver pellets he's been crrying around and will try to shoot it at the dark cloud.
+0 to attack roll, range 40/80/160, 1d4 damage.

Round One
Thordin steps forward, flashing blade in each hand, and delivers two powerful blows at the murky maelstrom before him. Both slice harmlessly though the darkness, which moments later coalesces into a strange and utterly bizarre creature. About the size of a small horse, the monster has the slick, hairless body of a seal but the sleek, scaly head of some unknown piscine predator. Its mouth is lined with hundreds of sharp, pointed teeth while bulbous eyes roll wildly atop the fishy head. A pair of scaly, slimy wings sprouts from the things backs, flapping futilely. The whole beast is shrouded in some eldritch black flame that gives of an intense heat at short range. Truly, this can only be a demon of some sort, a personification of Chaos itself! Googly eyes fix upon the dwarf and the head snaps forward, but Thordin is able to avoid the atavistic assault upon him.
A silver sling bullet arcs through the air and passes harmlessly behind the creature, as Drudsa's shot goes wild. Meagnor utters strange syllables and an arcane arrow appears in the air beside him; it streaks towards the abomination and bites deep into the thing's side. Black ichor belches from the wound! The beast shrieks -- an insane, high-pitched gurgling sound -- and casts its head about wildly in an attempt to spot its attacker. An eye fixes Meagnor in its baleful gaze and the elf feels an ancient presence buffet him about, but he stands firm and the pressure soon abates.
There were a number of unclear actions posted earlier. I hope this post resolves some of them.

Lanny the elf
Seeing the powerful effect of Meagnor's Magic Missile strike, and the subsequent reaction by the demon to try to find its attacker, Lanny quickly rises to a knee from his prone position. With one hand firmly holding his shield in front of him to try to avoid the direct gaze of the demon, Lanny chants arcane words as he points a finger at his otherworldly enemy.
Casting Magic Missile. 1d6+1 damage.

Marodin
Marodin will charge into battle and swing at the demon seal with his war-hammer. He will not cross the circle.
Semele should be staying as far away as possible.
Masterwork Warhammer (specialized, vs unarmed opponent) +4, d6+2
-2 AC bonus vs two attacks per round from unarmed opponents

"Well, these stairs were getting too comfortable for me anyway..."
Saul has no hope as he mutters this but he walks down a couple of steps so that he can fire at the demon and not be seen. He'll try to shoot until he's sure of just how effective, or ineffective, his weapons are against the shape this demon has chosen to take on.
TK, do you have signatures on? I put my attack bonus there so it would be faster but I just remembered you might have them hidden. Here's the info, just in case: 1d20+4, 50/100/150, 1d6 - Basic Proficiency (+2 base attack bonus, +1 dexterity bonus, and +1 displacer beast bow bonus).
Someone remind me of buying lots of holy water and something that can take care of demonic and/or ethereal creatures next time we're in town.

Meagnor the Elf is shocked by the mental attack. He retreats even more, recovering his breath and screams: "Magic can kill it!"

Thordin the dwarf will take another swing at the beast.
Just for clarification, Thordin has his Rowan Shield out for this fight, using the Magic Sword in his primary hand. Magic Sword +7 to hit, 1d12+3 damage, -2 AC vs 1 attacker, 1 deflect attempt (same), Save vs. Death Ray is 7.

Round Two
Before anyone else can act Lanny quickly intones the words to his spell. A glowing arrow appears next to him, and with an outflung arm speeds towards the demon, striking it unerringly. The demon roars in agony once more, and a gout of gore flies up into the air. Suddenly, the black flames surrounding the fell creature flare up into an intense fireball, immolating the demon and singeing Thordin's whiskers. The fireball collapses in on itself, shrinking down to a tiny pinprick and leaving naught a trace of the demon's passing but a greasy stain upon the floorboards.
Thordin suffers 6 hp from the demon's immolating death throes. Only Lanny cast a spell this round. You guys lucked out big time; the demon's shadow only had 11 hp. Of course, that means that if the real demon is ever released from the circle it will only be down 11 hp!

Tratiln looks around for a moment. "Ok, new plan. Let's leave the circle alone."

Marodin
"Amen to that, brother Tratiln."
Marodin will quickly move to treat Thordin's wounds.
"Can't do nothing for your beard though, mate. I reckon even if it doesn't grow back, it'll make a good story for the ladies back home, eh?"

Lanny the elf
Lanny slowly rises to his feet after the demon vanishes and slowly approaches the circle. He studies it quietly for a moment.
"It appears the circle cannot be destroyed from the outside with mere physical force. Yet it might be possible somehow to destroy the circle from the inside, using skill and cunning... But until we know more about how these circles operate, we should not even approach it. Before we do anything else, I would suggest we search the boxes and crates in the storage rooms on the third floor. Yes, it will take time, but this demonic experience has been a wake up call - we need to know what the wizard knew before we meddle with any of the wizard's magical creations. Perhaps he kept journals of his summonings and stored them in those boxes. I think it is worth taking the time to look before we proceed to the crypt."
Lanny looks around at his companions for other ideas, and then down at the circle on the ground.
"I am hesitant even to try to cover it again with wood, lest our meddling damage the circle's perimeter again."
Lanny votes boxes first/crypt second, but he is willing to go straight to the crypt if there is no desire in the party to take the time to search the boxes.

Marodin attends to Thordin, only to find the arcane nature of the flames that burned him are untreatable by non-magical means, or at least by one of his experience.
