The device is about the size of a man's fist and is stained and a bit pitted as from a ride through Jump Space, but it appears to have survived that ride well enough. The device is small and positioned where it would be very hard to spot by anything but a close inspection.

None of you think it was there back on Extolay when cargo was unloaded, nor when later freight and cargo was loaded aboard the ship. However, there was a time between loading and lift off where maybe it could have been placed there unnoticed by someone moving close to the hull.

Sigrun hasn't seen this particular device before, but she's seen similar ones used by "ethically challenged merchants" used to send a burst signal to a relatively nearby receiver. Question running through her mind include who attached it, when, and why...and is it still active?
Sigrún exclaims "Sorðinn!!!"*

"Ýmirs eistna - we have a parasite! Nei. Skitr, heimsk víking - in Imperial! We are bugged! That is a covert burst transmitter put on our hull at Extolay. The range may be short if they want to not broadcast the signal".

She continues more calmly "We need to examine it and then possibly ditch it into the cargo we're dropping here. Either a Corporate agent or a pirate spy placed this. I think one is better than the other. If this marks us out for a pirate ambush and is just them conducting their regular business... Then that gives us a chance to fight our way out!"

(OOC: * Her "finishing school" was about ending a melee...

Trans; "By Ymir's balls... No. Shit, stupid viking - in Imperial!")

Roger that. I'll be inside working on this if anyone needs me.

After being stopped by Sigrún he turns to her and says We will see what I can find out about it. Might not be a bad idea to see if I can shield the workbench so if it does transmit it goes nowhere.

Doug then returns to engineering and proceeds to study the device.

I couldn't find the campaign id for this game. Anyone know what it is so I can link my character in the roller?

Sigrún immediately replies to Karcsi "Spearbrother, you have a deeply suspicious mind!" Then she gives a ready laugh "But I've already thought it through. Bob got off on Phlume - one jump before Extolay. So it doesn't seem it was him".

This was placed near a cargo hatch.

So... do we have outer hull security/safety cameras covering hatch operations?).

Doug observes that this small device is attached to the hull with some sort of magnetic system. He can disable that and remove it. He also observes that the shell on the device can be removed without detaching the device from the hull to get a look inside if he wants to do that.

Yes, you do have a camera that would cover hatch operations...however, it is in a somewhat concealed position, so you might or might not see what happened. You'll also have to review a lot of data as it could have happened at most any time the last day or two you were in Extolay.

Campaign ID is 1058

I was absent for a bit (doing my taxes took much longer this year) so this post got in before I gave you the options:
  1. removing the device from the hull and then opening and examining in Engineering

  2. removing the cover of the device while in place to examine before removing it from the hull and taking it to Engineering.

The results you get could differ. :)

Instead of the trip to the Gun Store or after the trip to the Gun Store?

Speaking of which, I would like a definitive list of who is going with Sigrun to the Gun Shop and if the trip is starting before or after the freight is transferred to the waiting lorries.

Oh, and don't forget Donovan as meetings scheduled at the Octagon Bar as well as an office in that Building for this afternoon/evening to meet with Exporters about freight and possible cargoes.

Sigrún moves near Doug as he initially examines the "bug".

She advises "Chef, take off the armoured shell and see if you can dump its memory and then paralyse it in place. There is every chance that if you remove it from the hull or set off any anti handling devices it will transmit. Oh, and it might also try to bite your hand off!"

Sigrún won't leave with ship work in hand (unless presented with some persuasive argument otherwise).

OOC: So I think the sequence will be (unless someone wants to do differently):

Unloading freight and then Gun store.

Karcsi will tell Sigrun what he wants. "A heavy auto pistol, ACR with a heavy barrel and a side by side large animal hunting rifle but with ap ammo, or nastier. If you are not sure what i want, send me a vid. I will spend time on the comms here."

Doug smiles a conspiratorial smile at Sigrún. That is just exactly what I was beginning to think. Thank you for that. Would you mind staying here a few minutes while I do that. I would like to know if we have eyes on us while I do this. He pauses for a moment and then looks back at her, It also wouldn't hurt that if this thing blows me up there is someone to find the pieces quickly. Stand back here goes nothing.

He then starts humming and you hear him singing under his breath It's been a hard days night.

Flight he will keep an eye on the situation as well. It is all to put a big crowd outside the ship that would draw attention, so he'll do so remotely if you can. If Doug needs assistance, he'll be ready to jump into action but otherwise stay out of the man's way.
