Buck shows up scratching his head and blinking the bright daylight out of his eyes. He grabs a chair and pulls it up to the table with the others.

"Near as I can tell, my best skill is a steady hand. I ain't got no fancy learning or anything."

Huck nods, looking towards Zebedee.

"I aint xactly the most well spoken man around, but I'm fine doing the talkin if we go see the Boss. Unless our resident snake oil salesman here wants that job? I'd bet his tongue wags like a dog in heat when he's trying to make a deal."

Zebedee Goldrush

"The tongue of the wise and not the forked tongue of the barbarian tribes.

If I have your confidence I shall vouch for the group."
he says, adjusting his cravat.

"Unless there is more to discuss, let's go see this boss man and ply our services to meet his need."

Once breakfast is finished, Huck will take anyone who wants to go along before heading over to the Herzog and Manchester Mining Company to have a look around.

If he sees anyone who looks like they might work there, he greets them.

"Hey there pardner. We're lookin fer Boss Herzog. Any chance he's around this time a day?"

Brynner

Packs away his satchel of Expeditions and frontier exploration books. He hopes to eventually write his own annual of adventure and discovery. Maybe even get some tavern song sung in his memory or an epic poem written in his honour. For now he satisfies himself to be a vagrant looking for honest work.

He follows along to Boss Herzog's.

Zebedee Goldrush

"No rush for Goldrush. We can take our time to consider things." he says.

Once everyone is ready, he will front the group and go knock on Herzog's door, showing the advert and enquiring to the specific need.

"Mr Herzog Sir. Glad to meet your acquaintance. My acquaintances; men I have assembled as gifted and able specialists in their fields of industry, and I have come to offer our services to aid your distress and that which afflicts this town. Such a harrowing and mysterious disturbance by all accounts."

He works on his introductions.

Rockton Heights, 8:00 am

After finishing breakfast, you all head over to Herzog and Manchester Mining for an audience with your prospective employer, Boss Herzog.

You enter the establishment and see an older gentleman in a gray suit, smoking a cigar. He acknowledges you and asks, “Prospective investigators I presume?”

The ranger goes in, doffing his coon-tailed hat and takes a seat or standing place by the wall too. He makes room for Zebedee if he is going to be the spokesman.

Casually I will look around the room rather than at the gunslingers, seeing if any territory maps and region blueprints are on the wall. If so they will interest his study, otherwise he remains silent.

Huck moseys inside as well, nodding at the Boss man and looking for a chair to sit in.

"Huck Berry, friends. Charmed, I'm sure."

He looks over the pair of gunslingers carefully, trying to learn any details about them as he can while Zeb does the talking.

Carter Stone enters and stands off to the side. He takes note of the gunslingers so he'll recognize them again. He nods to Boss Herzog.

Elijah enters, find a place to stand or sit and takes his place after approvingly looking over the boss and his gunslingers.

"Elijah Wolf at your service."

Buck walks in with the others. He tips his hat at the Boss and says, "Buck Saylor, sir." He then takes his place to the side to allow Zebedeeh to talk. He will take not of the gunslingers without being overt about it. (How they're heeled, what they wear, do they look like they know how to handle their guns or are they there for show, etc.)

Rockton Heights, 8:00 am

Boss Herzog nods acknowledgment and responds to the introductions, offering a set of chairs in front of his elaborate office desk.

Image

"When the miners failed to make their weekly supply run, I sent a scout to check on them. He returned pale as a ghost, raving about unnatural disturbances at their camp; shadows moving where none should be, whispers on the wind, etc. Too terrified to linger, he fled without touching a thing. When I ordered my other crews to investigate, they balked, muttering curses and threats to quit rather than step foot near that forsaken place. Cowards, the lot of them!"

He spat, jabbing a thumb at the two gunslingers. "Except these two.” One of the men spits into a spittoon as if acknowledging Herzog.

There are maps of about a dozen mining claims in the immediate area.

The gunslingers fit the phenotype of Northern Europan descent. They appear tough and experienced, their eyes reflect individuals that don't tolerate trouble makers. They carry well-maintained gun belts, holsters and pistols.
