Two of those trogs were from the first wave, not that our characters might know that. I assume this was some sort of reserve group, or a group that was sent to swing around and catch anyone from leaving that way.

I didnt pay enough attention to the numbers, but were these the ones that escaped earlier? I wonder what kind of dent we would have put into their army, overall?

Alordan will make ready to track the trogs down the trail that they had come. "I'll look to head down that trail a piece and see what I can see. I"ll not go too far at this point but be able to provide some advance warning maybe."
Alordan waits before proceeding to see what the group is going to do so he has an idea of what the situation will be if he makes a tactical "i.e. running his ass off) entrance back into town.

"It's interesting that we approached the town from the south also. I wonder if they may have followed our trail from the falls? I can see these maybe lurking down deep in that cave behind the falls..."

One of them did sport fresh wounds, so you would have been able to infer that it was one of the pair that got away. The other escapee was also in this new bunch, but there's no way for your characters to know this for sure.

out of interest how many got away from the battle now we've dealt with those two finally. And how many did we kill?

Total kill count: 16
You managed to kill 11 total troglodytes in the original battle (two more managed to escape). So far, you've killed 5 (of 6) more from this current group, and one of those killed you suspect as being one of the two that escaped earlier. The second escapee might also be in this group, but you don't know.

Based on timing, it would appear possible that we captured or killed (just waiting on official DM notification of that last one, unless he has more than 12 HP left) all of the trogs that would have come to town at all this morning. So, any others would not know about the battles/ defenses.

Is it possible to tell from the trogs approach and movement onc ein town if they were heading for a specific location in town?

Once this remaining trog is dealt with, Gwillt suggests that he and Alordan begin searching the perimeter of the town to see if they can determine where the trogs came from, if any escaped, and which way any that escaped might have gone...

Round 2

The remaining beast contemplates an escape attempt but, recalling the ranged capabilities of the group, realizes its fate is pretty well sealed, but is determined to bring one of you with it to the afterlife. It turns its attention to
Strom, but all three attacks fail miserably. Moments later,
Ewell strikes it down.
(+80xp each)
The threat alleviated for the time being, members of the group begin surveying the scene.
Shanigans moves to police the area back by the Sleeping Dragon Inn;
Gwilt and
Alordan spread out in an organized manner looking for tracks from these seemingly persistent beasts.
Epsilon, now back in his armor, returns to the group; he and
Grimnail wonder what brings the swamp beasts to O'Hare, but the creatures barely set foot in the city before the group came to the aid so their motive -- aside from simply terrorizing the locals -- remains unclear.
You're barely able to catch your collective breaths before you realize the intermission will be short lived.
Alordan and
Gwilt begin coordinating their planned scouting when, almost immediately, they spot another band of these swamp beats approaching from the south. This incoming group is still several hundred yards away
(currently out of bow range), and the exact numbers cannot be made out, but you estimate there to be at least eight, and probably more.
Shannigans, heading to the
Sleeping Dragon Inn to perform some policing calls back to the group:
"Umm, guys." and points to the far side of town
(east). Looking to where the halfling is directing your attention, you see smoke billowing into the sky. Now that your attention is drawn to this area, screaming can be heard from that direction and the unmistakable smell of file begins to pollute the air.
---
Okay, tomorrow is day one at the new job and it is unlikely I will have an opportunity to check in on the game during the day. I should be able to log in later tonight, though, and will reply to any open questions at that time. A quick summary:
South
The incoming group is definitely advancing towards the town, but are still a good distance away (at least one or two rounds before they're even in missile range).
East
There is a fire on the opposite end of town. What is on fire, and what caused it are both unknown.
---
Kaltar, you are the first character to officially reach second level. Congratulations! Per the rules established regarding Advancement, you can roll for your new hit points now (minimum of 2), but no additional abilities will be immediately gained.

Congrats Kaltar.
Good battle folks. Killed 6 trogs without a single scratch on us. Doubt that happens every time...
Strategies? I still think we need to rally the locals to come out and help. Now that they see that we can take down these things, maybe they are more willing to assist. That said... do any of us need to split up and fight the fire?

congrats on new job, DM! Hope it's everything "they" told you it would be and more.
Level 2 looks good on you Kaltar! I'd love to try it on for size but it won't fit for quite some time.
"One Eyes patch but dees fool lizards er persistent! " curses Grim.
"Ders too many ta split our own strength ta check yonder fire AND fight. Deys doin der job well!"
Grim starts eyeing the ground for more dropped javelins and scoops up what he can in a round or two.
"Gimmie a good sword armed fella or two ta hold 'em off a bit while someone checks dem fires! No sense us fightin an dyin if it's all gonna burn anyhow! Some'un tell dems townfolks dat be hidin ta grab buckets. Dey either fight 'n lizzies er fires!"
As soon as a couple javelins are in hand Grim will rush to close distance with trogs. Not even looking if anyone heard his suggestions or not.

"Hey, Garth... What was that spell you cast on those orcs the other day? Think you can do that again?"Gwillt asks, as he draws another arrow and nods his head in the direction of the approaching trogs.
Noting the smoke, his nod turns into a head shake."What now? A fire? I'd say that's supposed to be a distraction. Lets let the townsfolk take care of the fire; we should take care of the stinky threat to the south."
(Careful, toolychris; that Dex AC bonus isn't going to work against 8+ opponents)

LOL! I'm playing an orc barbarian. GOTTA play an orc barbarian. W.W.C.D? (What Would Conan Do?
) But seriously, I'd feel like I'm breaking character if I back down as long as there's help.

Finally... A wingman when Ewell tries to fight 20 at a time.

Strom spits on the ground. Another group? Egad, I hope they don't stink as bad as the rest.
He looks towards the smoke then back again Perhaps we should pull back to investigate the fire. It is not good saving a town from attackers if it burns down anyway.

Shannigans quickly flanks to the southeast, (eventually cutting back southwest to his friends in a round or two), hoping to possibly distrupt any flanking attacks upon his allies, or to spot those who may be setting the fires before they are allowed to reinforce the southern attack.
Edit: Will probably take at least a round or two to get to the southeast. Turning southwest a round or two later from there.
