Chapter 2: The Comet’s Tail (Revs & Baby Blue}

Revs nods "Let's play it cool, get a drink and read the room a little."

He heads over towards the bar.

Baby Blue

Baby Blue follows Rev to the bar, her eyes flicking about the room, her eyes lingering a moment on the man in tweed. She orders the second cheapest drink on the menu, and then closes her eyes and studies her new memories. She's going to try to gauge interest: how much interest, if any, the other people in the bar have shown in their entrance. She looks for signs of hidden weapons: unusual bulges, awkward movements, that sort of thing. She tries to get a sense of what the man in tweed is doing, how comfortable he seems, if he seems to be watching something.

She also, as always looks for the exits.

The man in tweed doesn’t react either when Baby Blue nods in his direction at the door, nor when her gaze stops on him for longer than the others in the room. Looking at the man, his hair is a graying, middle-aged man. Seated, it’s somewhat hard to put a height to him, especially given that so many others in the room are larger metatypes, so they are hard to use for comparison. His build is on the slender side of average. His once black hair, full pointed beard, and mustache are mostly gray, though hints of their former color remain. Strong lines of wrinkles frame his hazel-brown eyes. His face holds a long nose with flared nostrils, thin lips (usually pursed into a straight line), and a shield-shaped, pointed chin. A dark reddish-brown scar runs from Basil's right ear to his right eye, all the way over the lower lip, widening as it approaches the eye.

Despite the unseasonably hot weather, the man wears a full three-piece tweed suit with a white long-sleeved button-down collared shirt. He also wears gloves. A full-length tweed overcoat and a tan camel flat cap sit on the booth. At The top both, within easy reach of his right hand, sits a dark wood cane with a copper head, embossed with silver lilies.

No one else in the bar seems to be paying any mind to Baby Blue or Revs. The two women in the first both continue their argument. The four orks seem intent on their quiet conversation. The trolls at the far end of the bar may be doing some sort of biz. It seems like hands dip below the bar out of sight more often than the norm. One pair of human men seem like they might be on a date. The other human couple – a man and a woman – almost seem to be ignoring each other even as they face each other doing shots.

Revs seats himself on a bar stool an orders a mid-priced beer, something common and unpretentious. Once he has the beer he turns on his stool and casually glances around the room, trying to decide how best to approach Basil and make it look coincidental.

The bartender gets both Baby Blue and Revs their respective beers. He does demand payment immediately, not allowing either to start a tab. No one is moving around the bar at the moment, so it would be difficult to make any approach seem casual. Basil does sit with his back to the wall of the game room, so perhaps “heading into the game room” to watch the ongoing pool game or use one of the simulators might work… Since the main bar area has no restrooms, presumably the door to reach them must be back there as well.

Revs turns to Baby Blue "Do you fancy a game of pool? I might check out the sims too."

Baby Blue

Baby Blue shrugs. "Sure. We can play a bit of pool."

{Revs}

Revs nods, grabs his beer, and heads over to the games room.

Basil completely ignores Baby Blue and Revs as they walk past to head to the game room; his eyes do not so much as flicker in their direction. The ork and dwarf playing darts glance over to see who has entered the game room, but turn back to their game without saying anything.

All four pool tables are available.

Revs wanders over and checks out the simulators first.

Baby Blue

Baby Blue grabs a pool cue, plus the nearest pool table, sets up the balls, breaks them, and then starts trying to sink a few.

Looking at the simulators close up, Revs sees that these are not video games; they are the real deal – full immersion simulator units. They have jack points for those equipped with the ware to use them. For the uncybered users, there is a trode set to give the simsense experience. The seats swivel, move, and give feedback. The simulators, from the signs on them, run the gambit from motorcycle, car, and passenger truck to big rigs and road trains to watercraft to small planes, passenger jets, and helicopters. They even have one for hovercraft and another for tracked vehicles. Some even have seating for two users to practice pilot and copilot or maybe pilot and gunner; that part’s not clear from the signage. They are pay-to-use, of course; slot your stick only; no cash accepted. The prices run from 10¥ a minute for the bike and car simulators to 100¥ per minute for the tracked vehicles. It sounds exorbitant, until factoring in that the flight simulators cost less than taking live flying lessons.

As Revs is looking at the simulators, his wrist phone rings. Looking at it, he sees that it is Headstone.

{Revs}

Revs looks over to Baby Blue, "It's Headstone, I'll find somewhere more private to take it." he looks around for somewhere, maybe a door out to the back of the bar.

The game room has no exits. The only other door Revs has seen is the one behind the bar. However, the hall to the restrooms sits in the center of the left wall of the game room. Heading into the men’s room, he finds it empty.

Baby Blue

Baby Blue nods to Revs and continues her solo game of pool, though she does keep a close eye on the hallway to the bathroom.

Revs hangs up, and heads back into the games room. As he approaches Baby Blue at the pool table he speaks at a volume he hopes will be overheard by Basil.

"He just wanted to borrow money, again! And I told him no, again! It's like the guy just doesn't get how much everything costs for maintenance and upgrades, despite how may times I tell him."

Baby Blue

Baby Blue rolls her eyes. "Some people. Your friend here yet, or you wanna shoot a bit of pool?"

"No sign of him. Let's play a game. If he's not here by the end of it, we need to find an alternative."
