Zaki stiffens as if she's been struck. Tears spring to her eyes; she opens her mouth to speak, and then clamps her jaw shut. She locks eyes with Sigrun with pain and distress etched on her face. After a few heartbeats, the Vilani woman turns and flees to her quarters, staggering on her bad leg and ricocheting off her door frame as she enters her room. The door locks behind her with a code that only Flighty can override.Tiglath wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 3:05 am
She then turns from Donovan and deliberately leans into Zaki's personal space smelling of wargear and workouts says "Would it vex you if I favoured Donovon? The ending to that story was that I gained a fine vacc suit but both she and I went away happy - so now I owe you for two good memories". She adds casually "You have seen my scars. OOC: Yeah, it is! But now, back to procedures...

What is everyone doing during this jump? I'm not playing out your training, but you do need to roll (or tell me to what to roll for). Any more searching the ship? Digging into Avionics and/or the Computer? Making plans for what you do when you emerge in the Rangent system?

Sigrun is training as per her schedule Dex & End (with Zaki) and Axe (with Karcsi) but also instructing Donovan and Flighty in melee.Eris wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 7:56 pm What is everyone doing during this jump? She is looking to "adapt" two sets of standard ship gear to look "Swordy" for both herself and Donovan (military styles and colours). Our axes, sidearms and "blondeness" might be the principal element here but she's had Doug print pins to allow standard ponchos to be pinned up at the shoulder in the swordy (dark age) style.
And hurl us at Rangent as soon as you like and don't mind all the "soap" - I'm amazed you can see for all the bubbles!

We will make another pass on the ship. Flighty will insist we work in pairs. Another check for sabotage, too. It's a lot of work, but we have to be sure.
He'll let Donovan work with the engineers to figure out what the avionics package was doing. They'll need to be sure it doesn't do anything else.
At some point in the flight, he'll sit down with everyone so they can make plans for Rangent. "We have goals once we get to Rangent. We need a new transponder, and preferably a new registration. We have the ownership papers but we don't want to leave tracks they can follow. That means emerging without a transponder while not offending everyone here. Then we need someone that will help us for the right price, which will likely involve selling our salvage. Cargo, too, if we can. Thoughts?"

After ten minutes there's movement at the overhead hatch leading to the upper deck accommodation as Sigrún's bare feet and then legs become ever more visible descending the access ladder. While it becomes apparent that she has not been skipping leg day it also appears that she is wearing her only civilian clothing – her short shorts and a white crew T shirt and that her long blond hair is loose and still damp from the fresher. In a voice pitched much more softly than her usual tone she quietly protests “Stop staring – you've all seen me before!”
In fairness the assembled crew just haven't seen her looking like this. She is very feminine. She keeps furniture between herself and her comrades as she picks her away over to the galley and selects a bottle of white wine and chills it. Selecting two mugs she returns them then searching for two glasses from a higher shelf while protesting “No getting ideas just because I'm unarmed and with my hair down and no looking at my arse!” She blushes deeply as she hurries delicately over to Zaki's door and knocks speaking softly but urgently “Zaki It's Sigrún – I'm sorry. I'm sorry and the entire crew are ogling me like I'm for sale! I need your help with my hair and I want to talk. Please... before I die of embarrassment!”

I'm not sure who sleeps where but I guess PCs are 4a-d adjacent to crew commons and the bridge while the Engineeers and new arrival Sigrun are in the upper deck “Passenger” staterooms. Deck one as per the map?)

Flighty is in 4, directly by the bridge. If we ever start taking on passengers, we'll have to figure things out more thoroughly. The basic Free Trader mandates a crew of 4: pilot, engineer, medic, and steward. We've got seven, I think: Flighty, Zaki, Karsci, Sigrun, Donovan, Bob, and Doug. We might need to make 4a-c double occupancy. 4 too, if I'm missing someone. We'd need bunks for that, but I'd bet that can be worked out if we need to keep the passenger cabins for paying folk.Tiglath wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 9:47 pm After ten minutes there's movement at the overhead hatch leading to the upper deck accommodation as Sigrún's bare feet and then legs become ever more visible descending the access ladder. A scan of the character sheets reveals two things. One, Bob has no sheet. He's a ghost. Probably the saboteur.

Sigrún offers "We have agreed where we try to contact those who facilitate pirates and I am styling two sets of gear so Donovan and I might pass as Sword Worlders. We can hopefully at least get in touch with some of the Belters who can either broker a deal or put us in touch with those that can. Depending on how things look on arrival we might conduct our initial enquiries via comm and the Belters' datanet or make our run ashore in the air/raft - if its zero G capable".terrymixon wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 8:39 pm At some point in the flight, he'll sit down with everyone so they can make plans for Rangent. Yeeees, not only does Bob have no character sheet (evidence per se of his perfidious villainy) but he is also rumoured to weigh the same as a duck - and is therefore also a witch!terrymixon wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 10:06 pm Flighty is in 4, directly by the bridge. Part of that thing where he learns a little bit of everything. Donovan could take over piloting while someone else trains as a steward with Flighty providing insight. I vote for Sigrun because that would be a land rich in roleplaying opportunities for everyone. I mean, she's perfect for the role. Right?
Thoughts?

Sigrun as Steward might redefine the concept of customer service in that role...
Maybe "Assistant Steward" might be better if we actually want folk to not demand their money back.
She also fills a slot on the Flight crew roster so would notionally be on Bridge watch 1/3rd of the time.
If we do passengers I think it's a given that the crew double up

Zaki is standing with her right side to the cabin door, looking in the mirror attached to her fresher door. She is clad only in her workout shorts, and Sigrun can see the extent of her scarring. A spiderweb of angry red and white scars extends from her right shoulder to her right knee, and to her right elbow. Her torso, front and back also bears the same scarring almost to her centerline. She looks at Sigrun as she enters. "I'm sorry, you just surprised me."

What? No dueling for the best cuts of meat for dinner? No mandatory calisthenics? And the almost obligatory dating rules from the Sword Worlds classes, where missteps by drunken passengers get them bonus time in the medbay getting those pesky broken hands repaired.

The wound looks to be a potentially lethal traumatic penetration of the chest cavity through the mid/lower back which would have healed more neatly were the same area not subject to a vaccuum burn.
Sigrún speaks softly but with gentle purpose "As a warrior I pushed you too hard but I can put that duty off for a little time here in jump space and just come to you as girl from Isenfang... Sword World girls are stoic and strong... but soft... and share something with you... as a gift with no ties... so that one of us might learn that, despite their scars, they can love and be loved again".
She moves to stand behind Zaki and with a nervous smile leans to place a single kiss on the scar tissue covering her right shoulder. Then Sigrún catches her breath and Zaki feels the gentlest impact on her skin. Stunned, Sigrun wipes the track of the tear from her face but another starts from her other eye. She manages to choke “I loved him …” before she is overcome by an unstoppable tide of pent up grief. It takes all of her considerable willpower to make no sound as she silently weeps for the lost.

All the above and more would occur with Sigrun as Crew/Ship Security but as per my understanding of the Sword Worlds (who have the same sex based division of labour as Aslan) Passenger Care might fall into the support role and therefore be a female job incompatible with her current (male) role. We can, of course, burn that bridge when we come to it. If she can't manage "Maid" she could pull off "Chef" (as per Under Siege).terrymixon wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2024 12:02 am What?
