Back together on the cliff
Re: Back together on the cliff
Vik finishes lighting his torch and sets it down at the edge of the hissing campfire. He puts on his backpack and then his cloak, pulling the hood back over his head to keep the rain from his eyes. He then leans down and recovers the torch whilst Johansen offers options. The young churl shudders at the thought of backtracking towards the cliffs.
"Perhaps we can find a cluster of conifers, then?" he queries hopefully, trying not to appear too desperate!

Osric, not knowing much about wilderness living or survival doesn't feel like he has much to offer in the way of advice of what to do next. He will look toward Scythius to see what he has to say.
Re: Back together on the cliff
I will take this as a concensus to move north back towatd the travelers way road.
You have to move very slowly as you travel as to try and not get lost and having to feel your way in the darkness.
Johansen and Sergius keep their torches covered with the cloaksto keep them from being extiguished as you walk.
You had traveled to the cliffs using game trails so moving would be easier, but now Johansen leads you off the trails hoping to find somewhere to offer you more protection.
After a 1/2 hour of slow movement the line stops.
Look Just ahead of us, those are some of the largest trees I have seen around these parts, they should help protect us from the rain.

The party moves next to the giant tree and find that most of the rain stays off of them and the ground around the base is dry, protected by the giant branches and leaves that must be high above and out of sight.
You collect the dryest wood you can find and shivering build a fire. You all huddle around the warmth of the flame, wet, exhausted, and chilled to the bone you find it impossible to relax. Partly in fear of what may be in the darkness waiting, and partly for fear you may never wake up becuase of hypothermia.
You begin to think to yourselves that this adventuring is far more miserable than you imagined it would be.

Re: Back together on the cliff
going to roll for scy
[1d6] = 5
As you huddle round the fire scy suddenly stands up and begins lookign around.
something doesn't seem right
he looks up prompting the rest of the group to do the same just as a spider so big it seems to be something from a nightmare drops into the middle of the group.
roll init
1d6=3

This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.

Sergius will try to stick his spear on the beast
Re: Back together on the cliff
Realizing that, since it dropped in the middle of us, Tub put his fear of the monster aside. Once more lust of battle was on him; and he was still unscathed, and he was young, and he was fighting with his friends!
Both daggers slice forward!
[1d20] = 19 [1d4+1] = 4+1 = 5
And he makes an excellent first attack roll... after the darn thing attacks of course.
[1d20] = 6 [1d4+1] = 1+1 = 2
At -1 To Hit, I do believe that my off hand has missed.

Re: Back together on the cliff
When the party reaches the cover of the large tree, Viktor sacrifices his torch to help with getting their new fire started. He grits his teeth to keep them from chattering and tries to think of a warm, happy place.

When Scythius stands up and declares trouble, Vik grabs up his spear with a muttered curse and begins searching the darkness for danger. When the giant, nightmarish spider drops down amongst them, he cries out and tries to run it through. "Look out!"
To Hit: Spear [1d20] = 11, damage vs small/medium creatures [1d6+1] = 2+1 = 3
OOC: is the spider considered to be small/medium or large?

Scythius, detecting this hideous beast dropping down on the group, quickly plants the end of his long spear in the ground and turns the spearhead upwards, hoping to skewer the eight legged beast.wolfpack wrote:...just as a spider so big it seems to be something from a nightmare drops into the middle of the group.

Re: Back together on the cliff

The giant molted green arachnid descends quickly into your midst, scy attempts to set his spear and impale it but is to slow as it hits the ground. You notice immediatly on its back a glowing shape of the now all to familiar skull pattern.
The horrid creature lashes out at Osric poison dripping from its fangs. Osric quickly throws up his shield and the spider is rebounded. Its deadly venom splashing off of the metal shield.
The defense throws off Osrics strike howeevr as he misses with his hammer. Tub quickly rushes in burying his dagger into the things bloated abdomen causing it to jump back.
It's movement to quick for vik and serb to land a blow the crazed Johansen rushes in screaming swinging his two handed axe and lands a blow on the things back causing a squuel to issue forth as it rebounds backwwards. Cilian atempts to flatten the creature with his staff onl;y to have it rebound harmlessly off of the things leg.

Scythius, angered at his earlier tardiness, looks to redeem himself. Bringing his long spear around, he attempts to keep the spider at bay.... then skewer it when the opportunity presents itself.
