Apologies for the slow posting - family visiting and so forth
I do have a question though - Brondulm was trying to negotiate. What happened to that?

(2 things happened:
#1 After Brondulm's coin ploy, Myrrh rushed in to attack. Even a goblin isn't going to go "Gee, that 1 coin will keep me from getting stuck with the armored guy's sword."
#2 They were always going to be hostile. If I had rolled a Reaction Roll, it would have been at a huge penalty anyway.
But, really... #1)

Brondulm
While he takes a swing at the goblin engaging him with both his short sword:

Brondulm says in common: Hey fellas, why don't you save yourselves and put your weapons down? We are looking for a party of adventurers and information could save your life. He hopes one of the remaining goblins speaks common and might not want to be die at end of one of his companions' weapons because his sure don't seem to too dangerous.

Myrrh swings his attention and sword at the nearest goblin still up.

At least I am hitting I suppose.

Faron stands back from the fight, and keeps watch for other dangers.
Ellith would like to attack with his sling - how does firing into melee work in OSE?
Re: Chapter 1: All I Ever Hear About is A Marsh. A Marsh! A Marsh! A Marsh!
There is no set rule regarding firing missiles into melee, other than saying a target must be 5'+ away. Attacking a creature already in melee will provide it cover - potentially TOTAL COVER, thus making the other melee-er the actual target.Edeldhur wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 10:46 amUnderstoodTheMyth wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2024 8:29 pm(2 things happened:

In this instance, the goblins are smaller than everyone but Vali. Depending on Ellith's chosen target, he will most likely hit a friend than a foe.
Here's the real question: Why is your elf clad in PLATEMAIL so afraid to engage in melee with a goblin?
Re: Chapter 1: All I Ever Hear About is A Marsh. A Marsh! A Marsh! A Marsh!
Ellith
Not really sure why the assumption - I would actually say there are may other real questions in this particular instance, apart from why Ellith does not blindly charge against a bunch of goblins - maybe he does not like unnecessary violence? Maybe he is a pacifist? Maybe he prefers dialogue over violence? Maybe he just finds it rash the fact the group decided to charge without heeding the attempted negotiation of their companion? Maybe he finds it more relevant to gather info, before murdering the sources of said info? I could go on.
But in any case, he is not afraid to engage in melee with the goblins. In playing along and keeping the game momentum, I (the player) decided to try and explore other avenues/tactical options different from charging in (And I also think we are like 5 or 6 in melee at the moment, against a similar (now only three) amount of goblins? I doubt there is even space for all of us in melee). Hope that answers the question. Since chances are Ellith would probably hit an ally with his sling though, he does nothing then, and simply waits.

Okay, just waiting for Lia's action...

Re: Chapter 1: All I Ever Hear About is A Marsh. A Marsh! A Marsh! A Marsh!
No worries. Now and then, I will just post an "update" to let people know why I haven't resolved things.
ROUND #3 (concluded)
Goblin #5 falls dead from wounds inflicted by Myrrh and a resounding hammerblow from Lia!
Goblin #4 takes a serious wound from Brondulm, and Goblin #6 was stung by Vali's dagger. They look at one another and...
Morale check [2d6]=10
...and continue fighting!
Goblin #4 attacks Brondulm, who easily parries thecspear with Lefty! Spear [1d20]=14 Damage [1d6]=4
Goblin #6 pokes at Vali again, missingvthe little gnome in its panic! Spear [1d20]=7 Damage [1d6]=4
Vali stabs at Goblin #6, fatally impaling the creature with the flashing dagger.
Cinders moves to assist Brondulm, her sword cutting through the air and slashing across Goblin #4's back, droppingbit with a grievous wound. Scimitar [1d20+4]=13+4=17 Damage [1d6+1]=5+1=6
COMBAT ENDED
The group stands panting from battle. 6 goblin corpses rest at their feet.
The door you entered is on the west wall of northwestern corner of a room that extends 30' east and opens up to 20' south. Another door is on the southern wall of the southeastern corner.
At a glance, the room is mostly clear, with some debris and refuse in its center.

Re: Chapter 1: All I Ever Hear About is A Marsh. A Marsh! A Marsh! A Marsh!
The big goblin has nothing useful. His leather armor is now torn and bloody, his spear is usable but worthless, and he carries no coins or valuables.
Assuming the other goblins are searched, the same is found. In fact, the group had no food or water either. Perhaps a scouting party from a larger group? Or maybe just randos looking for shelter?
