Apologies if this has been asked before, but are we going to be using weapons speed factors and adjustments vs AC?

This will influence my choice of weapons :-)

Most likely, yes.

As for a more general update, the last week or two has pretty much sucked... which means, I've made very little progress on getting this game ready.

Any progress I can claim to have made will result from my quickly abandoning all the "customized" rules I was looking to implement. I'm almost to the point where I'm ready to just open up character creation per normal, allow you guys to just build however you'd like, and simply review any characters as they're submitted.

The big thing still standing in the way of getting this one started is really prepping Hommlet. That, considering I'm now focusing on this being T1 (not T1-T4), at least to start, is kind of important. :D

I have just posted the 'Starting Possessions' rule which should allow you to move forward with your character creation.

Safe to assume we get a set of basic clothing for free?

Correct. Two sets, even, if you want to carry the second set (I will, at least loosely, be tracking encumbrance).

Still working through all the different private forums (some I haven't checked in an embarrassingly long time -- apologies), and two quick notes:
  1. Infravision
This ability may be limited (or removed) from non-human PC races (as they are assumed to be acclimated to the surface). I'm still on the fence about this, so it may still work, but it will not be an absolute "I can see freely in the dark" ability and will be more limiting.
    .
  2. Wisdom: Bonus spells
Yes, the druid sub-class will receive these bonus spells.

I wasn't initially sure when asked about this (and was actually leaning the other direction), until reading this:

Oh, pish! What's that guy know about Dungeons & Dragons, anyway?
On November 2nd I will be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. I'm raising money for Marshfield Children's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and all money I raise will go to that hospital. All donations are tax-deductible. Please take a moment to check out my donation page below. Thank you.

I have that thread marked and go back to it sometimes. There are some interesting replies in it.

Any guidance on the cost of arrows? The cross reference of a quiver holding 20, a dozen costing 1 gold, and a single arrow costing 2 silvers doesn't quite compute for me. I know the economy isn't D&D's strong suit, but just thought I'd check before I spend 2 gold and throw four arrows away...

I did 34sp for 20 arrows. We actually go with 33sp in our games, but I figured I would be safer with 34sp.

Math is 20sp/12 arrows = 1 2/3 sp per arrow x 20 arrows = 33sp & 3.3cp.

I should have asked but just used to doing it that way and didn't even think of it.

Since my free weapon was a bow can I make a plea for the quiver and arrows being included?

Ahhh yes I'm reading further and realizing the conversion rate is 20 sp to 1 gp in 1E. Derp. It's making more sense now...

How is encumbrance meant to work? I'm assuming the "#" symbols in the Encumbrance section refer to pounds, and that the coinweights given for weapons should be 10 coins to a pound. I don't see coinweights for armour or shield, so I'm stealing those from Basic (equating scale to chain) until someone sets me straight... Do we also normally add 80 coins for miscellaneous equipment? Sorry if I'm missing something key or obvious here!

It's on p27 of the DMG. If you let us know what armour you're interested in we can provide the weight.

Yup and the appendixes in the DMG. Same for much of the equipment. I am part way through spending my money, then I will work on encumbrance. Coming together nicely. Have some good ideas for background just not written up yet.

I must admit I usually have no problems putting together a background, but this one is currently avoiding me beyond some basics. I'll get there.
