Vann Hector
nice, I like the pictures and map.
The elf will go check out the block and tackle, particularly if the new webs indicate a spider is present but lurking unseen. My gut instinct might tell me that it hides maybe on the ceiling of the chamber below the tackle and will spring to attack any potential victim descending.
I will cautiously check stuff out and loose a shaft from my hand held crossbow at any creature scurrying about in the lower chamber or any spider that suddenly reveals itself.

Sven also remains very alert for any spiders or similar creatures about before addressing the group.
"Okay folks......I give you......The BARROWMAZE!" He points down into the hole dramatically.
"As we discussed earlier, Vann's group can check the rooms to the south, while our team continues to explore the doors to the north of the long hall."
"Remember, none of you actually has to do anything I say. You are all obviously free to do whatever you like down below. I have no more power over these missions than I do over you yourselves. However, as Guild leader, I will suggest all of us remember that working together, despite our separate groups, will end much better for us than a few of us simply slipping away to do their own thing."
Before they start heading below to listen at the first door to the north, Sven investigates how securely the poles of the block and tackle tripod are secured to the floor.
"Do any of you with masonry skills think this thing could be removed easily?"

Moorheeth
Moorheeth takes up his position just behind Sir Dewey and the front line folks, so he can offer healing and also smash things when necessary. He will have his quarter staff and throwing hammer ready.

Sir Dewey
The Knight looks appraisingly at the situation. "Ah. So you found it like this? From below? It would be interesting to note any activity since you've last been here. Tracks, refuse, anything." He notes the tincup. "Were there coins left in there?"
"The webs are new? We should burn them. Then I can go down first and secure the landing." He eyes the block and tackle. "Maybe we don't burn the webs, no need to damage the rope."
Sir Dewey starts clearing away some webs around the contraption with his weapon.

Re: Barrowmaze: BRAGging Rites
Gerdal walks up and checks the block and tackle for stability, patting it with her open hand.
"Did you build this just to be able to enter?"
She looks around curiously.
"And which direction is our last entry? Did you already find a connection between that part and this? I know you Sven and several others have theorized that the maze stretches for eternity underground and is really one connected whole. Like blood vessels!" She raises her eyebrows.
"Anyway, since you've already been here, please direct me to where we're going and I hope I can be of some assistance. One thing I learned from our last visit was that we should always keep an escape route clear!"

Re: Barrowmaze: BRAGging Rites
Exploring the Long Corridor.
Cautious to lurking spiders, Vann Hector advances to check out the hole in the crypt floor, moving aside freshly spun silken threads. Alert to the danger it is no surprise when his ruse lures the spider from the ceiling of the chamber below and as it lunges to grab an elf takeaway, the rogue bullseye snipes it squarely in the head. -13hp.
The critical hit is enough to send the creature into death throe spasms and after a few jerks, it falls lifeless to the floor of the chamber, some thirty-five feet below.
Despite more pulling and tugging on web threads, no more spiders present themselves and those webs still covering the upper barrow can easily be burned aside by some torch fire. The torch can be tossed below into the carcass to light the lower chamber and Room #1 of the Barrowmaze.
The block and tackle is a sturdy bit of kit. It is secured to the flagstones by hammered iron spikes and though a little squeaky from needing fresh oil on the pulley, is considered a safe construction. The hemp rope that dangles below has been looped with a few foot and hand holds and you could estimate that it could take the weight of a large humanoid without difficulty.
Plans have already been discussed, people appointed to BRAGging or Where-Rat teams. You shake hands, swig on a passed around bottle of wine and then separate into the two groups.
Where-Rats Vann, Sir Dewey, Moorheeth & Sigrid along with NPC's Sundance, Bucko, Martell and Treyvor, each descend and once you gain your bearings, advance down the 'Long Corridor'. Passing a couple of dark and thoroughly uninviting passages, you get to the Rat Room. Hearing nothing beyond, not even a squeak, you can barge the door inwards.
actions I will cut & paste this update in the Where-Rats Expedition thread. Please post your character action in there.
BRAGging Rites Sven & Smokie, Gerdal & Harkazz, Orgoth, Isvand accompanied by NPC's Amos, Gnimish and Yardie.
You wait in anticipation of battle cries and calls for help but after a few turns you hear nothing and confident that you can also safely descend, each does so and you assemble in the chamber below.
next actions please.

Re: Barrowmaze: BRAGging Rites
Despite the horrible odor, Sven takes in all the sights and smells of the dungeon, strangely glad to be back inside. He looks around on the floor in the first hallway to check for possible recent activity. “You smell anything weird….well…..different, Smokie?”
“Okay gang, let’s get busy. I think we should listen at this first door to the left and then check it for traps.”

"Nice job Vann Hector!"
Once down.
Orgoth moves to cover those checking the door and nods for them he is ready.

Re: Barrowmaze: BRAGging Rites
Isvand will move forward and do the trifecta of looking for traps, listening for noise, and attempting to unlock the door on the left. If there's a lock and Isvand isn't zotted! He'll report that the door seems stuck!

Re: Barrowmaze: BRAGging Rites
Actually SM, this is the "Rope" room we start in? The "room #1"? Does it have any distinguishable features, for us that have not been here before?
Gerdal
Stays in the rear of the group, letting the ones that was here already lead the way.
"So, are we looking for anything in specific? I mean apart from riches and fame? Is there any riddle that has to be solved? Locked doors that need their keys found? If you want I can look into my leaves and see what the future holds for us behind that door?"

Exploring the Long Corridor.
The chamber below the crypt, noted as 'rope' room or room #1, has not been noticeably changed since your last delve. Spider webs hanging from the ceiling the only addition. The plasterwork walls having frescoes of faded murals and much graffiti. Various adventuring groups before you have left their mark from dire warnings to boasting their amorous conquests. The western wall has suffered much and is unstable, the stone loose and many burrows of rodents are clawed out of the surface.
You descend after the other group, giving them time to move on from the area. Taking each door in succession, you check on the first door in your left. The door is locked and has withstood all attempts by Isvand and Noble (the 'assassin halfling from Knievel's group) to unlock it.
While Yardie and Gnimish guard the entrance, Amos has a crack at the door himself. Alas the door scores 3-0, beating a further attempt to unlock it. You could try and batter away through, though it is of sturdy and iron banded, reinforced construction.
You have hammers and enough muscle between you to get the job done though it will undoubtedly be a noisy affair and certainly nullifies any surprise on creatures in the crypt or passage behind.
Looking up the Long Corridor, a smell of death and decay wafts your way. Unsurprisingly since a number of bodies had been previously dumped into the charnel room and at least a dozen Ravenous zombies were held in the cell to the north.
Smokie cannot detect anything unusual and presently, only the sound of your group is heard.

Re: Barrowmaze: BRAGging Rites
Sven cracks his knuckles and looks up at Orgoth with one eyebrow raised.
"Yes Gerdal. Our main objective is to search some areas we discovered last time, but were too beat up to fully investigate."
"And I think I have the perfect place for you to do your interruptive scrying. It's right up around this next corner, just past Deuce's old buddies. You'll love em."
The mage attempts using magic upon the difficult to crack door before resorting to brute force.
Casting: Knock on door
2nd Level Spell Retention (INT 15) [4d6+2]=12+2=14

Re: Barrowmaze: BRAGging Rites
Gerdal watches patiently as the other do their best to force the door open.
"Deucalion? This was the man that was brought back from undeath? You found him here? I'm still curious of how you managed to do that actually. I did not believe the process to be reversible. If it is, perhaps it is possible to concoct some substance that will do the trick. Actually, I believe that the right mix of grave moss and...oh"
She stops mid sentence as Sven, Lord of Fire and Arcane Trickster, unlocks the door. As Orgoth swings it open, Gerdal takes a few steps back as to avoid any explosive runes that are about to be stepped upon.
