Re: Into the Mines
Raz snaps out of his side thoughts and nods his head "Yes, yes you have a good point. We can return the casket and body to the town it that is even where it came from. But we should get back to Jarth and the mines provided we can even get into them, did not the giants collapse a lot of the area?"

"You're right. They can also provide us with information about the symbol. I somehow assumed the child doesn't belong to the town and believed it like it was reality."

Re: Into the Mines
Vesper agrees with Mag: "We should return the child to the town and if they have no knowledge of how the giant came to have it, we should then provide a proper burial."
Re: Into the Mines
Kol
Kol is rather astounded that a Giant would carry around a casket of a dead person but says nothing, listening to everyone.
She chalks it up to Giants being evil and having disgusting habits from her point of view.
"So we go where now?"

Re: Into the Mines
The carvings on the underside of the coffin confirm what Starkad expected: this child is of the Uthgardt barbarians, specifically the Elk Tribe. The tribe calls the lands around the Evermoors home and their ancestral mound is Flint Rock. Lavender and holly are traditional herbs for the journey of the dead to the tribal lands beyond this material plane.Karaunios wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 5:47 am Starkad

He tries to ascertain if he recognizes the deer and lightning symbol from somewhere and if the necklace is indeed made of deer fur and antler.

Re: Into the Mines
Raz "Hmm, how would we return the body in the coffin back to the tribe? Wow those giants traveled a distance didn't they?" the gnome says thinking that the Evermoors is a long ways away but not truly knowing where that is. "Never mind that though we should get back to Jarth and the mines. We can figure out that problem after I suppose."

Starkad nods."That's exactly how I see it too, Raz."
Funny. This morning I was thinking about the Uthgard tribes.

So that's something we need to take into account."

Re: Into the Mines
Raz "Alright well we've spent enough time here we should grab what we're taking and head on back to the mines and Jarth." the gnome helps with what he can and starts moving back to Jarth's mines.

Re: Into the Mines
Returning to the mines doesn't take very long, but you wish you had better news to deliver to Jarth...who sees you coming from afar and walks out to meet you. Not seeing any of his missing men with you, he just shakes his head. "Did ye get 'em? Found a pretty box, did ye? Well, me men are cleaning up the debris and we found a couple of me miners scared shitless and hiding in a mangled mining car. How the giant didn't see 'em is beyond me!"
Jarth stares off into the hills for a few seconds and then asks, "So, are ye ready to go into the mines and see what's what?"
He takes off walking, not waiting for an answer, assuming that is what you are planning to do. "There be two ways in. Ye can walk the track or ye can wade in through the creek over here. The water be fresh and potable coming from sommat deep underground. Just be careful. Me and me men will be out here if ya need us. Well, at least until dark which is about six or so hours off. Tymora's blessing upon ye all."

Re: Into the Mines
Raz replies to Jarth when able to "Sorry Jarth. We found some disturbing things but unfortunately no survivors the giants were a cruel pair." as he is moving to catch up with Jarth "Gond's blessings to you Jarth. I'm sorry for your loss and I hope knowing we killed the two giants that did this brings a small amount of peace to you and the surviving crew." the gnome looks at the options and thinks not going through the water is the better option, and so starts walking the track, he stops when he gets too far ahead of the others.

"I would agree that we take the track path.
Perhaps and order of
Two fighters up front including the tracker (Kol + Moan)
The second rank (Mag + Vesper)
Rear Guard (Raz + Starkad)
and if single file is required
Moan (for tracking)
Kol
Mag
Vesper
Raz
Starkad"
Hoping I did not forget anyone

Re: Into the Mines
Raz nods his head "Yes, yes very well we have our marching order lets not dally any long folks." the gnome trying to add the tone to his voice to show that this task is still very important.

Re: Into the Mines
Year of Shadows 1358 Dale Reckoning (DR)
9th of Ches (March), Midday, Cold and Cloudy...Fresh Snow
Jarth regards Raz for a few seconds, then says, "Ye seem a respectable fellow, Master Gnome. I would welcome ye to me table when ye return."
Mag establishes a marching order, then Kol and Moan lead the way in via the tracks, Cu taking point just a few feet ahead of the ranger. The track runs for several feet with oil burning lanterns every 20-30 feet. The ceiling is about 8' high and the track is wide enough for two people to walk abreast.
The group walks in about 40 feet and there is a chamber off to their right. An lantern burns low there, revealing what looks like a closed door and a table with some mining implements on it. Further in is blanketed in darkness...
