Re: Chapter 05: Round the bend
This area seems less affected by whatever physical force that wrecked parts of the 'eastern' waterway witnessed earlier. Here, the stone paving is mostly intact, no rubble lies scattered and the nearest tower seems unscathed. Its stairway appears to be marked with a painted (?) crude line leading upwards in the middle like the painted line dividing a road in our modern world.

Korin shrugs "Yeah, I guess. Dunno that I ever seen nobody spill paint fer that long in such a patter as that afore though." he comments.

Thorelf
"Strange. I have no idea what this could mean. Some religious meaning, perhaps? Or spellcraft? Then again, it might just be a divider, maybe the one side is unstable. Anyway, let's check this tower out."
Thorelf will follow the stairway up, staying clear of the painted line itself, walking on the "inside" of the stair - the side closest to the tower itself. He will move slow enough to have time to check for traps or anything out of the ordinary.

Re: Chapter 05: Round the bend
Korin follows along as well making sure to stop and check for traps every so often. (I'd say about every 30 feet after the main entrance to the tower.)

Re: Chapter 05: Round the bend
Scanning the path for traps, the gang proceeds safely to the first tower, where
Thorelf
scales the staircase, carefully keeping to one side. The smudgy black line looks like it's tar, or soot. It leads to the top ledge of the tower and culminates in a crude, sketchy symbol painted on the inner turret top wall: a flame, with crude skulls and bones encircling it - quite similar to the image carved into the portal along the earlier waterfront area.

Thorelf
"Doesn't seem like there's much to this tower, or what do you think? I mean, the flame is obviously some sort of symbol, but probably just the cult paying tribute to their deity or something."
Is the tower hollow? Or is it just the top of the tower and that's it? If there's no more floors to check in this tower, Thorelf will walk down again and continue along the dock. In that case, is there a door set in the wall opposite of the water, like the flaming door on the other dock? Or just mountanside?

Re: Chapter 05: Round the bend
The tower is a half circle, open on the 'south' side which is where the staircase leads up to the the wall ledge looking out over the bay - constructed much like the ones on the other 'eastern' side you came from.
You do not find much more of interest in this tower. In the torchlight you see the next similar tower along the waterfront. On this side, you see no portal set in the 'southern' wall like back there - only plain rock face. The quayside continues 'westwards' but your torch light only reaches to the next tower.

Re: Chapter 05: Round the bend
Thorelf thinks for a moment.
"Nah. I guess not. Let's find out where this place ends, it seems to go on forever."
If no one objects, he leads the gang further westward towards the next tower.
