Sir Dewey
The Knight decides to enter the scarecrow contest. He's starting to enjoy his time in Helix and suspects that letting the townies see a noble knight of St. Ygg partake in such frivolity may help soften their hearts to St. Ygg.
He gathers a coat, a wide-brimmed hat, some straw, and a burlap sack. The sack just barely fits over his helm.
Years of prayer and stillness serve him well as the crows flock to him.
[2d6+17]=9+17=26 Borrowing the coat from the butcher didn't hurt either.
It has likewise been years since he last used a sling, not since back home as a kid. He gives it a whirl.
Stones: [1d20-2]=17-2=15[1d20-2]=11-2=9[1d20-2]=20-2=18[1d20-2]=10-2=8[1d20-2]=8-2=6

Six don't go where intended.
"Whoops! Sorry!"

Sven has almost no luck calling crows to him...
Counting Crows [2d6+9]=3+9=12
And only hits 2 lousy crows with his clearly broken slingshot.
Crushing Crows (15+ to hit) [_10d20]=(14+5+11+13+6+20+11+9+7+20)
At least the mage knows that if he pads his costume enough, he shouldn't even feel the stones when they hit him.

Greased Piggy
The festival hog roast curly tails rather than high tails it out of the village main street, swerving under market barrows and crosses the stream. On his trotters are a few dozen adventurers and villages firming the chasing pack. First to the grapple is
Isvand who tackles the porker with a lunge but the lean mean pink machine wriggles free and "oinks" to run through the courtyard of the Foul Pheasant.
At this point
Rogan runs out of puff,
Horace crashes out and half the mercenaries retire to the inn for horizontal refreshments.
Eldon aided by
Sarge who sniffs out the creature from his hidey hole begin the next phase, grasping trotters. The piggy squeals cutting across
Mazzah's uncultivated plot, whereupon the mage temporarily adds to the fun by mirror imaging the creature to the hunters frustration. The piggy escapes into the Outwoods and around the back alleys to the windmill.
Sven, gets the next grapple and rolls the future sausage up. The chasers thinned out and
(after resolving village contenders) there are two potential leaders of the pack as all others failed rolls at some point.
Eldon and
Sven both achieved the skill checks. There is a final wrestle-off as the piggy hopes to be last porker standing.
I will roll vs your respective Dex stats. You get a point scored for each point of successful roll and two negative points for each point of failure. Highest scorer after three rounds wins the hog.
Eldon vs Dex 16 [3d6]=4 [4d6]=18 [5d6]=17 Sven vs Dex 15 [3d6]=8 [4d6]=13 [5d6]=15
After a super start,
Eldon gains an advantage but successive harder check failures cut into his first impressive neckhold on the piggy.
6 points vs
Sven, probably greased up in 'Oinkment' himself never misses a check and the lowly mage, out runs and out wrestles the village and the pig to lift the trophy animal off the ground. 9 points.
A cheer goes up.
Sven wins the greased pig.
You may do with the piggy as you wish.
I will award the contestants all XP for entering, passing rolls and finally winning at the festival close.

Mud Wrestling
Getting down and dirty in the stables
The village festivities hot up with the afternoon traditional beef-up as the macho and muscle bound strut their stuff and show off their close up and personal combat techniques.
Stripped to loin cloths and barefoot, contestants vie against each other in a random draw in a no holds bar grappling contest.
Each entrants gains XP, bonus XP for progression and a large leather belt adorned with lucky horseshoes to the champion. (Each horseshoe may be cast aside to gain advantage on a skill check, saving throw or attack roll).
Currently I have three players: Orgoth, Isvand and the soon to be deceased Steban (!) Sign up. We are using an amended Grapple rules from the DMG. I will add village entrants to make the numbers up, do a random draw then get folk rolling their grapples.
Some village entrants:
'Grievous Bodily Harm' from the Mercenary Guild.
Brother Gamdar 'the Undertaker', from the chapel of St Ygg.
'Rooster'Rogan, defending champion from the Foul Pheasant. The 'Cock of the North'
Bollo, 'Iron brew' from the Brazen Strumpet.
'Edbaldwin 'the new Bear' representing the Manse.

Sir Dewey
The Knight stands back and laughs with the villagers as the townies and adventurers alike run around chasing the pig. He starts a round of applause at the actions of Mazzah, expressing his gratitude for the extension of the event. As the field dwindles, he notices some town members placing bets on the outcome and sighs inwardly. The previously brightly hair-colored teenager takes the prize much to the chagrin of many bettors.
"Good show, young man. Youth, it seems, is key in pig wrangling."

Vann Hector 'prison break', (his play on words regarding the expedition hijack), the lithe elf limbers up in mud. He adds to his moniker by appearing in the shackles and cuffs and warpaints his face with dark under eye stripes. Compared to the muscle bound physiques of the half orcs he is underwhelming, he hopes techniques rather than brute strength might carry him a round or two.

Cadeweed
Cadeweed the halfling searches out Sven and says "Sven sir, I hear that you are putting together an all-wizard tug of war team. That sounds like the perfect team for me to be the anchor of. What do you say?"

Sven hoists his prize pig high, almost falling over backwards in the process. He lets the animal root around with the goats at the wizards tower until he can figure out what he will do with it. He address his admirers in the cheering crowd. "I knew cleaning out the pig sty every week back home would eventually pay off for me!" He continues to make merry with all of the festival goers, drinking up his donated ale, determined to make their little celebration an event to remember.
When Cadeweed approaches, Sven smiles ear to ear, measuring up the halfling for size. "HA! What a genius idea. How could I say anything but yes!" He seesk out his crew of budding mages to introduce their new anchor.
"This is Gerdal, and no, she's not my mom. This is Cadeweed. All we need to do is find a couple more willing magic using participants and we can register our team!"

Gerdal raises her eyebrow at the mum remark.
"Very well. Pleased to make your aquaintance Cadweed. Remains to be seen if we manage to gather an entire team. Maybe, if the judges will allow it, Smokie can pull as well? Theoretically, he should pass as a mage. I mean, considering his past life, and all that? Cookie?"
She offers Cadweed a small treat from her selection.
"Cadweed dear, you look cold. You should dress properly."

Cadeweed
"I don't mind if I do Gerdal and you can call me Cade." as Cadeweed takes a cookie and hangs with the wizards. "I just came from doing some giant spider spooling, what have you great thinkers been up to? There has to be more out there than that!"

If the DM prefers we not roleplay in this thread, just say the word.
Sven reaches for one of Gerdal's famous cookies as well, looking the halfling over casually.
"Giant spider spooling, eh? I don't know what that is, but it sounds pretty dangerous. We have been out exploring the moors, with varying degrees of success. I would like to hear more about what you and the others have been up to though. I think it is a benefit to all of us to learn from each others explorations. Heck, I might even have interest in starting up a club or guild for we practitioners of the arcane arts some day."

Gerdal listens to her colleagues with great interest.
the timelines screw my mind here, if Steban is alive at this point in time, Gerdal was not even on her first trek yet and strictly speaking Sven does not even know she's a spellcaster
Anyway, I will mix it up a bit here for the sake of roleplaying....
"Yes, the barrows. Great risk, great reward that. Interesting though, to say the least. Cade, have you run into any cults while on spider trek? There seem to be at least a few active ones!"

I suppose expedition planning and info gathering should take place in the other forums or if it was just note keeping you could use the Player to Player ooc thread.
Yes, the festival is retrospective as it is May 1st. 'call it pre expedition team bonding'.
