Felgorian still feels uneasy as he progresses. Something attacked that villager, leaving those claw marks. Guys. Do you think that fountain attacked the villager? Maybe he is just sleeping. We already fought one statue, maybe this is another?

Beya studied the Statue and certainly thought that the claws on it could DEFINITELY have caused the wounds to the poor villager.

"I think that is CERTAINLY a possibility Felgorian. I say we approach it VERY carefully;" Beya replied while moving into the room and taking a long side step so that she was even with and a couple of yards from the Elf; all while flipping a dagger nervously in her hand.

"Less talking and more movin'" says the halfling barbarian, "We already defeated a living statue, we can surely do it again."

Felgorian looks perplexed. Why would one talk about not talking? Perhaps you want to just scoop up some water and we be on our way?

Nothing moves in the room, as the party discusses its future plan.

(Just letting you know THe DM is still here, and waiting for any action by the players)

Felgorian grabs a water vial and tightens the grasp on his sword. He moves to the fountain to scoop up some water, all the while vigilant of a creature or likewise. He calls out as he moves,

Can someone check for traps along this fountain? Does something trigger this thing to animate?

The Thief steps forward, checking for traps, the party sweating bullets as he searches, weapons at the ready. He checks all the way up the fountain, nothing, checks the first stair, nothing.

Then he takes a step inside the fountain.

The statue moves, wings flap up and the Gargoyle type statue attacks!!

Roll a D10 for initiative. and attack rolls and damage rolls.

Checked the house rules, and i never changed it to D10 in the house rules, so use a D6 (I normally play with a D10 initative OTB)

Coenbeorht screams: "HEADS UP!!!" and immediately tosses an axe at the gargoyle-thing.

Initiative: [1d6] = 3

To hit with thrown hand axe: [1d20] = 15, damage: [1d6+3] = 1+3 = 4

Note: Thac0 to hit with thrown axe is 17.

Beya likewise quickly hurls her dagger at the animated horror....

Initiative +2 (DEX 18): [1d6+2] = 5+2 = 7

Attack roll +3 for DEX 18:[1d20+3] = 3+3 = 6

Sigh...clearly I have done something to offend the Dice Roller Gods....

ooc---I can't tell who possesses the possibly magical 2 handed ax. I think Coenbeorht. Felgorian definitely pocketed the amulet. Now, I ask... what the heck is an amulet and what would one normally attempt to use it for. I assume it is a pendant of potentially magical power. Would he wave it, threaten to destroy it, simply wear it, what?

ooc: Definitively not Coenbeorht. He can't even use a two-handed battleaxe.

I know, but he was the one who attempted to pick it up. I dont see a clarifying post after that... What do we have as a party:
Felgorian the elf
Coernbeorht the halfling
Beya the magicuser
Husker an npc'd thief...
Is Sjorvuld the fighter npcd or vanished?
michael alenson the cleric, npcd or vanished?

So, Felgorian would have to have the ax, unless Sjorvuld is still around, correct?

I will make the call that you can have it Felgorian, unless you want Sjorvuld to swing it.

If Sjorvuld is with us, then he should have it. Felgorian has the amulet. That said, I dont know how npcs work in battle. Do the players give guidance/strategy, or does the DM completely control them?

What the hey...

Initiative: [1d6] = 5

Felgorian realizes he let himself walk into this predictiment. He has one shot to do this right, he thinks. He grabs the amulet hanging from his neck, and flashes it toward the attacking monster.
He utters a command, that even he is unsure of its potency...Turn back, and leave us alone!!!

At that. He simply thinks of his dear mother crying at the news of his death.

I will control the NPCs unless they are given orders, then they will follow the orders unless its something stupid and out of normal actions.

And I will wait another day for the other players to roll initiative if that is the choice, i will give the two handed ax to the fighter, who prob best to use it.

(OOC: DH; unless I'm missing somebody; we've all rolled initiative and declared actions; Beya's on a 7 and hurling a dagger; Coenbeorht is on a 3 and hurling an Axe; and Felgorian is on a 5 and attempting to use the amulet to tell the statue to leave us alone.....everybody else is NPC'd, I think....????)

Back from my Job interview travels.

the battle begins.

The axes and blows for the most part do no harm, The Gargoyle beast rips into the poor thief, and you see him fall, no longer moving.

Sjorvuld Ax bites deep into the beast, it screams and flairs back, appearing to be angry.

your torch keeper says "shouldn't we use that amulet somehow? "

Round 2

You get the sense that normal weapons are not effective vs. the beast.
