Chapter Five - Tuesday: After the meeting

When you mention to Assana that you are heading back to your room, there is a very excited young child at the other end of the phone. It seems she can keep up sassy, streetwise teenager for only so long in a day.

You are greeted by a dash for freedom (intercepted) and a definite attempt to trip (stepped over) within the first few minutes of arriving at your room, and you hardly get a moment to settle before there is a banging on the door. It seems the two girls are here already.

Nālani ought to be annoyed by the antics but finds them charming. In fond tones she addresses Hoshiko: Chīsana jaaku, if you run away or kill me how will you meet your new admirers?

When the knocking starts Nālani has checked Hoshiko's food-dispenser, programmed her own, kicked off her shoes and started to change. She hastily zips her jumpsuit up again, scoops up Hoshiko and opens the door.

The Crew quarters are feeling like a proper ship. The passenger quarters still need a thorough spring/steam-clean. Now there is space in the hanger, Reven's air-car should fit, should he want to garage it. The Crew Area only has food heating facilities - No real food, just chuck a ready-meal in a micro-wave cooker. Still that's better than yesterday. And hot and cold running water helps too.

You get a chance to look at the ships entertainments - no refresh since 290! All the recently released holos are missing. But there are some classics so that's not too bad.

Sitting in the crew lounge, you get to mulling over the current situation. Just what was Mr Saffa's link to the ship other than dying here? Who was that dead woman in the crew cabin? And how did the ship not get visited by port security for at least two years? Thinking of which you start to tot up the total damages the lack of security has caused.

You are surprised by the ship saying that there is a person in the dock. It looks like a young port security guard! He walks over to a terminal by the airlock, taps in and moves off.

And that was the highlight of the evening.

Indrani starts on the passenger quarters by gathering up everything they can no longer use, such as ruined linens and other trash, and hauling it all out to the waste receptacles in the bay. Then, she starts cleaning the passenger lounge, beginning with the galley. "Hun, does the floor cleaning robot still run?"

I'm sorry, but there is no robot on the inventory. Crewmember Stilphath has logged the cleaning equipment as "Missing". XO has obtained some supplies with the Crew-Deck refurbishment but has been relying on manual cleaning tools. Shall I add "Cleaning Equipment" to the urgent items list?

"Yes, please do that. Now that I think of it, what other 'bots did you have aboard before you were damaged?" Indrani cleans the galley while she talks with Queen.

There is some debate as to which bar should be chosen. Navy of Merchant. Local or Visitor. Up-market of Down. Whichever is chosen, some form of transport would be useful as the dock corridor is at least 1500m long before there is any chance of passing traffic. Docks 13-01 to 13-16 are definitely at the quiet end of the port.

"So it will be the 'Spacemans Promise', I'll order a buggy at 750pm for everyone at the Queen at that time. We are there to enjoy ourselves, and not a word about whats going on inside the skin, you never know who is asking."

Heading to the "Spaceman's Promise"

The corridor outside the Ship is now completely quiet, even the pair of gangsters that had been lounging about appear to have vanished. A Cab arrives and delivers you to the Promise, where you get a table, and are introduced to Imelda, your waitress for the evening. She informs you that today's performers are from Johnson's Rock, and they will be starting in about 30 minutes.

"Reven, Thank you for your work today, I wish I could have helped more, but watching the crew on the skin and the police picking up the buggy cut into it. Apologies. Anyway. Next call is at the bar, and again at 8am for more work. Wish you could join us Captain, next time I owe you. Alright?
Indrani smiles. "Thank you. I will be fine here. I will look through the passenger quarters and see what we might need there. Besides, someone has to try out the commissary units."

Reven Stillpahth wakes from his nap in his quarters. He blinks at the ceiling, then gets u and goes to the Captain's quarters. He taps her door chime. "Captain? It's Reven. I was just wondering if it's possible to review the Queens movement patterns. That may give some insight into the goings on."

Heading to the "Spaceman's Promise"
A Cab arrives and delivers you to the Promise, where you get a table, and are introduced to Imelda, your waitress for the evening. She informs you that today's performers are from Johnson's Rock, and they will be starting in about 30 minutes.

I quietly hand Imelda a 10 credit note and a 50 credit note. "This is for you, and let me know when the 50 runs out for the table. If you don't have Apo or Laopani, Ill take a half bottle of the cloudy saki."

Chloe takes this as a hint to leave, but Assana stops, turns and asks

"Is something serious going on? Mum seem worried about Jinga, and Jinga didn't show to take me to the dentist at lunch time. Is this ship causing trouble? Because there have been guns and bodies and now Jinga's acting odd and that's worrying Mum. Are you in trouble too?"

Nālani is confident on her own account:

I think perhaps there are serious things going on, but I am not sure what. There had been crimes committed on the Queen, but that is in the past. I am sure none of us are implicated or even suspected of involvement.

She is concerned about Assana's family though:

What is Jinga doing that your mother finds disturbing? You said this morning that Jinga was going to meet the police. Is that odd, or do you think he was doing something else instead?

If you would like I can ask around about him, but the simplest way to find out what he is doing is to access his comm. It would tell you who he is talking to, if you knew his passcode.

If you would like I can ask around about him, but the simplest way to find out what he is doing is to access his comm. It would tell you who he is talking to, if you knew his passcode.

The pair leave - just you and Hoshiko and a holographic mouse.

Nālani praises Hoshiko for her gracious acceptance of the girls, and rewards her with a treat.

Then she turns into a whirlwind of activity, preparing for a night out - shower, change of clothes, make-up, then hair and nails in the auto-devices.

Calling Pranit she asks where the crew are drinking, then orders a cab to get there.

Nalani manages to arrive in time for the Food and start of the evening's Performance

The Bar is lively and the performers tuneful and witty by turns. The presence of a uniformed officer from the Belter Navy, and senior crew from at least 3 other merchant vessels (plus some locals) makes a culturally diverse crowd. The ships uniforms suggest two Union Lines ships and a Free Trader called the Ominira.

Having had the beer and local 'desserts' yesterday he settles for an evening of team bonding over some local brews and tabletop chat.

"Remember we left the Queen's business at the bay. Don't want to bring it into downtime."

He turns off his phone and withdrawing a couple of drumsticks from a jacket pocket, beats along a rythym on empty and party empty glass bottles on time with the music.

Nālani arrives. Her hair is now in reds and oranges with two ear-like knots and she is wearing a traditional-Japanese inspired dress with trailing-sleeved floral print top and a red skirt. Her nails are mostly red with black details, but her left ring-finger is white with a small fox on it.

Looking around she spots the familiar faces and joins the table.

Ah! I am not too late, after all. I had visitors, or rather Hoshiko did.

Now, what is the first topic to be? Favourite places that are not here? People we never want to see again?

"Good point, I will do my best to avoid that, but that aside, I curious what a single Officer is here, usually that are with families or we are told to buddy up. Can anyone see his rank?"
