I am heading into the woods for the next week+, should be back posting regularly late December 8th or on the 9th. I might check in on a re-supply day but no guarantee. Please NPC my character(s) in the mean time.

Have a great week everyone!

Have fun in the sticks. Deer hunting?

Thanks! Yes deer hunting and camping in the northern Adirondacks. We got about 8" of new snow. Would have been perfect except we had crazy high winds for most of the week.

Nimitz in the "Strange Pursuit" thread might be World War II Admiral Chester Nimitz's ancestor. Nimitz was from Fredericksburg, and there's a Nimitz museum there now. During the war with sugar and other shortage items (maybe coffee also?) were rationed, a plane would fly over the town and quietly drop parachutes with crates of rationed stuff....

Not in my most recent hunt, but a spike horn in early muzzleloader.

I was wondering about about your inspiration for that name and Fredricksburg.

That's funny about the sugar/coffee bomber.

William will claim one of the Colt SAAs as his backup gun.

DT will ask for the Henry Rifle and all its compatible ammo (how many rounds is that? In return he’d offer his Lever Action Carbine and it’s 56 rounds to the sell pile.

He’ll also ask to temporarily hang on to one of Colt Single-action revolvers as a backup weapon until they get to Austin or wherever they will attempt the weapons sale.

Boot Hill doesn't break ammo down beyond the categories of Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun. But we can do that for a "Survival/Realism mode" game if you guys would like. I posted in the House Rules thread about that.

Shepherd Gang loot

1 Colt double action revolver
6 Colt single action revolvers - 1 taken by William, 1 by DT. 4 remaining
8 cap and ball revolvers
1 Winchester lever action carbine
1 lever action rifle (DT traded it in exchange for the Henry rifle)
1 Henry lever action rifle - taken by DT. 0 remaining.
1 single barreled shotgun - taken by Doos, 0 remaining.
= 46 lbs. weight

4 saddles
4 bridles

120 rounds rifle
56 rounds rifle (from DT's lever action trade-in)
22 rounds shotgun - taken by Doos (GM assumes)
140 rounds pistol
Thumper wrote: Sun Dec 22, 2024 7:28 am Of the 260 Rifle and Pistol ammo from the loot pile, DT would ask for a proportional share (52 rounds: 24 rifle & 28 pistol). From those, he'd select all .44 rounds since his newly acquired Henry rifle and his revolvers all use .44.
All PCs take 24 rifle and 28 pistol rounds.

4 2 excellent horses - One exchanged by Doos for his own excellent horse. One taken by Andreas. One taken by Charlie. Doos's former horse and one more excellent horse remain.
2 3 good horses - Charlie put one into the pool in exchange for an excellent horse.
1 fair horse - Andreas put it into the pool in exchange for an excellent horse.

A mama dog, 3 half-grown dogs

I would like to say that we might want to fight for the cash, right?

Doos thinks we have a good case to keep it.

GM: what do you think?

With his Law skill, Doos knows that generally in Texas the cash is the property of the original owners. But how much of it was originally owned by Wells Fargo or its passengers? And how much was owned by the robbers-rustlers (however they came by it)? It's kind of a moot question, because the group does have a claim to either. But you could argue that it does in court. With a good Law rolls by Doos and/or William (and/or a hired lawyer), you might win.

is a single action revolver better than a double action?

if so, Andreas would like one as part of his share of the loot/reward

SAR is slightly faster in a gun battle/shootout (fast vs average…in getting the first shot off) and can be fired repeatedly at a faster rate by “fanning the hammer”

They are less “Hammer safe” in reality, but that really doesn’t count in n these rules as written.
