Yeah, but insectivores should be hibernating now. They are going to have a hard time finding food in the middle of winter, so the group is likely to be decimated by starvation.

Btw, investigating your suggestion, I just discovered that fruit bats are also called flying foxes, and are much larger than other bats. You learn something new every day.

Vampire bats are tropical, being found only in Central and South America. In our world, anyway. Obviously, in a fantasy world where there are elves and werewolves (and many other things), the laws of nature established here need not always apply.

True! And the gothic horror tradition has vampire bats indigenous to the Carpathian Mountains of Dracula's homeland.
