Triage Time
Sunday, 21st of Goodmonth
Late Afternoon, Hot, Humid, Buggy


Avaala finds Grimm hiding behind a tree in the jungle near his trip line. The disguised mage leaves Luther behind in the care of the dwarf, wishing to return to find his missing familiar.

They both witness something very strange when one of the slizards eventually convinces the other to follow you into the jungle. A shimmering forcefield of some kind of static energy suddenly appears when the slizard steps outside the clearing, essentially vaporizing the creature completely. When the remaining slizard sees this, it freaks out, shouting loudly as it begins running back towards the others again.

Despite Mr. Wrenly’s frantic resistance, Wes starts moving north through the jungle, satisfied that his trapped friends are safe for the moment. Nearing the hanging cage, he takes a closer look as he passes.

The rusting iron cell hangs from a long flexible branch or sapling that is adorned with skulls and bones, most of them appearing humanoid. The outline of a door can be seen in the side of the round cage, but in place of a locking device, a rusting metal bar has been thrust through the hasp and bent around on itself by someone of great strength. Inside the cage is what appears to be the dead form of a human. The naked body is rotting badly, and remnants of it can be seen dripping down from the cage into the pit below.

This pit appears to be filled with a mucky tan colored liquid of some sort, giving off the reek of rotting meat and decaying vegetation.

Grimm looks astounded at what just happened to the slizard. "Well, I'm glad I'm not one of them..." The dwarf murmurs. He then unties the rope he had prepared earlier and remains couched next to Luther.

Wes keeps moving through the trees around the edge of the clearing. He shakes his head and grimaces when he sees the contents of the cage.

Avaala the Grey

Seeing the only living Slizard in their vicinity turn and run, Avaala makes his move. With a nod of thanks to Grimm, he rushes towards the Obelisk once more, just another Slizard doing Slizard stuff. Once he gets to the Obelisk, he looks around for the candle that blew out of the opening earlier, and starts repeating the process again, holding his hand to the print on the side of the Obelisk.

Figuring that's about the limit for one round.

Wes continues making his way around the northern end of the clearing, trying to get to the other side unseen. He notices one of the free slizards walk over to the murky pit, dip a cupped hand inside of the stinking brown stew, and drink the liquid down as if he was having a quick refreshment. The creature mentions something to the others who are still trapped in the grass, but the druid cant make out the words.

Avaala rushes across the clearing after the slizard trying to chase them into the jungle was just disintegrated. Wes sees one slizard running for his friends near the cage, and another running up onto the platform with the obelisk again. Once Avaala gets there, he touches the plaque, answers its riddle, and sees the alcove in the side of the structure appear again. But when he goes to retrieve the candle to light again, it is nowhere to be seen.

Grimm stays with Luther, retrieving his rope and wondering what just happened to cause the slizard to vaporize. Then he starts to hear a commotion to the north, as if someone were heading his way through the thick brush.

Grimm tries to hide as best he can among the bushes, next to Luther. He puts his hand on his sword hilt.

Since it's someone, does it sound like a two legged being rather than a four legged one? Does it sound big or small?

Allowing for the fact that the candle is likely round, the Mage looks around the area for the candle, both on the steps of the dais and the ground in the immediate vicinity. Knowing that he has no candle of his own, he undertakes this search with considerable seriousness.

Wes looks through the trees at the obilisk. He compares the view he has of it now with the view from his former hiding place. Once he has his bearings he heads towards where he left Grimm.

Wes checks his bearings when he sees someone closing in on his position. Grimm watches with sword drawn as the druid pops out from behind a thick bush, reuniting the pair just beyond the eastern edge of the clearing. The two are glad to find each other, and only each other again.

Avaala searches carefully for the missing candle he got from Bonnie earlier, certain it couldn't have rolled too far away. Despite his minute long search, the item is nowhere to be seen. The slizard who was attempting to free the troll from its magical snare decides to find out what the disguised mage is searching for, moving closer to Avaala and speaking to him in a strange, foreign tongue he doesn't understand.

Wes breathes a sigh of relief when he sees Grimm. "Any idea where the others are?", he asks. Then he sees Luther laying on the ground behind the dwarf. "Ah! Let me bring the blessings of Obad Hai to him".

I'm having a problem reaching the dice roller right now. I'll add the CLW result as soon as I can.

Well, that didn't take long :D

"Wes, it's you!" says the dwarf, not hiding his gladness at seeing the druid. "Avaala brought Luther to me so I can guard him and..." when the druid heals the burly warrior he stares at them. "Well, he left to look for his familiar. I just don't know where the others are, except that they're still in the clearing. I think they got Cealwyn. I couldn't hide him well enough, dammit!

The situation looks bad. I'm in no position to fight in the open with so many and despite your help I don't Luther would be too. How are we to rescue our companions?"

Guessing that there can only be a few options on what he might be being asked, Avaala continues to look around, adding hissing and "bugger off", dismissive, hand waves. Realizing that something 'other' has happened to the candle, he begins to move around the south side of the obelisk once more.

Bellows Time?

Avaala searches for the candle as the slizard continues speaking to him, its tone starting to turn a bit more aggressive. The mage can see tiny drips of wax where the candle fell onto the stone platform, and he can pinpoint right where it landed by another smudge of wax, but the candle itself is nowhere to be seen.

After a touching reunion with Grimm, Wes gives Luther the blessings of The Shalm, bringing the burly ranger back to the world of the living again, sputtering something about a rutting troll. He doesn’t look to be in good enough shape to stage a daring rescue, but at least he is still breathing and conscious again.

Looking over the carnage, Luther sees something strange near the hanging cage over the nasty pit. Cealwyn’s body suddenly appears outside the ring of weeds and vines, as if he were being dragged away by some unseen force. Two of the nearby slizards move to investigate, but they seem apprehensive initially. When one of them tries to stop the body’s escape, it lowers back down to the ground again. When they try dragging the unconscious ranger back to the pit, it lifts again and their progress is foiled.

Mr. Wrenly continues hopping around and screeching like a crazed child, pointing across the clearing at Chauncey and pulling each of the party members by their legs in that direction.

Luther sputters and coughs up a clot of blood, then gets to his feet. He studies the chaos in the clearing. Have we got an invisible... Wrenly! he snaps, trying to be firm and keep his voice down. We know your papa's in trouble! We can't just charge in- we'll be in just as much trouble. We're gonna save him!

Grimm"They are too many and I can't fight then hand to hand. I don't want to risk going into the clearing either. The best I can do is fire at them with my crossbow and that's risky. I could hit one of our friends."

Luther assesses the situation, and it doesn't look good. Chauncey's monkey continues to pull on the mans leg, trying to get him to help the fallen mage. Avaala still cant find the candle anywhere when the slizard near him gets right up in his face now, shouting in a language he no longer understands.

Grimm isn't exactly ready to rush in to help either, the injured dwarf knowing he wouldn't last long being outnumbered. Wes thinks he could kill a few more of them, but suggests that maybe they just wait a day to see what happens.

Before they abandon their unconscious friends, and almost on cue, Bonnie suddenly appears again next to the prone form of Cealwyn, apparently the only one in the group still focused on saving her comrades. She places her dagger up to the throat of one of the slizards, shouting at the others nearby, and when it struggles against her, she opens it up from the outside. Blood spurts out from the creatures gaping wound and it topples forward into the dirt. In utter surprise by the sudden appearance of this dangerous killer, and by the instant death of its buddy, the closest slizard hesitates for a moment, not sure what to do now. The pair to her right also see the carnage, rushing towards her with weapons drawn, outnumbering her 3 to 1.

Luther shakes his head as he sees the chaos. He circles to his right, trying to get closer to Bonnie while staying in the treeline. He's staying as quiet as he can.
