Quest #28 "Kegenstien's Expedition Over the River"
Re: Quest #28 "Kegenstien's Expedition Over the River"
Keyon
He sighs. "Well. It's either risk going out after firewood or having insects attack us within the hour." The elf shakes his head. "Should've thought to drag more wood in, but I didn't. Here we go. Keep an eye out and wake the others if something jumps me, will you?"
He aims for the closest piece of easily retrieved firewood and sneaks as quietly as an elven thief might through the clearing to retrieve it. He aims for a smaller piece this time, so he isn't burdened with anything heavy if something rushes him. He dutifully avoids their traps from before and moves as quickly and carefully as possible.

Inside The Smoker
Godsday, 22nd of Goodmonth
Morning, Warm, Humid, Smokey, Buggy
Keyon sneaks out of the shelter again to grab some nearby dead branches small enough to snap off and bring inside. When he turns back towards the hut again, he sees the large insectoid shapes have now converged just above the roof.
Once he gets the fire restoked and smoking good again, there are no further problems with the outside visitors. (probably full from all the dead bodies nearby)
The shelter is hot, smoke filled, and stinky, but everyone survives the night somewhat rested and ready to start a new day. Unfortunately, Darklin is still out cold and will need further aid if he is to be revived. Everyone gains one hit point back for resting uncomfortably. Spells can be regained after prayer and study.

Keyon
The normally dashing elf looks haggard and his eyes are red-rimmed from smoke, but greeting the dawn with a pulse has put him in a grand humor.
He smells like a smoked possum, but life is good. "It's a beautiful day, my friends. Whither are we bound this fine morning, Keg?" He glances up the cliff face in search of their crawling visitors, then scans the jungle to see what else might await them.
He winks at Feanol and Elnaerel. "You ladies look stunning," he says in a playful tone.

Feanol
Having survived the night a bit worse for wear, Feanol breaks from her uneasy trance as dawn ascends on them. Checking Darklin and finding him still unconscious, she ventures out of the smoke filled tent to join The Knife. "Good Morning Brave Sir" she says to him softly. Then in air that doesn't sting her eyes she proceeds to do her morning disciplines that will restore her sleep spell.
Finishing that she will duck back inside to check on Darklin. She has just finished that when Keyon greets her and Elnaerel. Leaning towards the cleric she says in a mock whisper so that it can be heard by Keyon "I bet he says that to all the girls". Then she'll shoot him an appreciative glance and go back to her tending of Darklin.

The Knife
The Knife smiles at Feanol and returns her greeting. Then he grabs his pack out of the lean-to and says to Keyon. "I'll just be over there. You know... morning stuff and all that."
He shuffles off into the trees near the base of the cliff.

Re: Quest #28 "Kegenstien's Expedition Over the River"
anyone else feel like he rolled for that and is as surprised as we are?
Keg
Yawns and gets up. He looks around eagerly. Say... did someone roast a opossum for breakfast? looking around he suddenly looks grumpy, seeing no rotisserie rodent.
He grumbles a bit and turns to eye the cliff face for signs of the big bugs. First things first... how do we bug proof this shelter for tonight? We need more firewood for sure, or at least something to make smoke to keep the bugs away. Can me make some kind of obstacle to stop them? We have a spot to come back to, it might not be ideal, but it is likely better than what we will find elsewhere over here.

Keyon
The rogue grins. "Only the pretty ones," he whispers equally loudly and chuckles as he turns to Keg. The big man's comment prompts Keyon to sniff his shirt. He wrinkles his nose and sighs. "If only. I'd eat that smoked tree rat right now rather than these dry rations again," he mutters. "Feels like I'm back at sea nibbling an old biscuit."
He sets to gathering wood while the others perform their morning routines. "If we're staying here again, I'll not be eaten by starving bugs. They haven't any bodies to chew on tonight, so they might be bold enough to try us."

Elnaerel wakes up. Despite the perils and the lack of comfort, she appreciates sleeping in the woods. She greets everyone good morning and chuckles at Feanol's comment regarding Keyon's. When the elf rogue delivers his comeback she smiles at him shaking her head.
"Now, if you all excuse me, I have to do my morning prayers to Ehlenestra." She looks down at Darklin. "Hang in there, Darklin, I'm gonna be with you shortly." She sits down in a quite place, as much as it is possible within the confines of the small encampment, and tries to meditate on her faith and her goddess, murmiring prayers to herself.

Inside The Smoker
Godsday, 23rd of Goodmonth
Morning, Warm, Humid, Smokey, Buggy
Despite their many bug bites, mussed hair, morning breath, stinking clothes and body odors, the elves continue to flirt with each other like excitable teenagers. The breakfast talk mentions smoked rodents, but their ogre made shelter smells far worse than that.
The spellcasters go about their morning rituals while the others look over the clearing in the morning light. All of them are happy to be out of the smoke ridden hut. The area around the shelter looks the same, but looking up at the sheer cliff face in the new light reveals a few small openings that weren’t spotted the night before. One of these is larger than the others, about 50 feet or so off the ground, and looks more like a cave entrance of some kind. The big bugs are nowhere to be seen.
With their magic renewed, the talk turns to what the new day may bring.

The Knife
The gnome cranes his neck way back to see the cave. "Well, you don't need to be the head of the Sage's Guild to guess where those bugs went," he says.
"So, do we leave them alone and go about our day? Hope that they leave us alone again tonight? Or try to do something about them?" He pauses. "What other solution?...No, it's not obvious...No, it is not...Will you just tell me what it is?... Honestly, you're insufferable when you're like this!". The Knife looks at Keg and Keyon, rolls his eyes and throws up his hands.

Elnaerel kneels next to Darklin and lays her hand on his chest, asking for her goddess' help.
Cure Light Wounds: [1d8] = 6
I'll save the two that are left for later on, just in case.

Ahhh. Oh crap what is that horrible stench? What happened? Crazy Dreams, Ogres, Wild Boar. I need some fresh air, my lungs are burning. Elnaerel, thank you for healing me. I wasn't expecting that wasted boar to respond so quickly.
Ooc- Does the mobile version not give you color options?

Well I hope you all at least ate the damn pig. How long have I been out? Still need to study some spells but fresh air is top priority right now.
He allows Feanol to help him outside

I dont use the mobile version, but the font colors can be found by clicking the button with the little ink droplet to the left of the font size dropdown menu in the full editor.
Took me a while to find that myself.

Helps Darklin outside "Well unfortunately the hog had some kind of disease so we passed on that. I know we were all looking forward to it, but it wasn't to be. This is a good spot and the air is much fresher. Glad to see you're back on your feet." With that shell get out her gear and start taking a reading of the sun's location and recording it along with bringing her mapping up to date.

A Beautiful Buggy Day
Godsday, 23rd of Goodmonth
Morning, Warm, Humid, Buggy
Outside the shelter reeking with irritating smog, the explorers eat a breakfast with no delicious hog. Their morning rituals complete, Darklin is brought back to the world of the living before being brought up to date on what happened while he was out.
Looking up at the cliff face, The Knifes converse on how the holes in the rock face should be addressed, especially the big one that looks like a cave.
Feanol studies her magic before taking some readings with her equipment and then altering her notes. If the overall map she copied back in town is accurate, the frail elf believes her group is currently positioned almost half way in between the waterfall and the sea along the edge of the massive cliff wall.

Hearing the Knife conversing about the caves and insects while she takes her readings, she has an idea. Once finished she speaks up to those outside "Rather than get into a fight right now with these creatures, maybe we wait and when we get back here this afternoon, if we do come back, we go up and put some oil in the entry way, and then if they start coming out we put fire arrows into the oil and let the fire deal with them, and if they get past that let the light gives us the ability to take them out with arrows."

Feeling better pulls out his spell book and memorizes a spell for the day. Addressing Feanol:
The air out here is much better. So where do you think we are as far as distance to the other side of the island? Did we find anything good in the shelter?
OOC- Yeah the mobile version doesn't have the drop icon for colored text. I had to update when I got back to computer.
