Re: Quest #15 "Taking Down Captain Bing"
Alordan wonders what Chauney and his new friends are chatting about but it seems to be going well. "Maybe you can work that magic with the beachtown when we get back. Might be good for both the beach town people and this tribe if they could get to know eachother? Maybe do some trading?"
When he is up for it, he'll get up and collect some of the remaining building materials to start a fire for the night.

With a sigh of disappointment he looks around even as he shrinks growing solemn. They hadn't rescued their friends. He remembers the body hanging on display nearby and is afraid to go look. He does take a good look at the natives about, and decides they did something good here after all. Resting his swords on his sizable shoulders, he makes his way to retrieve his clothes and armor from the hiding spot.
Maybe a dip in fresh water from the falls and a good rest in the cool cave will leave him able to think better in the morning, he muses.

I'm afraid you may be right, Alordan. We should try to make some plans for tomorrow. Just let me rest my eyes for a few moments....
Luther settles against the cave wall and is soundly asleep before he finishes the thought. He snores loudly, sounding like a large dog growling.

Lightfinger shares berries and nuts.
Wine would be good right now, He mutters. Aladdin, you're a thinker. I like you. You are 100% correct about those miscreants returning, after they inform their Captain. And likely receiving a proper scolding for their failure here. But it's been my experience that those in power will do anything to remain in power. I think we can count on the Captain showing some umph as soon as he can gather reinforcements. Remaining here would be less than wise. Honestly, we should disappear. It may seem callous, but better the native Warriors feel the Captain's wrath than us. While he's wreaking vengeance here, we should also be gathering the troops for an all-out attack, before he's able to shore up his defenses. And I still want his ship. The Hobbit notices nearly everyone is fighting sleep, and indeed he himself could use some winks. Not that it would keep him from talking.

Re: Quest #15 "Taking Down Captain Bing"
“I did that. That was me,” says Chauncey to the startled natives upon Monocar’s retransformation. As Monocar begins to leave to find his clothing, he interrupts him, “Monocar, I am wearing your things, remember? My disguise? How I so skillfully infiltrated the camp undetected? Would you mind, however, picking up my robes and hat, if you are headed that way? I have things to discuss with the Chief while my incantation yet lasts...” he says. Turning to the Chief again he says “Keilif?” and shrugs. He then holds up a finger, pulls a piece of parchment and some ink from his pack and begins to sketch. First he draws a rough map of the camp, then a crude likeness of the captain and some brigands. He draws an arrow from the captain up the river and the path, indicating an immanent attack. He then points to the Chief and his warriors then draws them in the camp and next draws pits filled with spikes along the path. He next points to the river. He draws captain Bing’s ship there, then points to the Chief and his warriors again and draws fire arrows burning the ship. Finally, he draws himself into the picture and adds magic squiggles arcing from himself towards the ship.Bluehorse wrote:Monocar

When he hears Lightfinger speak about leaving the natives to their fate he says “We each will do as we must. I, for one, feel compelled to see this venture through to the end. At the termination of which, I intend to stand victoriously over the rapidly cooling corpse of one Captain Bing so that he might never disrupt the ever growing order on my island again.”

Emancipation!!!
It Is A Good Night To Be Alive
Starday, The 6th of Goodmonth
Evening, Hot, Muggy, Smokey
One by one the party members begin to fall asleep in the relative comfort and safety of the cave. The natives don't seem to mind.
Alordan collects the broken crates to start a small camp fire, suggesting that the mage discuss future trade with the people of Beachtown. The normal size but still huge Monocar moves off solemnly to collect the gear left behind by he and his friends. He ponders a quick bath in the waterfall before bed.
Even though he just risked his own life and limb to rescue these oppressed people, Lightfinger just as quickly tells the others that they should leave them now, just in case the pirates come back for revenge. Chauncey is not too keen on that idea. Lerrick closes her eyes next, you cant tell if she is praying or mumbling in her sleep.
Although the entire group is completely exhausted after 2 days with no sleep, Chauncey still tries to communicate with the natives a bit more before even thinking about sleeping. He draws out an elaborate sketch that none of the natives seem to follow in the least. The chief continues to talk, to him and to his own people, offering up more information if he can.
"Yes Keilif. He was our friend. He came here with offerings of peace when others only brought pain and death. Now he is gone, but you are here in his place. That is good."
He asks the others if they understand the wizards drawing.
"Are any of you getting anything out of this? Seems like this paleface could use some sleep. That person might be the captain, but what is that supposed to be? Or that? Is that supposed to be the river? Then what is that?"
Chauncey finishes the drawing anyway, though he has no idea if the natives even know what a ship is, or a bow, or what his magic squiggly lines really mean. Finally the chief tries his own approach. He looks Chauncey in the face and starts asking questions.

Gets everyone's gear, giving Chauncey his robes and taking back his own clothes. He stows his armor and gear in the cave before taking his now clothed self over to the river for a scrub, washing his clothes as well. He then joins his companions in the cave for a well earned sleep.

Chauncey sighs. “What, you don’t understand perfectly executed diagrams? Yes, I understand you. Gweeqay,” he says pointing to the Chief. He then points to himself.“Chauncey,” he says. ”Friends. Now, I bid you goodnight, sir.” Finally realizing how tired he is, he is barely able to finish changing back into his wizardly robes before curling up against the back wall and falling into a deep sleep, using his pack as a pillow.

Returning Camp To The Natives
Sunday, The 7th of Goodmonth
Morning, Warm, Misty, Smokey
Chauncey realizes that it might be best to attempt communication after some rest. Then, before they even know what's happened, the exhausted group is fast asleep in the confines of the cave. Alordan tries to set up a watch, but even the hardened ranger is sleeping before too long. The natives continue working throughout the night, keeping an eye on their new sleepy friends.
In the morning, the smell of the burnt buildings is still obvious, but the rubble and ruin is all cleaned up. The camp is filled with action now, with even more of the displaced natives returning in the dark of night. There has to be over 100 of them in total inside the camp now, all of them seem to be waiting for you to arise. The smell of cooked meat and fresh cut fruit assails your nostrils as you awaken.
A native that you haven't seen before sits in the opening of the cave, smiling at each of you as you rise on this new day. He waves a smoldering stalk of the herb at you with a big grin on his face. You feel much better this morning, refreshed from an entire night of sleeping without the constant assault from the nasty bugs chewing on you. The sound of new construction starts up shortly after you awaken.

You each received one hit point for resting and all spells can now be replenished.
So I don't make the same mistake again, I will figure up some XP at the conclusion of your visit here.

The big ranger wakes up, yawning and grunting as stiff joints complain about the sleeping arrangements. After a quick visit to the undergrowth, he comes back to the others.
I needed that! If we think Bing and his sidekick are coming back, we better get busy setting up an ambush. Maybe at a bend in the trail? I'll go take a look.... his stomach growls loudly. After some breakfast.

Gets up with a grunt of pain. He was still stiff and wounded... on a scale of 1 to 34 he felt like a 4, he reasoned
He walked out happy that the bugs were at bay last night and the cave was cool as well. He walked out to pray to Pholtus before he seeks out a meal from the found stores. He makes it a point of asking the party about replenishing their personal stocks. Everyone had to eat and he, for one, was about out of food.
He then reluctantly goes to where they saw the remains hanging on display the previous day. Worried it might be their missing comrades.
He will also check with the mages about the sword he picked up off the big fighter that "felt funny" when he used it.

No, I'll not wake up yet, He yawns and stretches, I'll just lay here and wallow in noisome anguish until we're attacked again. By the way, who is that man, and why is he smiling?

Alordan wakes and stares at the sky for a bit, feeling like he was hit by a run-away freight wagon. Everything hurts and aches. With a resigned sigh that seems to be the mantra of his life of late, he rises to see what the building noise is all about. Maybe moving around a bit will help his aches and pains. He nods at the smiling man as he passes by...

Luther collects some of the fresh fruit and a sizable strip of jerky. Gnawing on it, he starts thinking aloud.
If they're comin' up the river- or the trail-we can blockade 'em and ambush 'em. A rope across the river- right above the surface- will slow them down. Then,we feather them with arrows and maybe spells.
Same basic idea if they're on the trail. We find a sharp bend, then set up a right angle attack.

Returning Camp To The Natives
Sunday, The 7th of Goodmonth
Morning, Warm, Misty, Smokey
As they arise on this new day, happy to have survived the nights attack, the group starts to realize that the happenings outside the cave are for their benefit. The smiling native stands and motions for the sleepy group to follow him outside. “Mi fren Keilif! Him teach I tings. Join we!”
There is a huge table set up near the drying barns that is filled with ready to eat food. The entire group is escorted to their seats by the most attractive of the native females, possibly some custom of theirs, and every member of the group is now honered and revered.
Once Chauncey reluctantly joins them, there is a loud round of cheers and grunts from the native people. Shouts of “FIA!” resonate throughout the camp as the mage takes his seat at the breakfast table. Those around him have started addressing the mage as FiaMasta.
It is clear that the battles details have been discussed overnight and that all of the natives have been told about the groups heroics. Even with the lingering communication issues, the group finally feels like the natives trust them and are aware why they came here. There is no talk of ambush or further plans from the natives, not during the meal anyway. They don’t seem all that concerned about the Captain or his men coming back.
