I was imagining more of an arc forward into the room but yea, ricochet could be a problem i guess if shooting more straight up.

That was why I was asking. I am imagining a bunch of bats directly over our heads, for the most part... wanting to get a more specific visual...

Well, Ogirdor would like to recover some arrows so that is not completely unwelcome...

Hi all, sorry for the lack of posting. It's school conferences week, and we now have four (count them, four

) kids in school, so it's been a little hectic...
Short answer, you are directly underneath the hanging creatures. They're all about 20-25 feet up. The stalactites hanging down make for places where they can hide up in there, but you could easily back off of the path 5-10 feet, gain some cover from stalagmites and boulders, and form up in a semi-circle to shoot out of, so that any arrows that miss will then land away from the party, if you follow me.
I just need attack rolls posted from everyone if that's your course of action.
Other than that, someone mentioned running, and the answer is, yes: you're all pretty sure that if you just run, you'll make it out into the open without much trouble. The beasties might follow, of course, and don't forget that you hear and now can see that it's raining out there. Not a big storm or anything, but just so you remember...

Oops, typo! Should be "writhing" serpent...
You already got a rod with a serpent on it...
Hmmm, serpent rod, serpent amulet, serpent's eye, sword called the "hewer of serpents"... it's like a pattern or something...

Does the serprent amulet fit into the rod in some way? Do we know if the rod is magical from past detection attempts? If put together do the two items radiate stronger magic than each one individually? I can post this in the IC thread if appropriate.

Sorry guys, another crazy week, full of unexpected/unplanned plumbing and the subsequent fallout/cleanup...
So both the rod and amulet radiate magic. The rod bears a dwarven rune that roughly translates as "transform," very likely a command word. The amulet, you have no idea what it does, and it doesn't have any markings to give you a clue. What I gave you in the action thread is about all you know, collectively.
You can always experiment, of course...
Update in the works...

Going to wait until tonight and push forward with whatever plan seems to carry the majority decision. Vote early, vote often!

The river sounds like a good idea - we can swim under the web, Swibosh can carry/help any weak swimmers and take gear through in several trips. How about it?

If that is an option... But even then we would have to get all of our gear wet, which I don't think would be a good idea - rations, torches and other stuff would be better kept out of the water.
Let's see what it looks like when we arrive at that particular point. I doubt we'll have an easy time, but being close to the river and not completely surrounded by the trees should give us some flexibility. (hopefully)

The hero of Hornwood Forest does not mind the woods.
Perhaps we can fashion a log raft for us or our equipment should the river be it.

"I do have a few important papers that I dont want to get wet........again.
Im sure Swilbosh wouldnt mind spending an hour or so and transport ALL of that stuff across while doing the backstroke.
Stonjuz adds, from habit, You can be sure I'll be wanting to rest for spells soon enough regardless of our decision."
Sorry, but I have forgotten where I am with prepared spells.
