Marge is around, and completely willing to lend her verbose expertise wherever it is needed. Especially if the charismatic half-elf with the power to create potable water is asking.

We can advance the time here to the next day so you can TCB whenever you want to.Jernau35 wrote:Wes has another "to do" list while he's back in town. He's got to cure the sick man in the bunkhouse and use his magic to grow the vegetable garden. That will use up both of his 3rd level spells for that day. Since time is pretty "flexible" in town, maybe we could skip a day ahead until Wes has his full complement?

If you don't feel like RP'ing all of that stuff out, just paraphrase what you want to do and I can write it all in.
Re: Everyday Life in Beachtown
Wes
In the morning, Wes returns to the common house, to the bedside of the sick man. Once again he summons his magic to cure the fever afflicting the man. "You are a brave woman." he remarks to the man's wife. "Anybody else would have asked me to cure their husband first and let one of the others take their chances. I will continue to ask Obad Hai to send his blessings to you".
Once Wes in done in the common house, he heads outside to one of the garden patches. He finds the one with the ripest, most grown crop of vegetables. Then he stands next to it and raises his hands to the sky. OBAD HAI! Hear your humble servant Waesfaren! Bless and grow these plants! Grow them so that they shall increase their yield and feed so many more of the hungry mouths here in this town! Bless them Obad Hai! For this we thank you". Then begins to cast his magic over the vegetable patch.

Re: Everyday Life in Beachtown
The older woman greets Wes at the door of the closest common house and leads him to her dying husband.
"Thank you so much for actually coming my friend! I confess that I had my doubts that you would return. I don't think Stan will make it much longer in his current condition."
A small group of commoners gathers around the sick man as the druid works his magic. The spell only takes a moment before obvious signs of improvement are easily noticed. Before long, the old man is sitting up in his bed for the first time in a week and the crowd cant believe their eyes.
Whispers of things like "I thought he would be the next to go." are clearly heard from the people, but after Stan starts speaking again and drinking some water, the whole common house erupts with cheering and shouts of praise for the druid.
The woman throws her arms around the half-elf and kisses his cheeks and forehead repeatedly."Whoever said that your kind were reclusive ne'er-do-wells was a frickin idiot! You sir are the best thing that has happened to us since we got here!" She looks to the others assembled and shouts out. "This man healed my Stanley! Three cheers for Wes the nature priest!" The entire building explodes with happy cheers, indicating that the man was obviously well liked around here.
I wanted to stop there in case Wes had a reply before going out and playing god in the garden next.

Wes
Wes grins and blushes a lot, liking the praise but not used to being the center of attention. "Well I have to confess that I first came here with selfish thoughts of wandering the jungle and experiencing all the strange new plants and animals. But meeting all of you and sharing your problems has given Obad Hai the chance to show me that there is much to being a druid that I didn't know about. I'm sure there is still much more to learn. But perhaps we can learn it together".
Wes smiles some more and stays for a while to chat with some of the folk before he goes out to the vegetable garden.

Re: Everyday Life in Beachtown
The powerful druid has clearly proven himself to be a true follower in the ways of Obad-Hai. And the Shalm, in return, has blessed Waesfaren with not only the means to help other people, but the common sense to realize that it is always the right thing to do.
Eager to do even more for his suffering new friends, Wes, followed by a large contingency of excited townsfolk, heads out to look at the struggling crops. Wes finds one of the only patches of land that appears to be growing something substantial. Reciting a quick speech for the onlookers, the eager to learn druid does indeed learn a quick lesson about his power. Hoping to further grow huge amounts of food for the hungry, he begins his spell over the harsh land.
Unfortunately, the first thing the druid learns is that he isn't powerful enough to distinguish between weed or plant with his magic. The crops in the field certainly start to grow rapidly, but so do the weeds, roots, vines, and any other living foliage in the area of spells effect. Before long, there is a huge thicket of brambles, weeds, and even trees growing up where the questionable garden used to be.
The townies look around at each other in confusion after they notice that all the druid seemed to do was increase the size of the jungle, until one inquisitive farmer attempts to start chopping and digging away at the edge of the new wall of weeds. Before long, he digs out a ripe squash the size of a bugbears head and cries out to the others."Lookey da size a dis one! Dis is da biggest gourd I ever seen! If'n da udder veg in here has grown to dis size, we will have enough food for WEEKS!!!"
The rest of the onlookers investigate the edge of the thick patch of vegetation to see what they can find, eventually digging up huge potatoes, pumpkins, and even carefully trimming out around the more delicate vegetables like tomatoes, peppers, and corn. Each new veg they discover comes out big, plump, and perfectly ripe. The excitement starts to grow as more and more food is cut out of the thicket patch, drawing even more of a crowd around the garden area.
One of the farmers slaps Wes on the back pretty hard. "It looks like you not only increased our yield here, by about 20 fold, but you also cleverly hid it form any bugs, animals, or thieves in the process. Nothing will get a meal out of this briar patch without a little work first. Especially anything growing towards the center. I have to admit, I didn't think you knew what you were doing at first, but this idea was pure genius!" He shakes the druids hand emphatically as he finishes. "Thank you, sir, for these gifts of food. We sure could have used someone like you around the last couple of months! What did you say your name was again? I sure hope you plan on sticking around here for a good long while, fine sir!"

Wes
"My full name impresses the elves, but regular folk just call me Wes" answers the druid. "I'll do my best to be around for a while. Obad Hai can see that you need help here, so he's sent me to do my best. Folks need to learn to live in balance with the world. Take only what you need. And the world will live in balance with you. Once we're set up here, it'll all come right, you'll see".
Wes stays around for a while, subtlety dropping the message of Obad Hai a few more times, then move off to re-fill the water barrels with his remaining spells.
Once that is done, he moves over to one of the trees at the edge of the clearing near the vegetable garden, removes his dagger from its sheath and starts his work. He's not really an artist, but as a druid of The Shalm, it's an image he's carved a few times before. Though it takes him all day he keeps at his work, inspired by his passion for Obad Hai.

"Obad Hai, you say. That is a deity I am not too familiar with. But if he has given you the power and mindset to help us lowly farmers, then I will need to learn as much as I can about him!"
The commoners listen intently to the wisdom filled words of the druid, actually congregating around him when he speaks of The Shalm. Most of them go about their business afterwards with an appreciative "thank you", but 5 of them decide to follow Wes around as he preforms his miracles of water creation. They "oohh and aahh" once the water level in the big barrel rises right in front of their eyes.
The small gathering of possible future followers joins the druid as he carves as well, watching his work intently and with many compliments offered. Each of them wishes they could hear more of the nature priests words as he creates the stunning carved idol to his god right there at the edge of their little town.

Re: Everyday Life in Beachtown
Starday, The 6th of Goodmonth
Late Afternoon, Hot, Sunny, Buggy
The good people of Beachtown watch something unusual happen late in the day on the 6th. Those gathered near the beach notice it first, but eventually there is a rather large group assembled, staring down the shoreline to the east.
A ship approaches from that direction, staying fairly close to the shore as it draws nearer. Eventually it is surmised that the vessel is none other than the Green Flash, Captain Bing's ship, that hasn't been seen for weeks now. Knowing that this was one of the sister ships to Captain Quark, the commoners begin to cheer and wave their arms in anticipation of new supplies and new people coming ashore.
The large vessel slows considerably, but doesn't stop at the long dock as it normally would. This draws concerns from those gathered at the shore, stifling their enthusiasm instantly. Creeping past Beachtown very slowly, it is easy to see that this ship has no intentions of stopping to resupply the town.
At the prow of the ship stands a familiar young man dressed in dirty light blue robes. He is looking out over the water with his arms outstretched to the sides as if he were trying to fly or something. Some of the townies recognize him as Keilif, a kind priest that used to live amongst them here. They shout and wave, but get no response from the preoccupied young man.
The motley looking crew of the ship stands at the rail, staring out over the town as they pass, like some kind of aquatic medieval drive-by. They do not react to the jeers from the hungry people. Captain Bing himself is seen standing at the center of the rail, holding his big hat in his hands and bowing in obvious mockery while the ship sails past the rundown town. Behind the crew and captain, large square bundles are stacked on the deck where huge black logs used to be stored for transport. Apparently this crew of miscreants has found a more lucrative export to deal in.
After they clear the end of the long beach, they take off in a southerly direction, the same route they would take to return to the mainland.
Mr. Nehru looks completely confused by the entire proceedings. He shakes his head in frustration, but doesn't know what to say to the gathered townsfolk.

Wes
As he works on the tree, Wes takes the time to talk to those watching about Obad-Hai.
“Obad-Hai teaches that we should live in harmony with all in nature. We may reap the fruits of the forest and hunt the creatures who dwell there. Hunters especially are valued by him. They take the weak and the sick, and allow the strong to thrive. Those who follow Obad-Hai know that death is as important as life.”
“We can see that all life is a wheel that turns endlessly. We rise in the morning and sleep at night. Spring turns to summer to winter to autumn and back again. We are born and then we die.”
“Indeed our faith holds that Obad-Hai is reborn every spring, hatching in the form of a young boy from the fruit of a sapling that grows from his own grave. By summer Obad-Hai takes the form of a strong young man, the Stag King, leading the Wild Hunt against those who would defile Nature. By autumn he has grown into the weathered old man. When winter begins he is slain by Nerull, who hangs his corpse on the Summer Tree. After seven days, Pelor cuts him down and buries him in the earth, where Beory’s tears cause a new sapling to grow, which drops the fruit that hatches into the young Obad-Hai once again in the spring.”
"Folks should live in harmony with nature in all of its forms. Those who destroy or harm nature will meet swift vengeance. Those who are one with nature have little to fear, although the well-meaning but foolish are sometimes brought down by a danger they could not avoid or divert. The wilds can be ugly, dangerous, or terrible, but these things are a part of nature and should be respected as much as those that are beautiful, harmless, or wonderful."
As he finishes his work, Wes steps back and stretches his aching limbs. Then he walks away for a few moments, searching in the underbrush for a handful of seeds. Then he returns to the base of the tree, and uses his dagger to make holes in which to plant the seeds. “I must go again into the jungle tomorrow. Will you make sure that these seeds are watered while I am gone?” Wes asks his audience. “I will ask Obad-Hai to bless these seeds now. Will you join me?” Wes holds out his hands.

Re: Everyday Life in Beachtown
Wes holds the interest of several of the townsfolk as he carves and preaches, whispers of the great and powerful Obad-Hai already slowly infiltrating the town. Others stop at the tree as they pass, listening for a moment, at least, out of respect for what the kind half-elf has done for the people.
After a while, the druid is certain that he could mold the minds of these simple farmers easily enough to start himself quite a following here on the island. In fact, two young women stay with him the entire time he carves. They blink at him slowly while hanging on his every word.
He gets several volunteers to pray with him, the girls quickly straddle him on either side as they join hands, so each can hold one. Everyone gathered offers to tend to his tiny garden while he is out gathering more food for them.
Once finished, Wes looks out over the town, already noticing the difference he has made here in just a few short days. He knows that the people here won’t make it on their own today, but they might be self supportive eventually with a little more help from good souls like he and Liam. He can feel good about the progress he is making here so far.

Goes about his rounds passing out shares of milk and eggs to the townsfolk, making sure to take care of children and expecting mothers first. He also inquires with farmers that might want some of the manure his animals have been producing for their fields. That done, he begins to inquire about the Druid Wes, who he had heard was back in town. He decided to wait for him near the Obi Di tree.
If anyone sees Wes... let him know I want to meet with him, hmm?

Well, sir! I am happy to report that your work the other day on Caleb'sfield worked wonders. My own modest efforts are starting to make some headway. Food is getting passed around. We have plans for fertilizing fields. I have been speaking to the locals and found some info to tickle your fancy. First concerns the giant locust Caleb mentioned that are the size of cattle called anhegs. Assuming this is truth,
and I have nod reason to think he'd lie about it... one of the immediate cures for that concerning the livestock would be to build a barn, but we need lumber for that. I was hoping you could ask the treetop natives for permission to harvest some trees for that. My other thought was to build a grainery for storing the harvests and keeping it safe from such dangers.
But again, this takes lumber. You see where I am getting at. The last thing... I heard a tale about a young couple here who lost their sweet baby girl. Some accusations have come to a man named Joewho I recently took on as an apprentice to keep an eye on him and lend him some skills and help of his own. He seems too simple to kidnap someone, but he did show up with the girl's blanket, which I agree doesn't look good... but I will try to handle that on my end. I was thinking the couple may benefit from some more... spiritual guidance.
I dont mean to assume your business or that of your mighty God. But you came to mind when I heard of their plight. Later I'd you could, I'd love to have you over to my place to discuss these sorts of matters and inspect my animals. I would value your opinion on their living conditions.

The druid considers for a few moments. "Well, I'm glad to hear your plans are moving on at such a pace, Liam. I'll try and help however I can.
"I can try to ask the phanaton if they will object to some of the trees being used for lumber. I can't predict what they'll say. Maybe at least they'll be able to point us in the direction of the closest trees outside their territory. Another reason to move the town closer to the river really...it may take a while to negotiate with them, I can only talk to them for a minute or so at a time.
I'll be happy to discuss your plans for your animals with you. And with them too!" Wes chuckles at this point. "I'm sure they'll have a few suggestions!
A missing baby eh? Terrible news, terrible." He shakes his head, but decides not to tell Liam about the noise he and Galanthas heard beyond the hag's cave, for fear of raising false hopes. "I'll do what I can to help them as soon as I may. Unfortunately, Galanthas and I have to leave again to recross the river. We found something there that has to be dealt with immediately.
However, with Obad Hai's favor, we should return before nightfall. Perhaps I will be able to lend some aid tomorrow."

He grins at the idea of Wes speaking with his animals. Excellent! I would love to hear what they have to say! he pauses. Especially my poor bees. They are having difficulty adjusting it seems, which is surprising as they are a tropical and hearty breed. I did make my hard intelligence roll on this one, so more info will be on the way!
I would be interested in meeting with the phantoms,
if you think they would not object. I can bring an offering if you think it would help.
As for your trip across the river, it seems it was productive if you are heading back so soon. Is there anything I can offer that might help? Are you stocked for supplies? Oh! Would you be interested in taking a cartographers kit for mapping?
Well, probably not... sorry I get excited sometimes. Whatever I can provide is at your service.

Great stuff here guys! Feel free to continue as long as it isn’t too confusing to act in multiple places at the same time. (I’m sure some of you can handle that)

"Thank you Liam. I think we have all we need right now, except for extra hands. It's not that our last trip was productive, just that we discovered something deadly over there. We lost three men and poor Greff seems to have been traumatized by the experience. We think we've killed the main threat, including something that sounds like one of those burrowing worms you described. But we didn't investigate the cave fully, and we suspect there's something back there still.
Indeed, talking to phanatons and farm animals will be a nice rest after all this!" Wes chuckles ruefully and shakes his head.

The man will smile and gesture. When you are ready, my good druid. I am at your service. You know... my youngest sister is a druid back home. Her and here... coven? Covenant? Whatever your groups are called... They live north of our home town... Out in the grasslands. Her name is Wren appropriately enough. A very good girl. Always talking to mice, though. But she is the best of us to be honest. Anyway, I am particularly worried about my poor bees. It seems other bugs are competing with them for the hive. Jetsom bees are a hearty breed, so I am rather surprised. I am looking at making a screen if it will help to some of the larger invaders out, but I fear for them.
