To the others: "That was a better reaction than I expected. He is asking about food and water. Is now the time to mention those below?"

"Sure, not sure what to tell him about food since I have no issue helping them but it won't be by feeding them people."

"Perhaps we can lead them back to the city. Or likely there is food remaining here. I don't condone cannibalism but neither do I condone starvation."

Drest

"And my people are called savages. They won't return willingly to the city, they are better off dead."

Xenos

"We need no more than two days rations each to get us back to Xambaala. Do we have any we could spare? It depends on how many there are."

Akhilleus

"I don't even have water for myself. Unless there's some water stored here, we can't give them anything."

Xenos replies to the slave

"We barely have enough food and water to return to Xambaala. Can you not hunt? There are more of your people below. They are unharmed. We will release them if you take them away with you."

The Ixian speaking slave doesn't seem to comprehend the groups conversation, but he does reply to Xenos again.

“More of us? Below....what?”

Xenos gestures to the stairs

"There are rooms down there, we heard movement in one of them. You did not know they were there? Is it not your people down there?"

If Xenos let us know what was said, "That was my worry, I don't think those are more slaves down there."

Xenos relays the slaves words and concern

He replies to the slave, gesturing:

"Down the stairs in the kitchen. I can show you, I promise not to harm you."

When the slave screams, "Xenos what is wrong, he is going to draw unwanted attention."

Akhilleus remains in the same posture and attitude as earlier.

The man seems interested in seeing this kitchen and whatever might lie below it. He calls out to a few of the others in his pigeon patois, getting three men to return to the group while the rest of the slaves remain out of sight up in the ruins.

This quartet of former slaves now stands at the ready, seemingly willing to be escorted to the kitchen area. Only two of them carry weapons, and none are wearing any form of armor. The Ixian speaker is still the only one of their numbers fully able to communicate, so he takes the lead position. "The lower area............is where the rituals happen?"

"Perhaps they were afraid to go down the stairs because of the snake-men priests. What did he say Xenos?"

I don't know if we should take this as a sign of trust on their part? But it's a good sign, I'd say.
