Quest #29 “Raiders of the Lost Obelisk”
Re: Quest #29 “Raiders of the Lost Obelisk”
Wes
Wes grits his teeth and tries to his best to ignore the pain of the blows. He keeps running into the trees as fast as he can. Once in amongst all the trees, bushes and undergrowth, he relies on his skills as a druid to pick a clear path and stay in front of the slizards.

Frying Pan, Meet Inferno
Sunday, 21st of Goodmonth
Late Afternoon, Hot, Humid, Buggy
The jungle troll tries to stand again, but falls on his hairy green rump with another frightening roar.
The slizards passing by look at Avaala with suspicion, but don't stop or alter their course in any way. The disguised mage sees the pair standing at the edge of the jungle, waiting for Grimm to return.
Paul's dead body is dragged to the hanging cage area where the slizards begin stripping the man of his clothing and belongings.
Wes rushes into the jungle, moving freely through the thick underbrush. The slizards chasing him also stop at the edge of the tree line, looking into the jungle, but not stepping one foot outside their clearing, awaiting the return of the druid.
The beating Chauncey is taking continues, leaving him little option other than to cower and protect himself with his arms. 6 dam His pleas for help hang in the air along with the horrible screeching coming from Mr. Wrenly who is currently jumping around from branch to branch on a nearby tree. "Where has everyone gone? Bonnie? Bonnie? Is that you? Wesley? Avaala? Am I to be left to die here at the hands of these uncouth beasts?"

Avaala the Grey
Avaala veers slightly to the north of the Slizards that followed Wes, still determined to get Luther out of harm's way. "Bonnie," he whispers loud enough to be heard for several feet in any direction. "Are you here? One of us needs to care for Luther and one of us needs to try to help Chauncey. If we just leave Luther hidden in the forest, the bugs will eat him." He waits just inside the edge of the forest for a reply.

Oooh...interesting. 'Several feet' lands this in OM's judgment.
Re: Quest #29 “Raiders of the Lost Obelisk”
Wes
Once Wes realizes he's not being pursued, he stops and takes cover behind a tree. Wes can hear Chauncey screaming out and remembers seeing the mage being attacked as he ran by on his way to the trees.
Wes stares at the waiting slizards. Well, I can't get by these fellas, he thinks. But this might help Chauncey. The druid begins to call on Obad Hai to imbue the grasses and weeds around the wizard with the power to Entangle him and his attackers.

After running from the four slizards that were attacking him, Grimm remains unseen, hidden somewhere in the jungle.

Luther
Luther knows this sensation well- the not-quite-dead feeling of having been grievously wounded. He would smile and relax, if such things were possible...

Triage Time
Sunday, 21st of Goodmonth
Late Afternoon, Hot, Humid, Buggy
Wes stays hidden in the jungle, casting another spell that should help save Chauncey, just as the mage is bludgeoned into unconsciousness by the slizards. Grimm remains out of sight, leaving no indication as to his current whereabouts.
While the vegetation roils up around the western side of the clearing this time, trapping friend and foe alike, Avaala speaks out to Bonnie, but gets no reply as he drags Luther past the edge of the clearing. The pair of lizard men watching for Grimm see the disguised mage dragging away food, so they begin walking in his direction to investigate.

Wes
Having done his best for Chauncey, Wes tries to aid Cealwyn. The druid casts another Entangle spell in the area around the cage that he is being dragged towards. He tries to place it so that Cealwyn will be on the further edge of the area of grasping vegetation.

I think I am waiting for a couple of private actions before I can move this along. Sorry for the delay.

Sorry about the delay. Someone cast entangle on me.

Re: Quest #29 “Raiders of the Lost Obelisk”
I was considering some private actions, but with a bad die roll looming, I can just get all this out into the open.
Avaala the Grey
Trying to use the head start he has, Avaala starts pulling Luther directly into the forest, hoping to get enough lead that the other Slizards won't want to follow, or even see him if he can put enough foliage between them.

Re: Quest #29 “Raiders of the Lost Obelisk”
Triage Time
Sunday, 21st of Goodmonth
Late Afternoon, Hot, Humid, Buggy
The slizard formerly known as Avaala starts pulling Luther into the thick jungle on the outskirts of the clearing just before the pair chasing them arrives. Those two then stand in amazement and confusion when the disguised mage leaves their open area, shouting after him and speaking frantically to each other from only a few feet behind them. Oddly, neither of them enters the underbrush in an attempt to follow, though one looks to be urging the other to do just that. As his spell of understanding expires, the mage hears a few final words from behind him. "How did he? What the? Why wasn't he eliminated by the.....?"
As the stripped body of Paul is unceremoniously dumped into the pit of brown sludge below the cage, Wes starts another of the same wiggling weeds spells, trying to trap Cealwyn like he did with Chauncey. This causes a second patch of vengeful vegetation to appear, trapping most of the enemy right where they stand. Luckily the summoning is quick to cast, because Mr. Wrenly suddenly leaps out at the druid just as he finishes, screeching and hopping around, pointing at his fallen master in anger and frustration. 2 slizards from the first casting and 2 from the second are able to slowly evacuate the prickly patch, moving to safety on the stone platform and the rocky area beyond the hanging cage.
Grimm, Bonnie, and Treasure are all still missing in action, the dwarf in the jungle somewhere, the dragon trapped with the shaman inside the obelisk, and who ever really knows where the mysterious thief is at any given moment.

R.I.P. Paul.
Had big plans for you, kid. Now we'll be remembered as the guys who became fertilizer in the slizard temple.

Re: Quest #29 “Raiders of the Lost Obelisk”
Avaala the Grey
Avaala, remembering that Grimm knows he is in disguise, pulls Luther far enough into the brush to effectively block sight from the Obelisk area. He then calls out loudly, "Grimm!! GRIMM!!" and then waits for a response while he keeps the bugs from eating himself and Luther. "Don't worry, buddy," he mutters. "I'm coming' for you."

Grimm
"Hey! Avaala! I'm here!" whispers Grimm, hiding behind a tree. He looks to where the slizards are, not wanting to confront them.
"Come closer, but watch out, I tied a rope between to trees. Just right here. If the slizards follow you, they'll trip on it.
Let's hope we can take care of Luther. I wasn't so successful hiding Cealwyn, it seems."

Avaala the Grey
Avaala takes advantage of Grimm's preparations and brings Luther to him. "I'm sorry. I have almost no healing skills. It's just nothing I ever picked up in my travels." The mage looks extremely sheepish as he continues. "I think Bonnie and Wes are trying to rescue Chauncey. But Treasure is trapped inside the Obelisk. I can get to him, but I couldn't just leave Luther. The bugs would eat him. Grimm, I hate to ask, but could you please take care of Luther while I go after Treasure? He is.... my friend, and he's trapped."

Grimm
"Oh, no, no problem at all! I was actually expecting you would say that. Wild horse couldn't drag me there." He points to the clearing. "I'll stand guard here and take care of Luther. I hope you get Treasure out of that place! He drags Luther to a dense patch of bushes and crouches next to him once the mage has left for his familiar.

So, I'm guessing that is as much as Grimm and Avaala can accomplish in one round?

Wes
Wes looks at Mr. Wrenly. "I'm sorry Mr Wrenly. There's nothing more I can do right now.
But don't worry. We'll get him out of there. We need to find the others. Come with me" He beckons to the monkey.
Wes decides to pass around the clearing back to spot where he left Avaala and Grimm. He's about to head south, reasoning that it's probably the safest way, since that's where they arrived. After a moment, he turns and heads north instead. "I might as well see what's in that cage on the way," he mutters to himself.
