Please don't take my questions and (poor) suggestions as any type of critique of your suggestions, it's just me being interested in the reasoning.

You guys obviously have a much better knowledge of this stuff than me so I'm happy to let you guys hash it out while I watch and learn.

No worries! I have lots of ideas; every once in a great while one of them actually makes sense. :P What I usually do is draft out the ideas and share them, knowing that it's a draft in need of improvement.

Cool.

Yeah, we are potentially heavy on officers. So I can see the wisdom of sorting out a structure based on skills and worry about ranks later.

We did plan our equipment purchasing around the idea of the three group outlined by The Bindoner, but haven't brought most of our stuff yet. That was based on our estimate that we might expect 10-12 recruits.

This is my first merc game (4th CT game none of which lasted long), Skip's first merc assignment, I am happy to follow whatever is decided because I wouldn't know where to begin with most of this.

I'm trying to reduce the situation where you need two or three separate skills to achieve one "ability".

Perhaps too simplistic but I'm aiming for "If you are doing anything in BD just take a BD test!"

Ta Dah! It is done! :)

So should we merge any DB/Vacc Suit/Zero G skills? It's just that it's possible to be doing zero-g stuff in a vacc suit with isn't BD, or am I wrong? Not trying to be awkward just asking

Technically, VaccSuit and BD are the same in Book 1. In Book 4, BD gives skill with the advanced onboard computers and systems.

This is an interesting and different game for me as well. I played a Marine mercenary in another PbP game, it lasted four real time years. Only about a month in game time, though. Lots of detailed action. :)

What makes this different is the overhead and figuring out the business aspects of everything. I've never done that either.

Tiglath is doing a good job of not making that aspect to onerous, such as having the profits from a running the Bartizan covering salaries and basic costs, so we just have to worry about the military stuff.

So it's just recruitment, troop hierarchy and buying the toys, I mean military kit.

I think we're close to being there, I think we got a good draft for kit, just need to firm it up once we sort out the rest.

Thanks for the above. I'm hoping to leave enough in it for "nuts and bolts" interest without the whole thing becoming a burden.

I might be fixing a problem we don't yet have!

So leave it as is - I'll deal with it via the administration of the test if it ever arises.

Broad solution +ve DMs for any relevant skill!

My internet is flaky. Engineer not available 'til Wednesday. I can walk 1/4 mile to stand outside a closed cafe and grab a connection, but it's not ideal. So, limited posts for a few days. Sorry.

Strangely the connection is suddenly fine. Just as the day ends.....

Should get two opportunities tomorrow.

Tiglath, how long is left on our retainer with the Aslan? We probably want to wait for this to expire before we do any more jobs, also I assume it's going to take a few weeks to sort out recruitment, purchasing and getting the work on the Bartizan started?

Between Inchin and Tarkine I'd rather go for Inchin. I don't fancy getting caught up in Tarkine's indepence fighters. Inchin isn't ideal, oppressive forces, etc, but it's the best of the options in my opinion.

If we went for it I'd want a lawyer to look over the contract to ensure there is no wiggle-room for us to get drawn in to local issues. We are only there to protect the diplomatic party and train the local troops, we don't want to get drawn into suppressing an uprising or policing the locals. Plus there must be a repatriation clause, paid up in advance.

You are in fine favour with the aslan so forsee no problems there.

Your timeline seems correct.

You are not obliged to do anything not in your contract. If you did you'd notionally need the consent of the whole merc unit. Collace Foreign Ministry is willing to underwrite repatriation costs.

I'm more worried about some clause being snuck into the contact so they can get us to do more. Just call me paranoid :-)

I've seen Strikeback, the mercs are always getting shafted ;-)

I'm also sad that Frank not got any medals

Collace Foreign Ministry promise a "boiler plate" standard contract (with no traps). ;)

At least you aren't marked as a traitor to your species and trying to make yourself feel better about it ;)

It's another award Jess doesn't want, really, like the one on her official resume that she doesn't wear the ribbon for.

Still, it may save our hides one day...

Frank likely did. If you have the rolls from CE char gen you could probably work out which ones he would be eligible for by using Book 4.

You would also receive campaign medals for certain wars and for not getting caught commendable long service. ;)
