"Good day, we are seeking master Torthuk Three-Toed. This s Telemachus, a mage, and I am Newton Longville. We come from the Scarlet Principalities to the south. We're seeking to make mutually beneficial connections to mages in the area. We've also come into possession of some enchanted items, and wondered if you might be able to identify them for us"
Torthuk Three-Toed
"Well, you're looking at him." He puts down what he was tinkering with. "I can take a look at these items you've got, tell you what I think. I'm not sure I'll be able to give you much, though. I'm less of the theorist and more of a practical mage, if you get my meaning."

Newton hands the items over "Anything you can tell use is appreciated. As for practical, I've no problem with that, maybe you can show us some of your wares?"

Torthuk Three-toed
Torthuk sucks in his breath. "Oh, I can identify those, I can. The gauntlets, at least. I'm not sure about the amulet. I'd have to look at it closer. Those gauntlets, though, belonged to one of the Watch Captains. She disappeared about a year ago, on patrol to south. Everyone knew about her, and her gloves, because they gave her enormous strength, like an ogre. She lifted a cow one Harvest Festival, she did. Not a small calf, either. Big heifer. You . . . didn't have anything to do with her disappearance, I'm hoping?"
It's the gauntlets and amulet, correct? Anything else?

"I'm sorry to hear that. There were a group of four giants, living to the south, they're now dead. We found the gauntlets on a body, one of many, in the area. Now we know who they were we'll report this to the temple so they can be recover the bodies and lay them to rest."
He pauses "I almost forgot, we have some other things as well. This ring, and some parts I harvested from a chaos-spawn we fought." He opens his backpack and removes the 'black oily' ring and the quills, poison and heart from the 'chaos-eel' they fought. He will explain what the creature looked like and what abilities it had "I did my best with the poison, but I didn't have a good container for it, hopefully it survived the journey"
Hope that's OK slipping those things in. To be honest I'm not sure who has the ring, but as Newton harvested the other items he'd have them, I would assume

Torthuk Three-toed
"I can look at these other items, but, to be perfectly honest, it's a little bit above my level of expertise. I've got some experience in alchemy, and am a powerful wizard in my own right*, but I . . . let's just say I don't devote as much time to the academic side of thing. This chaos thing sounds interesting though. Some type of demonic entity, perhaps? I would certainly be interested in purchasing the quills from you for use as material components. The poison . . . I'd put that away. The priests on Mnencir take a dim view to such things in this city. Is there anything in particular you're looking for?"
*Telemachus is 99% sure this guy is a less powerful magic-user than he is, probably by several degrees.

"I appreciate the warning about the poison. So, what will you give us for the quills? I'm a scout by trade, do you have anything that might assist with that, or perhaps help gain the advantage in combat?"

Torthuk Three-toed
Torthuk looks curiously at the quills and the heart*. "I've never seen anything like these," he says. "I can give you . . . 600 gold for the heart, and 100 gold each for the quills. I don't know that I've got anything that help you directly, sir," he says, "I've got . . . let's see. A few potions of a magical nature, two scrolls, one of which I can't read, and some books that may be of interest."
Note that I'm jumping ahead for Notai. If there's anything else to take care of during the day we can retcon it in.
Fourthmonth, Twentysecondday
The Ruined Jester
6:00 pm
That evening it is the Sisters Three that seek the adventurers out. The three appear much as before. "Where is the deer-woman?" asks the first, "we have discussed what we can tell her," says the second, "and we are ready to have that conversation, for we leave on the morrow," says the third.

"That's certainly and interesting offer., May we take a look at the scrolls and the books?"
So that's 1200gp in total. Does Newton think it's reasonable offer?

Unless they encountered something near the river during shopping or outside the walls when they delivered the ale, they return some time after the 3 women at the inn.
Notai
When the group enter the inn, Notai heads straight to the innkeeper to get a drink. As she waits, she slowly looks around. She stiffens a bit as she spots the trio. She nods and moves to a far corner, Gardo and Wulfka coming along side.
Gardo motions to the three women to join them. Once they convene, Notai talks in a low voice. "It has been many moons since my people fell to a horror that should have stayed undisturbed. What say you to me?"

The Sisters Three
"We are from a place to the north of Isendan, north of your tribe's traditional range," says the first one. "About a year ago we began to receive refugees fleeing from the communities to the south. Human, mostly, but other races, as well," says the second. "Speaking of a great evil that had been unleashed from the ruins of Isendan, and spreading." says the third. "Even the beastmen -- orcs and gnolls, goblins and ogres -- were affected by this, and those that could were fleeing," picks up the first. "Through these refugees we heard tales of what happened, how Men searching for treasures had awakened something deep under the earth," says the second. "Your people, deer-woman, who had guided them there, were slain, all of them, so we thought then," continues the third.
The three women paused, looking at one another. "The oracle at Mnencir is known to us," continues the first. "Our Queen sent us here to ask questions," says the second. "But the answers we received are riddles," finishes the third, "and raise even more questions." The third continues the looping narrative. "We plan on leaving for Beoae in the morning," she says, and the first continues. "We must talk to our Queen," she says, and the second finishes, "our lands can only support so many, and if this evil is truly moving . . ." "How long before it reaches us?" asks the third.

Zellar
Zellar wakes at first light, dons her dervish robes, and greets the day with prayers to Mnencir. Though she has fought these many years for the purpose of Law, the day brings with it a portent of new beginning. She breathes deeply, confident her faith will show her the light, and Mnencir will guide her way.
*~*~*
Zellar prays for the spells (1st) light, protection from evil, augury, (2nd) bless, detect magic, (3rd) dispel magic, (4th) tongues.

Zellar would have heard pretty quickly that strangers from the south are in town. This is a prettybig deal; for the past couple decades, at least, the southern trade route has been closed, and any contact Kimrid has had with the outside world has been west and east, along the Gere river, or to some of the more isolated communities to the north. The southern Principalities were one of the primary customers for the Temple's elite holy warriors.

Zellar
As she breakfasts and goes about the rituals with her sisters and brothers, Zellar's intuition proves right: strangers have come to Kimrid. She gathers what information she can from the other clergy and the visiting faithful who might've caught a glimpse or shared a word with the southerners. Learning that they are staying at The Ruined Jester, she sees to her remaining duties and heads for the inn that evening, determined to learn the southerners' purpose - and if they might have need of her particular skills.

The Ruined Jester
That evening, in the inn, the adventurers notice a woman enter the Ruined Jester. She's dressed in the robes of a dervish of Mnencir, and casts her gaze about the room.

Feargus
After his investigations the previous day at the temple, Feargus recognizes the unmistakable countenance of a dervish. He approaches her hands open mimicking a gesture he saw being used and hoping it is a greeting. "I am Feargus Fireseed, one of the members of an adventuring company in town. May I ask your name?"

Zellar
The dervish returns Feargus's greeting, pleased at the respectful gesture.
"I am called Zellar, a child of Kimrid and servant of Mnencir, blessed be His countenance. I have heard tell of your party and came to see you for myself. What brings you to Kimrid?"

Feargus
"We are all from the South - down near Junction. We cut a trail up here on the request of the Scarlet Prince to escort his chosen envoy to re-establish relations here in Kimrid. While we worked for the Prince and are from his lands, our band is mostly independent. For example, while we are in town I'm trying to get the rest of the group motivated to investigate that tower south of town...Oh but where are my manners...Allow me to also introduce my squire and fledgling bard, Mardan Cy..."
Feargus gestures to a very young man next to him - really hardly more than a boy. "Mardan joined us in Alice because he wanted to see a little more of the world."
