Quest #14 "Hidden Fortress of the Poison Spider Monsters"

Rollo

Rollo senses that the departure of the monster is a good thing. But the vines and branches adding themselves to the webbing makes him mad and he redoubles tearing at them and trying to get loose.

Jaxsen Reiter

Jaxsen looks at the dead spider. "One for the swarm," he says softly. He sees that Feightus is being attended to, so he walks over to the poor Eawad. He picks up the limp body and brings it back to Brother Gilbert. "Is there any particular ceremony that you think he might have wanted observed?" he asks.

Jax is trying to fit in, socially. His opinion of the dead is actually quite neutral. If anyone calls for help (Like Avaala, if his move works out) Jax will drop the dead to save the living.

Avaala climbed up the center of the west wall, all the up to the ceiling, which in this room is 25 feet overhead. (The walls are made up of horizontal logs, with knots and short stubs of branches growing out of them, making them fairly easy to climb, even for a skinny wizard) There is no black goo on the walls of this room.

Rollo was being pulled up to the ceiling, so he is close to Avaala, but a few feet towards the center of the room from the wall. (lets say 5' away) Though still right at the ceiling, 25' overhead. He is basically stuck in the branches and vines that make up the quasi ceiling below the natural canopy of the taller trees above.

If I had any artistic ability whatsoever, I would try to draw a picture.

Nope!! I got it now. I was afraid the ettercap had taken him outside the confines of the walls and wasn't sure where Rollo would fall. So if he falls, it's inside the room and Avaala's plan might work. Thanks!

Maag

Maag listens to Avaala's plan to break Rollo's fall. "Right den" he says, uncoiling his rope, "Let's lash dis around dat big bag o' pus. It'll move easier dan jus' pushin' it."

As he works, he nods over towards Eawad. "Wot we gonna do about 'im? If we leave 'im 'ere, dat thing'll come back an' eat 'im. We gonna carry 'im around wiv us?"

Brother Gilbert

He goes back into the spider room to do what he does best- make beings feel better.

Let us take poor Eawad's body out, and give him an honorable burial. There is nothing more we can do for him. Now, is anyone in need of a healer?

Jaxsen Reiter

Jax tells Brother Gilbert, "We're not done yet. One of the dogs is badly injured and another is stuck in the canopy. We are needed in there." Jax sets down Eawad's body and turns around to go back in.

[Storm11]

Saracen moves over to the Jaxsen and begins to chant.

He casts cure Light Wounds unpon the monk but only a feeble light transfers to the dog.

He shrugs and moves over to the fallen hound Storm is tending.

Kneeling down he scoots the Halfling away officiously and casts a second healing spell upon the dog.

Getting to his feet and brushing off his orange robes the holy champion goes to search the room for further exits.

Judson helps Maags push the spider body into position.

Gramble sits by Feightus side a tear in his eye waiting to see if the healers can help him.

That beast must pay for what it did to eawad

Inside The Wooden Structure
Dead Giant Spider
Freeday, 5th of Goodmonth
Mid Morning, Hot, Humid

Avaala continues trying to calm down poor Rollo, who is still stuck in webs and vines and branches. He calls for the others to push the giant spider under the dog to break its fall. The mage's arms are starting to strain from holding himself up at the top of the wall, some 25' over the floor. He doesn't think he will be able to hold that position for much longer. The dog fights to get its legs free next, but cant seem to break loose from his sticky bonds.

Maag and Judson rig a rope around the dead carcass and slide it across the bloody, ichor stained stone floor, trying to position it directly under the wizards pet. Maag wonders how high the dog will bounce off of the spiders round body once it falls from such a distance. He asks what will be done with the body of the dead thief that Jaxsen is attending, to which Brother Gilbert promises a proper burial.

Saracen shoves the druid and fighter aside so he can heal the dying dog. He lays his hands upon the animal, healing the worst of its wounds and bringing it back to the world of the conscious. Gramble is glad to see that his dog should be ok, thanking the half-orc for saving his life. He proclaims that the spider man will pay for what he has done to Eawad. Saracen then moves to the walls, searching for any other doors that might lead in or out. He finds no such thing, but does again notice the man sized cocoons against 2 walls and, of course, the copper disk sitting on the pegs in the back corner.

Maag

Maag stares up at the entangled dog for a few moments, wracking his brains for an idea. Once again, he draws on his experience as a career criminal.

"Orright lads! Dis is jus' like da time me an' der lads tried to nick der chestful o' gold pieces out o' der third floor window o' der Merchant's Guild.

We whacked a spike into der wall, ran a rope around it, tied der ovver end around der chest an' lowered der chest out der window. We can do the same fing 'ere. 'course we can't tie der rope right around Rollo, but we can loop it an' draw der loop tight enough to slow 'is fall... Mebbe."

Maag grins and looks around at his companions for approval.

"Mind you, der spike did come out a der wall and dropped der chest on der ground. Bleedin' gold went everywhere, woke up der guard and I got a crossbow bolt up..." He trails off, then looks around again. "Look, dat won't 'ere. Rollo's a lot lighter dan gold.... Prob'ly..."

Avaala the Grey

Avaala, seeing the others moving to help Rollo, decides it's time to climb down before he winds up in need of healing himself.

Jaxsen Reiter

Jaxsen sees that almost everyone is involved with one activity or another, leaving no one on watch. He sets Eawad's body against the wall, and readies his halberd, in case anyone or anything attempts to surprise them.

Saracen begins to cut the cocoons of the man sized shapes, doubtful whatever is within will be alive now. He will be prepared to leap backwards in case what’s in there are more spider babies.

See, another disk here! he calls back to the others.

Storm gets to his feet after being roughly pushed over by the half-orc, and goes to kick the ugly beast with his bare foot, before the big numpty calls out about the disk. Seeing the hounds wounds healed somewhat and it returning to consciousness he sets off over to the disk, inspecting it for signs it is a match for the one the companions already carry.

Gramble will pet Feightus and give him some meat from his rations. He will then go investigate he copper disk

Judson goes to provide support for Saracen if something pops out of the cocoons. He has his sword out ready to strike if need be.

I can assist with any further healing. (waits for replys) As to the disk, does it resemble the first one?

He is thinking about whether the location of the two disks has significance. (time to look at picture)

Avaala is glad to see the others willing to help out with his dangling dog. He climbs back down the log wall before his arms give out on him.

Maag tells an interesting tale about a past "job" he was on, but none of his story makes the wizard feel any better about the 20 foot fall his dog is about to take, even with the bloated body of the spider underneath the drop.

While Jaxsen keeps watch over the proceedings, Brother Gilbert asks around again if anyone needs aid, also inquiring about the copper disk that Gramble and Storm pull off the back wall to look over. The disk is the same size as the one given to the good Brother. (still hanging on the last pegs where you left it) The purple colored design on its face is a bit different however, with solid horizontal lines instead of the dashes found on the first disk.

Saracen and Judson begin slicing open the cocoons on the floor, being carful not to disturb any mini monsters that might pop out of them. Inside the sticky wrappings, they find a total of 2 human sized bodies and one animal that looks like it must have been a wild boar. The boar and one body look as if they had been in there for some time, while the second body's envelopment must have been much more recent.

Gramble's friend Jeevus rushes around the room frantically scribbling into his journal, exceptionally glad that he isn't one of the unfortunates in the cocoons.
