The dwarven drums continue to reverberate through the very stone itself, Shortbread still in the chamber above playing to a crescendo. The massive hound, its vicious teeth bared in a rictus of pain, continues to fight on despite the impact of the symbol of pain upon its leathery form. The party focuses on the major opponents before them - the hound of hell and its Goblin King master - letting the dwarven skeletons advance upon them.

Foxy puts a bit of wadding on her arrow and dips it in the last of the flaming oil on the barrels, adding a dramatic effect to her arrow as it flies through the air, striking the goblin king squarely as he stands frozen and immobile on the dais. (-7, fire damage)

The bear and the hell hound both roar at each other, each equally fearless against its foe. Halfpint's arrow catches the hound first (-4), then Baxtaw's bolt of green energy strikes it and rocks it backwards (-6). The Grizzly Woman whoops "Yeeeeooww!" as she leaps, grappling the creature's back and sinking her Good Knife into its side for balance (-5). The leathery pony-sized beast thrashes furiously as it is beset by foes, snapping its teeth at the bear, but both hound and bear are unable to land their own blows. Mors the hound leaps in to snap his jaws on the much larger foe, but the Hound smacks him away harshly with its paw. Mors lands unconscious about 15 feet outside of the melee. Clay intones his prayers, calling upon the might of Beith and her power over the mammals of this prime material plane to freeze the limbs of the horrific creature. He finds, however, that the very nature of the creature eludes him, the magic not penetrating as he wills it to do so: the creature is wholy not of this world, summoned from the depths of Hell to provide its service to the goblin king and not a real mammal.

The skeletal dwarven warriors descend upon the flanks of the party. Heavily ornamented helms and chainmail suffering the passage of centuries adorns their bodies, the dry, brittle remains of their braided beards below the holes of eye sockets now blank and empty. It is unnerving, seeing the armor denoting the honored dead now adorning these unholy ranks. They advance, undeterred by mystical sigils or resounding drums, their axes cleaving into the party's ranks. Out-numbering the party four to one, there is no way the party can avoid the stroke of every axe blade, though they try mightily. Two of the skeletal dwarves march heedlessly through the burning oil barrels, scorching themselves as the bone-dry cloth on their legs catches and flares within the armor. (-6, -1) One axe bites into Clay's side as he finishes his incantations. (-7) The flanking archers face the most, Baxtaw getting caught by two dwarven axe blades (-4, -2), leaving him moderately wounded against the foes and Halfpint (-5) who is caught by one axe as she wields her bow instead of her shield, the remaining dwarven blades turned away by her dwarven banded mail. Another group of skeletons hones in on the melee, swarming the combatants there. One glancingly catches the Grizzly Woman as she clings to the Hound's back (-1) while two others drive their blades into Huckleberry the Bear (-8, -5) as he struggles against the hell hound. Huckleberry roars in protest as great rents appear in his fur and collapses on the stone floor.

Next round!

With the angst and anger accessible only to teenagers, Clay turns on the skeletons nearest himself and Halfpint. Through a clenched jaw, he demands the unnatural constructs to flee into the shadows, holy symbol in his staff hand. He sees blood dripping from his wound, fueling his fury. The prayer is simple. Go AWAY!!!

Walking toward Ms. O'Hare, he holds a scroll out for Hher (or anyone, really), to grab. It's a Fear scroll. We've got to use it on the hound! Read it and then touch him. He then sets out toward the Goblin King.

Initiative [1d6] = 5
Flee Abominations! [2d6] = 5, HD Turned [2d6] = 9

Any notion of how long Morr is out for? "Unconscious" sounds like a long time.

Since the skeletons came from multiple doors, I was hoping Clay could somehow separate the skeletons into multiple, smaller groups while turning them. (So he can try turning more next turn.) Is that possible? (I am guessing no, but wanted to be sure.)

Can Clay see the Fingers of Zhint on the Goblin King? That is what he is going after by advancing on him. If Foxy doesn't take the scroll, he'll offer it to Baxtaw.

Remove Fear (reversible)
Level: 1
Duration: 2 turns
Range: Touch
...The subject receives a saving throw bonus of +1 per level of the caster... Cause fear (reverse of remove fear ) will cause a subject who is touched to run away, hysterical, at full running movement for a number of rounds equal to the caster's level.

Yes, I'll let you turn them in two groups; left flank and right flank, per the doors they came from.

Clerical scrolls can only be used by clerics; Clay can't pass that one off.

"Unconscious" will be a round or two, per normal fumbling.

Clay notices the worn black leather pouch on the Goblin King's belt as being the one that once held the Fingers of Zhint.

Halfpint is basically down to her last breath, if anyone can save her. Cant folks see her poor halfling blood oozing out of her?

Halfling looks for a way to defensively retreat from the battle. (options beyond straight fleeing?)

Hoping Halfpint is near him, Clay turns the group of skeletons nearest to himself. He uses his staff to shield himself and the halfling from the remaining skeletons. He shouts to the others about the pouch.Ms. O'Hare and Baxtaw! We need to get the pouch from the King's belt! Destroy it in the fire!

A protection spell (from good or evil) will work vs the hound, at least shielding the castor from its touch if it is a summoned creature.

Shortbread should stop the drumming and also run in now battle has reached a critical time, otherwise he might still be playing as the Titanic slips under.

Foxy O'Hare I tried to picture the scene as described. With the skeletons climbing over the blazing barrels and attacking from the flanks and the hellhound pinned in melee with Clay, Mors and Huckleberry and Grizzly that a central corridor is open for Foxy to run from between the fish barrels and stuck scythes to engage the goblin king in melee. That being so she would run to the king and twist his held flaming sword and stick it through him, whispering into his ears, "This is for Annabel and Clarabelle, you bleep, f*$&£$, bleep mothaf%^**r!>".

If not she will still mouth off as only the lady can and fire another arrow, Foxy: Shortbow short range: [1d20+3] = 12+3 = 15 arrow damage: [1d6] = 3 (4 dam with drums)

Halfpint will fire an arrow at whomever happens to attack her (or who acts like they might :) ) as she retreats.
Shortbow [1d20+3] = 14+3 = 17; [1d6+1] = 5+1 = 6

Just to keep things moving, I rolled for Clay turning the second batch of skeletons. The first half of the roll is moot since it is an auto turn. 11 HD worth of skeletons flee.
Flee Abominations! [2d6] = 8, HD Turned [2d6] = 11

The Grizzly Woman whoops and hollers with wild, mountainous abandon. She lets go of her knife and grips the Grizzly's Trunk in both sweaty hands. Bringing the giant branch over her head, she swings it back around at the hellhound.

PbP Forum code: The Grizzly's Trunk (provides -1AC vs natural weapons) [1d20+2] = 13+2 = 15, damage [1d10+2] = 10+2 = 12

You don't have a means to communicate to Shortbread that he should stop drumming. Halfpint can hide freely after spending the round withdrawing. It takes a round for Foxy to run to the dais in the large chamber and she can take the sword and stab (coup de grace) on the second round. I'll add an NPC roll for Baxtaw.

Foxy shoulders her bow and grips her shield, doing a bull-rush to break free of the skeletal horde and rush the Goblin King where he stands frozen on the dais. She leaps forward, smacking aside the first well-aimed axe with her shield, and begins to run. Two of the skeletons strike home, catching her in the back as she flees them. (-2, -7) She sprints across the floor and leaps up onto the dais, face to face with her nemesis.

The Grizzly Woman whoops and hollers with wild, mountainous abandon, bringing her sturdy tree trunk down across the massive hell hound's back. There is a loud crack - not of the trunk, but of the hound's spine - and the beast collapses to the ground in a broken heap under her muscular blow, its body lying next to that of Huckleberry the grizzly bear, unmoving on the cavern's polished floor. (-12 hp, Hell Hound down) She continues swinging the tree to keep the skeletal horde at bay, protecting both herself and the prostrate Huckleberry, only catching a glancing blow on her leather-clad body from one of their number (-2hp).

Baxtaw shoulders his longbow under the onslaught of the skeletons, drawing the dark, rune-engraved steel of his longsword. The blade sings through the air as he whips it around at his skeletal foes, digging hungrily through their rent armor. There is a sucking sound and a visible collapsing blackness as the skeleton practically implodes on the blade, the bones collapsing to dust and armor around the blade. (-9hp, One skeleton down) He fights ferociously against the entire right flank of the skeletal dwarves alone, one of their axes catching him hard as he parries two others. (-8hp)

Clay Weatherwax steps boldly forward to face the undead horde, brandishing the symbol of Eruanna as he protects Halfpint. Halfpint, grievously wounded and frightened, falls back behind Clay and looses a shaft. Her arrow fells a skeleton in the horde as she retreats to the rear fish barrels, (One skeleton down) now able to hide her tiny form (as only a hobbit can) at the cavern's entrance while her companions face the deathless faces of the armored dwarves. Morrs stirs where he lies, safely beyond the undead horde for the moment, groggily getting back onto his paws.

Clay Weatherwax, the tender teenage boy not yet able to grow a beard, stands before the oncoming rush of the rictus faces of the skeletal dwarves. "Go AWAY!!!" he yells, the power of Eruanna flowing through him. There is a faint glow of warm yellow light in the depth of the cavern, a whiff of loamy soil, and five of the skeletons turn to break and run before the cleric's spiritual might. The rest of the left flank, however, redoubles their focus on him. His form seems suddenly frail, clad in its own dwarven chain but unable to turn away the fierce axe blows that cleave into his head, his body, his chest. He completely disappears as he falls under the onslaught of the horde, both he and his Banner of Pain lost from sight as the skeletons literally pile atop him. (Three critical hits, one regular hit, total of -39hp)

Light: Braziers in the King's Chamber
Spell effects: Sleep spell on archers until 2:20pm; Goblin King held until 2:40pm; Banner of Pain until 3:40pm; Dwarven drums ongoing

With her enemy defeated, The Grizzly Woman turns to face the skeleton menace and attempts to protect herself as she moves to rejoin the group around the barricade of rolling barrels.

Are any of the barrels still flaming at this point? If so, she'll try to kick one into some skeletons. If not, she'll just attack normally, first preferring those skeletons who are after her, then skeletons that are coming after a surviving neighbour. Either way she sits tight in a defensive position, trying to reform a line using barrels for cover.

The Grizzly's Trunk (provides -1AC vs natural weapons) [1d20+2] = 9+2 = 11, damage [1d10+2] = 6+2 = 8

Foxy O'Hare

Grabs the flaming sword of the goblin king and thrust him through, seizing his crown and the pouch of finger bones. If she can she will turn the body to use him as a shield from any attacks or arrows coming her way.

What is the current foe list? Just the skeletons? And how many are still actively fighting? Halfpint probably needs to sacrifice herself for another shot or two.

Baxtaw invokes his sorcerous powers, firing his eldritch bolt at the King's waistline. The bolt disintegrates the pouch, a whiff of bone dust released simultaneously as Foxy takes the flame-limned sword and plunges it through the Goblin King's chest. The King's body crackles around the sword, the color draining from the previously-vibrant flesh. He slides off the blade to the ground, visibly desiccating as his life force leaves him.

A wave of invisible energy blows through the massive cavern, rippling outward from the dais through the body hairs of every living creature. The animating energy of each skeleton dissipates as the wave hits them, each of the armored combatants collapsing into a bone heap as it expands outward.

The drums continue to reverberate through the chamber, which otherwise finds itself abruptly silent, only the party members remaining living or animate in the main throne chamber.

Morr pads to the now-still druid. He sniffs and whimpers at his friend's decimated corpse.
