Raffi offers to look it over also, examining it for traps.
Two heads are better than one he says amiably.
Hex will return from his perch as the dragons fly away.
He will give the chest a cursory look over to see if there are any runes upon it.
Then the gnome will step way back.

Nah Olos "The dragon and hybrids flew west. Their horde of minions are east. So our options are north or south; but how fast do they fly? Seems to be faster than we walk. Options?"

Hex thinks on it and nods.
It may be our best, and only, shot, to take out the dragons horde whilst it isn’t around. We cannot actually pay the creature as we don’t have what it wants. So our options are either give up and go home or take the fight to it’s lair! Or is there a third option we aren’t seeing?
The gnome looks at the others for thoughts. If we are going to try and sleep, you will need to cast hallucinatory forest again at the very least to keep us concealed. Or Garrant can teach me Massmorph and I will cast that upon us when we return.

"Once we are done with the chest I say we go after the horde, if they are not going to give us any rest we should at least make use of the time." She says with a grin.

In the Jotens - Second Watch - Planning Session
Second Watch Starday, 8th day of Planting, 597
3rd day since leaving Loftwick
Qleceec (AC 1, HP 48/63)
Androgost (AC -6, HP 55/65, Armor 21/26)
Nah Olos (AC 4, HP 46/53)
Siouxsie (AC 2, HP 33/48)
Garrant (AC 8, HP 24/50)
Hex (AC 5, HP 19/27)
Raffi (AC 6, HP 16/21)
Boff (AC 5, HP 49/61)
Franny (AC 4, HP 26/26)
Hex lets the group know about the chest and Hex, Raffi, Boff, Qleceec and Siouxsie check it out. Hex looks for runes (but does not see any), Boff and Raffi both look for traps, but find none. The Boff thinks about picking the lock, but quickly realizes that there is not one. The chest is finally open and other being a well made reinforced chest it is empty. The only damage to the chest is scratched into the inside are four letters "T O L L"
The discussion takes a turn towards attacking the dragon right now, Androgost says "If that is to be the course of action does anyone need healing and can anyone supply it before we charge?"

Hex and Raffi put their hands up. We need some they say together, before catching each other and having a giggle.

"I have a spell to enlarge, that will make someone more formidable in battle. I have a single minor healing spell and some potions. All together the equivalent of 5 minor spells. Once that is used I have nothing else. Who else has healing? "

Siouxsie
"Well, this attack on the camp scared the horses shitless judging by the muck they dropped." she will take an entrenching tool or spade to rake up the horse muck and piling the dung into the chest, perhaps leaving her own deposit before shutting the lid.
Until I can complete my morning devotions, I am spell short from yesterday's casting, which includes the Cure ones. She has a healing potion but I like to keep those to address specific need and I know the druid 'assume animal form' skill allows her to reduce physical damage, receiving a certain % of lost health back but I don't like to just morph on the basis it will get me +10hp.

I don't think we've had enough sleep to get any spells back. We've been kept awake for the first two shifts, there is only one shift left and that is not long enough. The house rules say we need 8 hours to recover spells and abilities

There will be some rolls involved if you wanted to get spells back now, and there would be a significant risk of not getting your full complement back for the day if the group studied/prayed now.
Here is the house rule so you can see the weigh the risks. If one sleeping watch is interrupted roll 3d6 vs the spell casters primary stat (INT/WIS), two sleeping watches is interrupted 4d6, getting half your sleep is 5d6, getting no sleep no chance. If you make the roll, all good. For every point that you miss the roll you lose one spell for the day. How is this random spell determined? Assume you have 4 1st, 3 2nd, 3 3rd and 2 4th (for a total of 12 spell) The player would get to roll d12 (1-4 1st, 5-7 2nd, 8-10, 3rd, 11-12 4th) and then a d11 if they lost a second etc.
Those with third watch would have to roll 4d6 vs the primary stat (INT/WIS) and would get all of the spells back if they make the roll and would lose a random one for each point they miss by. The spell casters that had first watch get to make this on 5d6 (with Garrant rolling twice being dual classed)
Complaining from the players about not being fair, etc. - 8 hours or no spells period.

Hex nods. I have some healing potions as well. But unlike curing spells once they are gone they are gone. Whatever happens, we have to make an actual decision about what to do and then get on with doing it. Either we take the fight to the lair or we retreat back a few days to rest and recover, and come back all the stronger and with a knowledge of what actually awaits us now.

Raffi (AC 6, HP 16/21)
Boff (AC 5, HP 49/61)
Franny (AC 4, HP 26/26)
Limited healing (other than a few potions) is admitted to, but several could use it. Garrant mentions that he is low on spells at the moment (and Siouxsie has previously mentioned this as well).
Siouxsie collects horse dung (and some of her own) and places that in the chest.
Hex asks the group to make a decision "Either we take the fight to the lair or we retreat back a few days to rest and recover, and come back all the stronger and with a knowledge of what actually awaits us now."
Androgost says, "We are going to take on the dragon either now or soon. Tactically, I will recommend the retreat and kill the dragon in a day or two since I think we have more healing magic than the dragon's forces. But as Hex mentioned the other option is attack right now. But I will hold it to a vote of all the members with a full share." (that means one vote per player - no henchpersons)

Vote is for retreat and regain some hp and spells.

Hex looks at Raffi, who merely shrugs.
With a sigh the illusionist puts up his small palm and says I too vote to retreat and return when we can make a plan and prepare our magics accordingly!

Boff Aye. We are a bit exposed here, regrouping seems clever.
