[003] Into the War Camp
Re: [003] Into the War Camp
I'll just roll attacks for Eiji and Ha.
Turn 2, Phase 12
Turn 2, Phase 10
Souta pivots and strikes again at the standing foe's flank as Toshizo provides distraction. (-3)
Turn 2, Phase 9
As Souta's blade slips free of the axe-wielder's flesh, Toshizo comes across with a swift strike, slicing the creature across the throat with a red spray of droplets. (-5) The muscular bakemono-sho tips, dropping to the ground limp.
Turn 2, Phase 6
Hearing the cackling of the hag and seeing the Dai-Bakemono enter the cavern at the edge of the light, Eiji stills himself. He invokes the Buddhas, forming his hands into the shape of the necessary Mudra and abjuring against the potent foes.
Souta deftly shifts her weight to thrust her blade tip into the prone bakemono-sho (-7).
Turn 2, Phase 5
"Ki=yaaa!" yells Ha, bringing down his blade on the prone foe and beheading it with a single, mighty, clean stroke. (-9)
Turn 2, Phase 4/3
Both of the axe-wielding vanguard cut down bloodily before they landed a stroke, Souta and Toshizo both assume a ready position, prepared for the oncoming horde...
Turn 2, Phase 2
...and the horde of stunted bakemono-sho arrives, screaming their challenge and wielding their wakazashi as they clash with the line of bushi! While the axe-wielding vanguard went for Ha, not expecting their immediate failure and demise, the others charged around them to reach Toshizo and Souta. The first two use the momentum of their charge and thrust their swords, one each at Toshizo and Souta. One blade clashes off Toshizo's metal armor, the other blade is deflected by Souta's expert swordsmanship and only results in a trivial slice along her bicep, a trickle of blood on her sleeve. (-2)
The second rank of bake stop short, striking through their peers - one at Toshizo, one at Souta, two over the dead bodies of their companions to strike at Ha. The rushing creatures, uncoordinated and in each other's way, find themselves all missing their targets as they squabble for position. Only the last one to the south, unhindered, strikes an inconsequential strike against Ha's wrist. (-1) The last two squawk in outrage, unable to get close enough to strike, shoving their fellows instead as they all struggle to get at the three armored Bushi in a line, blocking the tunnel.
Turn 3, Phase 12
The thrill of the charge now past, the bakemono-sho clamber for position, the front row realizing their trapped against their foes with their allies pressing them forward as human shields. One on the north end is trampled by his companions as they squeeze around the outside, now knocked to the ground and dazed. The others spread out, filling in to the south so they're all close enough to poke a thrust with their narrow blades. The prepared Bushi parry away their pokes and jabs skillfully, until one stabs mightily at the stalwart Ha from the back rank and catches a gap in his lacquered wood plates - a blow that might have been fatal to a less hearty man. (-6)
From the back of the cavern at the edge of the light, you hear a harsh, dissonant chanting. Seeing the disarray among his less worthy forces, the Dai-Bakemono extends his arms towards you. He is briefly illuminated in full light as four lances of flame leap forth, flying across the cavern at you! It is the first time the rest of you see clearly the foe who waged the magical duel against Taka, unseen in the Kakuri-yo.
One dissipates harmlessly in the air, unable to approach the placidly-praying Eiji, his fingers formed into mudras. The other four descend on the front line bushi, threatening to break them into disarray and grant the advantage to the horde of warty small monstrous foes....
Everyone:
Post the rolls requested above, then proceed with your turn 3!
Hit Points | Power | Turn Order |
---|---|---|
Ha 20 / 41 (-1, -6) Toshizo 24 / 24 Souta 15 / 19 (-2) Taka 0 / 9 (subdual, unconscious) Eiji 11 / 11 Jīva 10 / 10 |
Taka 0 / 38 Eiji 0 / 28 |
Turn 2, Phase 12
Toshizo and Souta both strike at the still-standing axe-wielder - he dodges Souta's blade but opens himself to Toshizo's strike (-7), a grievous wound. Then the Bake are upon you! There is a moment of trepidation at the sheer number of foes pouring into the circle of light cast by your propped paper lanterns, the mishappen, but thankfully unarmored, creatures of the night filling the cavern.
The two in the vanguard, both carrying masakari axes, are close enough already to reach you. By virtue of the line you've chosen, Ha stands within easiest reach and they both rush to swing at him, concentrating their attacks on the thickly-muscled bushi. The first trips on a protrusion on the cavern floor and hits the ground, hard! He is dazed as his companion rushes onward to Ha, swinging his axe but missing in his frustration at arriving alone. Eiji swings his shovel between the shoulders of his friends due to its length, but misses the bake.
Souta pivots and strikes again at the standing foe's flank as Toshizo provides distraction. (-3)

Re: [003] Into the War Camp
(Mistake on my part... Spell Shield costs Eiji 1 power and he spent every point of power before entering the cave. I will allow him to have used it last round (that's on me) and he needs a non-powered action for next round.)
Also... new map.
Also... new map.
Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Toshizo
Will ST [1d20]=9 Takes 9 HP damage.
2nd Will ST [1d20]=18 Ignites.
[1d10+1]=7+1=8 Armor catches fire.
I'm not sure what Toshizo's Turn 3 action should be. Is there the option of trying to put out the fire? Maybe with water from a water flask?
Also, Toshizo's base AC should be 5 rather than 7. He had to reduce weight by going to partial heavy samurai armor. I checked and all of the bakemono-shos' attacks still missed with this AC.

Re: [003] Into the War Camp
...catching fire is bad. The good news is that it burns out when your armor is totally destroyed.
Toshizo suffers 3hp fire damage in Turn 3.
Toshizo 12 / 24 (-9, -3)
Toshizo fire damage [1d3]=31119.0 FIRE
* For each application of fire, roll 1d10+1. If the result is higher than their AC, then clothing/armor is ignited. It does 1d3 lethal damage.
& On each turn the armor is burning it reduces AC by 1d3 and does 1d6 lethal damage. It burns until AC is 0.
"A character whose clothing or armor has caught fire may attempt to extinguish it by falling to the ground and rolling about for a full Detailed Turn. A Deftness Saving Throw will extinguish the flames. Help from friends will increase the Saving Throw by 1 per helper, up to 3. Use of a cloak, sand, or a gallon or water will add 5 to the Deftness Saving Throw."
Toshizo suffers 3hp fire damage in Turn 3.

Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Toshizo tries not to panic at being trapped in o-yoroi set afire by a dai-bakemono's infernal flames. He remembers a day's training in the dojo and drops to the ground and rolls, still holding his katana, with the flat of the blade held against his leg.
Deftness 25, ST is 8 + level = 9. [1d20]=10 Ouch. And 1d3 damage to AC. I suppose that's a GM roll.

Don't forget that choosing to be prone gives a +5 BCS to all strikes at you...
Souta fire damage [1d3]=3Samwell Turleton wrote: ↑Mon Jan 03, 2022 9:33 pm Will ST (4) [1d20]=7
Will ST (4) [1d20]=7
Damage [1d10]=10+1
Souta takes 6hp from the fire arrow, then 3hp in Turn 3 as her kimono burns.
Souta 6 / 19 (-6, -3)
What does she do?
Re: [003] Into the War Camp
I missed that about the +5 to BCS, but I'll stay with Toshizo rolling to put out the fire. He's a pretty gutsy kid, but not enough to fight while burning alive. (Also, Japanese historically have a real phobia about fire. Probably because every time there was a strong earthquake, a fire would break out and half of a city would burn down. Those wood and paper houses are highly flammable).

Re: [003] Into the War Camp
In my character sheet I have Eiji as having 15 power left, but I might be off in my accounting.
Re: [003] Into the War Camp
I think you spent that in this post.
None of that expenditure worked, and starting the adventure with 0 Power impedes our goal of learning the system and seeing what Eiji can really do. I am fine retconning all those failures.
That leaves you with 15, -1 for the current round of Spell Shield, now 14.

Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Sounds good, did you account for the spell shield has medium range (5 yard radius) and thus should protect the others?Marullus wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 2:30 pm I think you spent that in this post.

There isn't anything I can Exorcise right? Assuming not, Spell Shield again.
Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Good, I guess I had read that the first time yesterday and then didn't read close this morning...
Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Looking for actions from Souta and Ha, and saves for Ha. It looks like Mac is Back, so I'll give to the weekend?

Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Souta steps back into the tunnel a pace and presses her flaming kimono against the cave wall, rolling her body back and forth against the stone wall. She will recover her bow and attempt to restring the bow.
Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Ha:
Will save+1 [1d20]=11 fail 6 damage
Will save [1d20]=8 fail ignition
Armor [1d10]=8 armor catches fire

Re: [003] Into the War Camp
Ha will attempt to grapple the nearest monster.

Welcome back, Mac! You're just in time for another "We're all going to die" moment.

This tickles me immensely! I'm glad I waited for you to post.
Honestly, I am terrified to write this post because I don't want to find out if you all are still alive at the end of it!
