Garrett "By capture I do not mean to take with us I merely meant tie them up and leave them here stripped down with no weapons or armor." he smiles sarcastically after speaking.

Baruch, to group members: "I have enough faith in Calen's judgment of this Mysterious Mallet of Magog not being evil. I wish to try it out on evil; but it is untested.... if Guth does not guide me, please stop me if using it in upcoming battle is a bad idea?"

Calen hefts his halberd, still untested after taking it from the dead Orc Chieftain, "Mine too."

Can any of us pick out elves from amongst the others around the fire?

Svent might be able too since he has infravision and is half elf.

The party employs their looking glass. They look for the elves. It is difficult to make out detail but 4 men appear shorter than most.
The party waits and observes and within a half an hour the men start making bed rolls.
The party suspects that 2 of the elves are sleeping near the fire. The other 2 elves disappear into the darkness.
It appears that 2 elves and 1 or 2 men are currently on the 1st watch.
I allow infravision to project 120'. The party is 80' out of infravision range. As Baruch and Svent approach they will be able detect heat signals -- so too can the elves with the army.

Risk it, get low to the ground and move like an animal. From a long ways the heat signature will look like an animal.
get their positions so archers can take them out, then move in.

I agree with MW have our 2 move in at the level of a 4 legged animal so as to attempt to throw off the other 2 elves.

Freki also moves about the area, searching for the Elves.

Baruch's infravision is overloaded by the camp fire heat source, he finds it somewhat difficult to sort out other shapes around it

Night Attack
The party is confident and plans an attack on the soldier camp.
Baruch and Svent crawl into the woods to find the elf or elves with infravision.
The remainder of the party makes weapons ready.
The plan, it appears, is to locate the elves and then infiltrate the camp and fight the soldiers by their own firelight.

Baruch and Svent creep forward and can see the glow of an elf -- just one. Baruch snaps a twig and the mage and priest suspect the elf is looking at them.
They hear a voice say Ersidus! This is the elvish word for "bear".
It appears the elf thinks the men are bears.
There is some noise and shuffling about in the camp as the presence of bears puts the men on guard.
Someone begins to bang pots and pans -- it appears they are trying to scare away the bears.
Baruch and Svent are 110 feet from the camp. The rest of the party hangs back another 40 feet.

Let them think we are bears, circle back as if they are scaring you away while Freki and maybe someone else sneaks up and takes them out, this plan cool with everyone? Once one goes down I assume the place will go to hell fast so we might as well creep up the other side of the camp while the elves are distracted with the "bears".

Titus agrees with Calen's assessment, and will "creep" up towards the camp beside him.
I figure as soon as one of them hears us coming, we can charge them. If anybody else has missile weapons, that would be a good signal to fire.

Ok then. Should we all creep up together or come at them from multiple sides? Montego will creep up wherever he is needed. It is a good night to die.

Re: Queen Regeina's Ethical Philosophers Depart.
Svent putting on his best Bear impersonation stretches out his hand acting like he is pawing at a bush and silently fires a Magic Missile at the elf that was talking. Magic Missile[1d4 +1] = 1+1 = 2 then moves off into the woods like a bear circling back towards the others.
Garrett unable to see in the dark will stay low and do his best at moving silently. Thief Skill Checks[1d100] = 58

I guess it doesn't really matter? long as we don't spread out too much that we can help each other when we need it. We aren't facing an army but it's still quite a few guys.OGRE MAGE wrote:Ok then. Whadat, attack already started? Then the first thing Baruch does is to cast a Bless spell on as many of our party as possible within reach. After that, he carefully muffles Te Kang with a soft silk string, then brings out the Mysterious Mallet of Magog, weighs it in his hands and prepares for battleSvent(...)silently fires a Magic Missile

Camp Pandemonium
Banging and clattering can be heard as the soldiers attempt to scare away the bears. Then the cry wolves, wolves! can be heard. It appears that Freki has been seen and has created confusion.
Titus grips a spear and looks at Montego,Sanu and Calen. The men give each other a knowing nod. Titus can see a look of apprehension on the ranger's face. But Montego knocks and arrow and creeps into the woods at the same time as the others. Calen grips his halberd with anticipation and advances. Garrett creeps in behind them and they begin to fan out through the trees, creating a semi circle around the soldier camp.
Milli hangs back with her bow, wanting to be armed but not wanting to engage. The elf girl is timid, the party noticed this long ago.
Garrett has Agent Blab at his side. Blab says, Garrett, you guys are now my mission. Arm me. I'll help.
Further up, in the woods Baruch intones Bless. All party members are within range. The priest pulls the hammer off of his back. Then he tends to his little bird.
Svent creeps forward about 30 feet and launches magical energy into the heat signature of the elf.
Arrrrrgggg!!!
The elf screams in pain.
A voice says wolves don't do that!
Suddenly the camp fire swells as men are throwing fuel on it.

The clang of swords and shields can be heard amid shouts and orders.
Soldiers appear in the fire light, standing atop the ox carts, seeking a better view.
Random points of light appear as torches are lit and men move about.
Two arrows pierce the ground next to Svent. He can smell the Valley Elf on the fletchings.

As Calen, Garrett, Blab, Sanu, Montego and Titus begin to encircle the chaotic camp, Baruch and Svent begin to see 4 figures within their infravision range -- all of the elves, they suspect.
There is more of them! A voice cries. Another voice yells, I count seven!
The elves are 60 feet from the camp fire. Svent is 80 feet from the elves, Baruch is 110 feet from the elves. The rest of the party is spread out in the 110 ft range.
