Frobozz, the map I gave you isn't that accurate, so give me a couple of days and I'll add on to the hex map I've been keeping.

Re: OOC
Spells from scrolls may be scribed into spellbooks, automatically (and at half the time needed to learn the spell) but the magic stored in the scroll is lost after the fact. Essentially, you're giving up one thing (the ability to cast one extra spell by reading the scroll) for another (gaining an additional spell in your book).
Re: OOC
When he gets a chance, Tratiln will just glance over the map of the Rockhome underdark to see if there is anything of interest on it
Re: OOC
@TK: I am assuming that we will ultimately be able to share any spells from these spellbooks/scrolls with each other once the spells are scribed into our own spellbooks (ie., by studying the spellbooks of the other party members as we have been doing thus far). If I am wrong about that, please let me know.
@Drudsa and the Elves: Lanny will scribe and then share the Shield and Invisibility spells from his scroll with the others spellcasters, assuming that the above statement is correct.
Edit - Or else Lanny could give the scroll to Drudsa to scribe, and then learn the spells from Drudsa's spellbook. Either way.

No problem! I have been trying to use the "Player's Notes" thread for adding little clues that we'll probably need for future reference, and the "Plot Hooks" thread for actual missions/adventures that we can act upon immediately if we so choose. In both cases, it might be best to make entries in them like in a journal (with headings so as to make entries easier to find later), and to keep the threads as free of OOC comments as possible.Bouv wrote:Thanks frobozz, I'm been mostly computerless most of the day and last night! Re: OOC
Alright, I know there are some things for me to address, which I will do so now (or attempt to, at least):
@zebediah and rremedio. I still have to deal with your spell study chances from today/previous evening. I have not forgotten.
@Luis. Weapon damage at Basic proficiency can be found on page 52. At 1st level thieves have 2 "Weapon Feats" which must be spent on two different weapons. You had originally picked "Sling" and "Dagger" to have at Basic proficiency. Any other weapon Saul uses is treated as being "unskilled". So, he is technically "Unskilled" with the bow. However! He has now reached third level and can train either to improve his proficiency in one weapon or gain Basic proficiency in another weapon (such as the bow he just purchased). Make sense?
@everyone. I have added some rules to the House Rules section regarding weapon training. It essentially emulates the spell study rules in that it enables people to practice for short periods each day in order to improve, or in big chunks of time. Let me know if there are any questions.

Re: OOC
I'm thinking about hiring a henchman, now that I'm 3rd level. I don't think we need any more firepower, considering the size of the party, but an extra healing spell would be nice to have around. And since clerics don't get spells until 2nd level, might as well start as soon as possible.
Anyone opposed to the idea?

Re: OOC
Both Drudsa and Meagnor are successful at learning the spells they are studying (Charm Person and Sleep, respectively) after the fourth hour of studying on this day.
Re: OOC
I started thinking again about a name for our adventuring company, perhaps something that could even be used to introduce us at the festival. "Threshold's Thrashers" popped into my head as a possible starting moniker.
I think we could actually take on many different monikers over the course of our adventuring careers, as we complete more quests and become more well known.
If and when it goes public that we are hunting for Bargle, then I wouldn't mind adding the moniker "Bargle's Bane" that Drudsa suggested.

Drudsa will go around town throwing charm spells at random. Shortly we'll have an army of followers!

Re: OOC
I will wrap up loose ends shortly; I believe we are all done with shopping -- or almost done -- and as it stands now Bregalad, Lanny and Tratiln have all expressed interest in the archery competition. Everyone else seemed fairly ambivalent about the contests, so unless there is something I missed we'll do the archery then move on.
Re: OOC
@TK: Since we are wrapping up the shopping soon, I will just ask you OOC:
What is the cost of the wolfsbane offered by Oleg Highstreet?
What is the cost of pen-and-ink supplies needed for scribing scrolls? Is there a simple "per-spell-scribed" cost for such supplies? (not found in DD Rulebook)
What is the cost of a scroll case, and could a scroll case also be used as a spyglass case? (not found in DD Rulebook)
Were there any books/literature for sale on the Grand Duchy of Karameikos (with information similar to what might be found in the D&D gazetteers)?
And lastly, if these items are not available at the Gnome Caravan, could any of the above be found in stores in Threshold?

Re: OOC
1. As per the ACKS rulesbook, Wolfsbane costs 10 gp per pound (10 cn) and does the following:frobozz wrote:@TK: Since we are wrapping up the shopping soon, I will just ask you OOC:

Belladonna also costs 10 gp per pound (10 cn) and does the following:Wolfsbane (dried aconite flowers) may drive off werewolves and other lycanthropes if a character strikes
the monster in hand-to-hand combat with the sprig. If the lycanthrope fails a saving throw versus Poison, it must flee as
if turned. A character who eats wolfsbane must make a saving throw versus Poison or die after one turn.
2.It costs 75 gp per level of spell to be added to your spellbook. A 2nd level spell, therefore, would cost 150 gp to add. This assumes there's a goodly amount of expensive inks, rare quills and material components. Please note that adding a spell to your spellbook is the same as learning a spell. Therefore, Lanny can add the spells from the scrollbook, following the same rules for learning a spell. Please note that the process of scribing a spell from a scroll into a spellbook uses up the magic in the scroll.Belladonna, also known as deadly nightshade, is a poisonous flower. A character who eats a pound of belladonna
within one hour of being infected with lycanthropy may make a saving throw versus Poison to shake off the affliction. If the
character fails the saving throw, however, he dies from the poison after one turn. Even if the poison is then neutralized or
the character is raised from the dead, he will still be afflicted with lycanthropy, and further doses of belladonna will be of no use.
3.Let's say a scrollcase costs 5 gp. This will hold one scroll, is waterproof and weighs 5 cn. Lanny is able to find an oversize scrollcase that will work to hold the spyglass for 10 gp.
4.No such books were available in the caravan, nor in Threshold (at least not for sale. It is likely there may be such a book in a private collection. It is rumored that Myraal, the Guildmage, is something of an authority on the Duchy, especially the pre-Thyatian period). It is also possible that such books could be found in a larger city; remember that Threshold is a fairly small, frontier town.

Bregalad was not planning on entering the Archery contest, but let's say someone goaded him into participating! It will be a good opportunity to get some practice in with the longbow, and at the same time embarrass himself in front of hundreds of people! (He is taking a holiday from being clubbed in the head by weapons, so he will not be entering the Grand Melee.)
Also, now that the shopping is done and the competitions have not yet begun, Bregalad will look for an opportunity to meet with the rest of his team, so that he can relay Quinthos' plight to them.
When the party is ready to start another adventure, the elf will state his preference:
1. Rid Quinthos' village of the Ogre threat.
2. Learn more about the orcs to the northwest.

Bregalad is actually a bit embarrassed about coming up with a team name. (Has our reputation in Threshold actually grown to that level?) Plus, it may draw unwanted attention onto us from our enemies. Nicknames, too, I think should come from others (e.g. townsfolk or Duke, etc,), from the deeds that have been performed.
Re: OOC
Tratiln is still very interested in finishing off the caverns but understands that helping out a fellow elf is also very important.

That person would be Lanny.Finglas wrote:Bregalad the elf

In hindsight, I guess I agree with Finglas about the group name issue.Finglas wrote:Bregalad the elf

It may be possible to do both - the caves are on the way to Quinthos's town (Quinthos had likely passed by the caves before encountering Lanny on the trail). More on this later!Bouv wrote:Tratiln is still very interested in finishing off the caverns but understands that helping out a fellow elf is also very important.

Good point. Maybe with should deal with the caves on our way back. Anyway, Meagnor wants to wait and hear from Varis and the Baron before voting.frobozz wrote:It may be possible to do both - the caves are on the way to Quinthos's town (Quinthos had likely passed by the caves before encountering Lanny on the trail). Re: OOC
Don't forget that the large goblin is still down there in the caves (unless the troll killed him). I don't believe it I likely that we find more information about Bargle in there but we know there is some treasure to be retrieved (the goblin took some stuff from the chest before going to the level below).

Re: OOC
@frobozz. I've updated the map of the Threshold region. Both Quinthos's village and the orc's lair are indicated, at least roughly. Please note that the dotted line represents a rough trail, not a developed road.
Re: OOC
@TK: Quick question about this: Lanny's longbow currently has a range of 70/140/210. With the laminated longbow, is it now 85/155/225, or 85/170/255? (I would think it's the first one, only because the Dark Dungeons rulebook shows that I shouldn't be able to hit at a range of 250' until I become a Grandmaster... but I thought I would ask to be sure.)thirdkingdom wrote:The laminated bows are +1 damage and have their range increments increased by 15/30/45 feet.
