SAcro swishes his sword around, hoping to hit one of the two goblins attacking him.

Trusting Dimly and sacro will keep the goblins at bay, AdaRue holds out her holy symbols and commands the undead cheiftain to flee before her. She is glad she poisoned the other two wolves.

Turn! [2d6] = 7, HD Turned [2d6] = 5 <-- If it flees, she will pursue, away from the wolf.

Vernon uses his bastard sword to attack anything with the last name "Kayik!" Whether it is the undead in front of him, or the mage if it has shambled away because of AdaRue's actions.

Round 4
The goblins continue to act with surprising quickness, getting off their attacks before the party is able. Fresh after blasting the party's magic user with a 'magic missile' spell, Vir-Kayik rushes at Junius and smacks the dwarf that moved into its area with its thick wooden staff (-3). Lom-Kayik follows suit, slashing at Dimly, and watches as his goblin blade slices through the heavily wounded dwarf, dropping him (-5)!

A pair of the goblin guards (#2, #4) continue to swarm Sacro, with one managing to sneak in a perfectly placed strike. The elf clutches at the open slash in his gut, watching blood spill out between his fingers, before ultimately succumbs to his wounds. (-5) A second pair of goblins (#3, #5) cleave at AdaRue, but the heavily armored midwife manages to successfully fend off all their attempts.

The first wolf continues to rip into Rainey, taking advantage of its free, uncontested meal. The second wolf, picking up a scent in the hallway, quickly wheels around and, spying Keebler first, lunges at the elf, but is swat away by the elf's longbow. Keebler quickly switches to his longsword and, with a perfectly placed strike, opens a gaping wound in the side of his wolf adversary. Horatio waits for the opportune moment and sinks an arrow deep into the hindquarter of the wolf that has returned for them. The wolf howls in pain and, limping badly, appears to question whether to flee, but snarls with a refocused sense of purpose!

With the goblin shaman upon him, Juinus is forced to quickly drop his bow and switch to his scimitar, but slashes wildly. "O dech dhach!" the magic-using goblin taunts in goblin, which Junius understands as: "You will fall."

Back in the fray, Vernon issues a wicked slash upon Lom-Kayik and watches the goblin zombie crash to the ground; its crown falling off its head and spinning in a circular pattern before wobbling still. AdaRue, quickly stashes her holy symbols and wheels around to brain the goblin positioned directly behind her (#3), but the wildly creature ducks effortlessly out of the way. Canun bravely steps forward and swats at the nearest goblin (#5) but his weak mace attempt is harmlessly blocked aside.

Once their king falls, a sense of panic appears to overcome the regular goblin guards engaged in melee and they appear ready to quit the fight.

However, when Sacro fell, the effects of his 'sleep' spell also came to an end, and the trio of goblins affected appear to be collecting themselves and readying to re-engage.

A few things:
  • To help alleviate some of the clutter on the map, I have removed anything that has been killed (including Rainey, Dimly, Sacro, and Lom-Kayik);
  • Speaking of Lom-Kayik, he was the only undead creature in the battle. Since Vernon did enough damage to dispatch him, I allowed AdaRue to attack as normal against the swarm of goblins she's now facing (besides, her turn attempt would have failed ;) ) Sadly, I missed for her. :( .
  • With Vir-Kayik still standing and the reemergence of the sleeping goblins, I am going to allow the current goblin guards a new morale check.

Thanks for changing actions. I wasn't sure thenorder of happenings and thought the spell might go first.

Canun should probably heal himself this round. Or cast a light spell on vir kayik.

Round 5
Looking to capitalize on the perceived shaky morale of the goblin guards, the players act quickly!

In the hallway, Keebler lashes at the circling wolf with his long sword but the blade does not break through the beasts' thick hide. Horatio pulls back the drawstring on his longbow and lets loose another arrow. The arrow, while it barely seems to scratch the wolf assailant, does just enough damage to drop the creature, which falls with a loud yelp.

Back in the chamber, Junius consumes his potion of healing, returning himself to half strength, while he focuses on defense; looking to duck or dive away from the certain attack forthcoming from Vir-Kayik. Vernon rushes to aid the dwarf facing off against the goblin shaman by himself, but Vir-Kayik notices the incoming threat and knocks the fighter's bastard sword aside with its staff.

Canun, perhaps foolishly thinking victory is at hand, returns to full strength after casting a 'cure light wounds' spell on himself; using the slot slated for his memorized 'light' spell and hanging onto his 'detect magic' spell.

AdaRue shouts at the vile abominations surrounding her. The combination of her flying in her face and the goblins turning and fleeing cause her mace attack to miss its mark.

The first wolf continues to rip chunks of flesh from the very dead form of Rainey, but Horatio and Keebler wonder how much longer it will remain occupied in this way.

The goblin guards, while still outnumbering their attackers, cautiously back away before turning and fleeing.

These goblins on retreat meet the goblins now awake after their brief naps courtesy of Rainey, and, after a brief meeting in the center of the chamber, the indecisive goblins halt their retreat and the lot of them appear to be considering their next course of action.

Horatio is left wondering whether his elven friend will serve as as much of a distraction as Rainey has, or whether the wolf will decide to make him its next meal.


The goblin guards, while still outnumbering their attackers, cautiously back away before turning and fleeing. These goblins on retreat meet the goblins now awake after their brief naps, and some goblin chatter is heard. Apparently, the resolve of the goblin guards has returned as they all stop and turn to face AdaRue and Canun.


The goblins begin chanting a rousing war cry... and the sound of the war chant increases in volume as more goblins seem to join in after the effects of Keebler's 'sleep' spell are lifted.

AdaRue's heart sinks as she see her friends fall dead. This is foolish! We need to run! She urges a retreat, hoping Canun can smite the wolf feeding on Rainey. She casts CLW on herself.

Vernon smiles as his perfectly aimed backswing strikes the goblin wizard. He looks at the horde of goblin warriors and swallows hard. We should leave, Junius. Grab that green sword and crown as we go.

Keebler has a brief vision, like a glimpse into an alternate universe, of his death at the jaws of one of the big bad wolves. It is a moment of clarity—an epiphany. He realizes that he is risking his life for trinkets and baubles! The mission is complete; the town is safe. Why is he still here?

"Let's go," he says, watching the wolf carefully. He loads a Brighton-tipped arrow into his bow and trains it on the beast, should it lose interest in its meal. He backs away, firing only if necessary to defend himself.

Long bow, Brightontip arrow (THAC0 19): [1d20] = 6, [1d10] = 4
And let's hope it's not necessary! Yeesh.

"Screw that," says Horatio. "We earned whatever loot is in there. I ain't leaving yet!" He loads a Brightontip arrow into his bow and draws a careful bead on the back of the wolf. "Eat this, bitch," he says under his breath as he releases the arrow.

Longsword backstab, Brightontip (THAC0 19): [1d20+5] = 11+5 = 16 [1d10+1] = 8+1 = 9x2
I cut and pasted the wrong macro to modify, so the damage should be 8x2=16. And the longbow gets another +1 to hit from dexterity and +1 for short range, though I don't think it matters.

BOOYAH! :D

The elf loads a Brighton-tipped arrow into his bow and trains it on the beast, ready to fire at the creature should it become necessary. "Screw that," Horatio starts. "We earned whatever loot is in there. I ain't leaving yet!" The thief also loads a Brightontip arrow into his bow and draws a careful bead on the back of the wolf. "Eat this, bitch," he says under his breath as he releases the arrow. His projectile sinks deep into the back of the unsuspecting beast and it yelps in pain before collapsing, dead.

Inside the chamber, AdaRue urges for retreat after she believes her elven companion fell, but, when she learns Keebler remains standing, and realizes they may stick around to finish what they started, she casts 'cure light wounds' and fully restores herself hoping to prolong her own existence.

Canun rushes to join Vernon and Junius in their contest against Vir-Kayik. The goblin shaman appears to begin casting a spell. The uncouth priest attempts to bash the goblin shaman with his mace, interrupting the spell, but his weak strike appears to be unable to cause enough disruption. Junius, too, is unsuccessful at interrupting the shaman's casting attempt. Vernon, however, will have none of it and lands a perfectly placed strike with his blade, bloodying Vir-Kayik and ruining the casting attempt of the goblin leader.

The goblins that were huddling in the center of the chamber, after watching the last wolf fall, and their remaining leader get hobbled badly, turn and flee towards the throne in the far southern side of the room.

While the goblin leader still stands, and the retreating goblins could still prove to be problematic, the momentum of the battle has clearly shifted in the party's favor.

With the wolf put down and most of the goblins fleeing, Keebler rushes forward to help kill Vir-Kayik.

I don't think Keebler can get all the way there this round, and he doesn't want to risk hitting an ally with a bow shot, so no roll.

Full of himself after taking out the wolf, Horatio doesn't really give a shi—...shot whether he risks hitting an ally. He steps far enough forward to get a shot at the goblin shaman and lets loose another Brightontip arrow.

Ohhhhh crap.

At least the Brightontip arrow means that a hit against Junius, Canun, or Vernon will require a damage re-roll.

Vir-Kayik begins the routine of casting another spell, chanting some foreign words in the goblin tongue and reaching into the pouch dangling at his waist where his spell components are stored.

An instant before Junius, and Vernon, and Canun, and AdaRue are able to launch melee attacks; and a flash before Horatio lets loose an arrow, the goblin shaman disappears! The thief's arrow goes zipping around the corner, past the column, and shoots past Keebler, Vernon, and Junius en route to its crashing impact against the far chamber wall.

Canun, using the near-miss projectile as his excuse, nearly swings out of his boots at the now invisible target. AdaRue and Vernon, having an idea where the goblin shaman last was, last out with attacks and one after the other make solid contact -- the bloody form of Vir-Kayik returns to view as his invisibility comes to an end as his life does.

The goblins on the opposite side of the chamber have disappeared behind or beyond the throne where there's apparently another exit.

"Shh!" cautions Keebler. "Listen—and watch for blood spots!" Following his own advice, he advances, watching the floor for signs of the injured goblin shaman's passage, and listening.

Horatio has no interest in looking for blood spots just yet. He fires a Brightontip arrow at the spot where the shaman disappeared.

AdaRue urges the others to leave while they can. I don't think I can stand losing any more of you! Let's grab the treasure and leave. She looks sourly at Horatio for fitting an arrow between there party members.

Vernon waits a moment before retrieving the glowing sword and crown. He offers the sword to Junius. He then searches the bodies of their comrades, searching for valuables. He is willing to press onwards.

That's a tough goblin!

As AdaRue joins the others, she swings her Mace forcefully at the air.

Junius likewise freely swings his scimitar, hoping to hit the invisible goblin.

if any non battlers are around, can they finish off the sleepers before spell ends?

Oh. Right. Good point. If dave is okay with an action change:

Vernon is confused by the sudden disappearance of the goblin and assumes he has teleported elsewhere. He looks around the room and notices the slumbering goblins. He hurries over to them and begins ending their miserable lives, making sure that, at the least, this batch of goblins will never bother his town again. He suggests to Keebler that he gather up the (likely) magical artifacts from the goblin zombie. And items from their fallen comrades.
