Good to see you back, Doug. I figured you were working the fire. The smoke and ash have been bad at times here in Wilmington.

16000 acres burned. Was a bad deal. Swamp so couldn't use roads for containment and bulldozers were getting stuck trying. Had to end up back burning everything to 221, which they ended up closing. I was stuck there last friday and Saturday since our "Pretty Boy Helos" broke for tape coming off their tail rotors. Had to bring in the War Horses from Hickory to get the job done.

Dude, you should have called me. I live about an hour from the Green Swamp. At least you could have holed up for a bit with a cold beer.Darklin2 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 22, 2023 3:15 pm 16000 acres burned. I was getting fuel at the Cape Fear Regional Airport. Spent all the down time during the day there, Fuel, Lunch, waiting on the fire to burn hotter and travel.hedgeknight wrote: ↑Thu Jun 22, 2023 6:06 pmDude, you should have called me. Re: Q&A & Other things OCC continued...
appologies I lost power after a lot of heavy rain and flooding in my area yesterday so after work I had no time to do anything if it involved the internet and electricity. Catching up now hopefully I'll update this game tonight.

Sorry to hear that Ed. I never lost power but my driveway was washed out. Getting a truckload of stone Wednesday and trying to get it usable by hand since everyone is busy doing emergency repair work.

Re: Q&A & Other things OCC continued...
I think Ed is in the area that got hit worst. I am in the NW corner of the state on the Canadian border and we had some minor flooding and a few roads closed but never lost power. I live on the side of a steep hill so no water in my basement or standing near my house but my driveway is washed out. My driveway guy is dropping some stone off today hopefully so I can try and make it more usable but he won't be able to work on it until he gets some emergency work done.
My Mom's side of the family is from the area hit worst, down around Ludlow. Thankfully all OK. It was very bad in the southern half of the state for sure. But that area is very prone to flooding several really bad floods there in the last 100 years. In fact the Vermont flood of 1927 (the great flood) is generally considered the worst flood east of the Mississippi recorded. It happens when Atlantic storms stall in the North Atlantic and trap storms over VT so they just dump rain, then since we are so mountainous it all comes rushing down hit at once. The article implies it was climate change but there is no evidence of that. This dropped between 7" and 8" inches in the worst hit areas but the state average was around 4". For comparison Irene dropped 1.5 times that in the hard hit areas and more than double in the rest of the state and the great flood of 1927, almost a 100 years ago, the state average was 16" and the hardest hit areas may have gotten as much as 20+". That flood took out every bridge on every river in the entire state. Entire trains were carried miles from any railroad track. Not even remotely close to the same.
The important thing of course is none of my family was hurt and I know Ed was without power for a while but hopefully no one hurt there either. Damage can be fixed.

Yeah see Rex is up near Saint Albans area of VT, I'm down in a small town called Randolph, Dead center of the state. Some of the places that got it worse were the State Capitol Montpelier VT.
Some folks with Drones got some video footage of the aftermath up there https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UaLeIcGNRc
Near me the evacuated a low income housing "circle of homes" because they are right next to a book that feeds into the White River, and it was also next to the water treatment facilities that was all getting flooded near me.
