"Yes, very good!" shouts Chauncey as Alordan engages the scoundrel behind him. "Come, Talaris! Monocar needs your help! I saw him, a large insensate lump, just this way!" he says as he continues around the burning hut back to where Monocogre is slumped in a heap.

Luther slaps the ogre with his sword again. It doesn’t cause any damage, but it does manage to attract the brutes attention again. It leaves the smuggler be, turning to slam at the ranger with its hammer. Luther is barely able to duck the blow. The smuggler tries crawling away to the north.

Alordan intercepts the pirate chasing Chauncey, scratching him slightly with his dagger. He is stabbed in return for his efforts, but it doesn't hurt nearly as badly as the ogre's hammer. 3 dam

This action allows Chauncey and Talaris to move over to help Monocar next. The huge fighter still lays naked on the ground, now covered in soot, right where Lerrick left him. Talaris begins his final spell of this long, long day. Chauncey watches it all unfold before him, glad to see that some of his friends might yet survive this ordeal. He almost smiles until he sees what Lerrick sees, coming up the river trail.

Still hiding in the bushes at the edge of the jungle, the priestess spots something rather horrifying. Several of the smugglers from the last camp on the trail rush into the clearing in full armor, all of them brandishing weapons. They split up as soon as they hit the open area, scattering out wide as they advance. Lerrick counts a dozen men in this first wave, and possibly that many more flickering lights still coming up the trail.

Luther coughs, spitting out another blood clot. Damn this smoke! Can't see a thing!

Luther will abandon trying to stab the ogre, and will attempt to grapple him next round.

Lerrick, hoping to see a possible ally, shakes her head in disbelief as more of the enemy come forth. She stays among the tree line and quickly makes her way back towards the group to warn them.

Lerrick is trapped right where she is. If she runs back towards the others now, she will certainly be seen by the enemy. So, she waits at the edge of the jungle, glad that the invaders are all human and cant see her in the moderate darkness. Her hopes are crushed as the men all rush into the camp towards her friends with easily another dozen men racing in just behind the first group.

Luther cant land a blow on the frightened ogre when he slips in the sooty grass at his feet. Before he can even get up, Chauncey is there on the scene, tossing his darts as if he were at the county fair. The little pricks sting the huge ogre, first causing him to look to see where they are coming from, and then looking towards the north for an escape route. When the yellow brute spots the battered smuggler crawling away, he bolts after him. (no attack of opportunity due to the fumble)

Talarias uses the last of her enhanced blessings, healing the still enlarged Monocar back to consciousness. healed 8 Normally the newly healed fighter would need to rest before doing anything strenuous, but the powerful spell from the enlightened cleric allows him to jump back into the action immediately.

Alordan continues fighting the smuggler attacking him. He finally cuts the man down with a well timed throat slash from his smaller blade, dropping the man in the dirt at his feet. Before the ranger can decide where to help next, he sees a sight that nearly causes him to run away. Looking directly to his south, (and only south) he spots several dozen men now rushing into the compound with torches raised and weapons drawn. With the high cliff walls to the north blocking any hope of running away without being seen, the party appears to be doomed.

Lerrick, watching the group pass by, feels rage and courage surge through her veins as she is adamant that she will not sit and watch while her allies die in vain. He steps out from the woods and then screams at the top of her lungs in order to draw attention of the raiding party to her. After screaming she runs back into the woods hopping that she will be followed. Lerrick, although she knows that her actions will moss likely cause her death, is at peace., as she knows that her actions will give her comrades a chance to escape.

Welp. Here goes... :)
Hearing Lerrick’s scream, Chauncey fears they’ve lost another party member. ”Grab the halfling and the wizard! Then... follow me if you want to live!” he shouts, realizing he’s always dreamed of having a good one liner in the heat of battle. He then turns and points the wand to position a fireball to envelop the group of five pirates rushing up directly south of them and also catch the corner of the drying barn, hoping to take them out while simultaneously creating a screen of flames in front of any following pirates. He then runs southwest, aiming roughly for the spot where they entered the clearing. “I’LL BURN ANY WHO FOLLOW ALIVE!” he yells as he runs. And then, more quietly to his party: ”Oh... not you guys.”

Groans and gets to his feet. Then seeing the pirates she clutches both swords and holds them high! Screaming at them in his now oversized guttural voice, letting his fury be known! Then he sees the fireball... oooo... pretty...
hey! Chauncey! Wait for me!
and scoops up the halfling while holding out the new magic sword for Luthar. This hits better!

And then runs like a monkey to keep up with the fleeing mage.

Eye's wide open at the approaching warriors, they open even further at the mention of the fireball tactic. He runs his ass off!

Luther joins the general rush, strategically withdrawing as fast as he can manage- knowing that if the reinforcements catch up, he'll be the first to die.

Not now, Monocar! Just ruttin' run like your mama's life depends on it!

Ok, so sometimes the initiative rolls get in the way of things working exactly the way you've all planned. This is one of those times. :D

The onrush of several new pirates is enough to make every party member that is still conscious clearly agree on attempting a hasty retreat. But, sometimes even the worst laid plans can go awry.

Lerrick shouts out from the edge of the clearing, hoping to draw the attention of the marauders. She is content to die right here if it will help save the others. When she sees a few of the smugglers turn and rush her way, she ducks back into the bush and fades from sight again. 3 of the men in the second wave pull off to pursue her.

Hearing the woman scream, Chauncey is convinced that they have just lost another party member. He commands the others to grab up Lightfinger's body so they can make their way back out of this camp. But alas, it appears to be too late. By the time the mage has his wand out, he sees that the invaders are already nearly upon them. Then......he spots something most unexpected.

First, the group can hear a few loud clunks that sound like rock hitting steel. Then they hear it a few more times. Wondering what is making the strange noise, they soon spot several rocks suddenly flying in from the direction of the fields. The rocks crash against the approaching men until you can determine the source. Several of the natives, men and women alike, charge in from the west, heading straight for the group of smugglers. They continue to throw their rocks until they are directly upon their enemy. Then they pull out clubs and spears fashioned from tree branches and begin attacking the men in melee once they get in close enough. The rocks continue to rain down upon the smugglers in the rear ranks when the party hears even more of the natives coming in from the north.

Spinning around to see this new sight, the group spots more of the unarmored natives sneaking along the base of the cliff wall, hurrying into the fight from the opposite direction with their primitive weapons drawn. More rocks and sharpened sticks assail the men charging up along the river bank.

The natives are all shouting and screaming out phrases that none of you can decipher. The enthusiasm they show for killing their captives keeps them charging in against this obviously much stronger and better equipped enemy. Many in the first ranks are cut down quickly, but their numbers and sheer will to kill the bastards that took their home away from them remains strong.

Actions!

I will allow each of you to change you action now under these new circumstances. If you still plan on running away, leaving the natives to their own fate, the only clear path would be directly west.

Alordan's wide eyes can't open any further at the new developments.... He can't believe what he is seeing. A quick prayer to God for the luck, he lashes out at the nearest guard to continue the fight....

Long Sword Attack [1d20] = 3 (THACO=18)
Dagger Attack (off-hand) [1d20-1] = 17-1 = 16
Dagger Damage = S/M: [1d4+1] = 1+1 = 2 / L: [1d3+1] = 1+1 = 2

Lerrick, already prepared to die, sees her killers coming towards her. Then, to her left, she notices a large group of people attacking the slavers. She quickly looks at the three coming towards her, then without thinking, the cleric sprints towards the group that attacking the slavers in hopes of escaping her pursuers.

Chauncey strikes no one as particularly sentimental. He is, frankly, more the self-interested, self-absorbed know-it-all type. Kind of an conceited a-hole, really. Which is why it may strike some of the party as strange, that, when presented with this clear chance at escape and self-preservation, he instead chooses to stay and assist the natives in their lop-sided battle for freedom.

Moving ten feet southwest to better position himself, he levels the wand a third time, aiming for a point just beyond the southwest corner of the drying barn, in order to incinerate as many of the pirates as possible and catch the barn afire while excluding the natives from its fiery radius.

“FIA!” he yells.

Seeing Chauncey stop, he skids to a stop too. oh crap... protect the man that makes things explode! he puts LF down gently as he can and holds up both swords in a threatening way, guarding both the mage and the hobbit, hoping the sight of him will be deterrent enough to keep attackers away.
