I’d love a nice homemade sturdy hunting knife with a 6-7 inch blade.
Winter is coming...
Re: Q&A & Other things OCC continued...
Excellent skills to have. I am not the most mechanically inclined. That said, I have been a chemist for 28 years now and been reloading for longer than that. I am also an avid outdoorsman and long ago a wilderness EMT. So I have a few useful skills myself. But, fixing things isn't one of them.

Re: Q&A & Other things OCC continued...
I prefer a smaller blade for breaking down most animals, except for moose. Other outdoor chores and a 6 or 7" blade is good, sometimes even bigger depending on what you are using it for obviously. The Native American in Quebec who showed me how to break down a moose used an axe for most of it and the couple I have worked on since that I used an axe as well.hedgeknight wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 2:55 pm I’d love a nice homemade sturdy hunting knife with a 6-7 inch blade.

Re: Q&A & Other things OCC continued...
I have a hunting knife that an uncle fixed up for me when I was around 13. I just need a sheath for it. But I think it has about a 4-5" blade he reshaped and sharpened then the handle he rebuilt himself entirely. I'll have to go get it out of storage and post a pic of it. It was a completely "junk" knife that someone found at an estate sale when one of our relatives passed and he took it and fixed it up to give to me when I started hunting and fishing.

There are tons of books out there on leathercraft. Make a sheath for it. Is very fun and it means more that way.

Leathercraft is another great skill. I recently bought a book on tanning. I have the hide (leather, no hair) of the first deer I ever shot and a hide with hair on of a good sized doe I shot as well.

Re: Q&A & Other things OCC continued...
Sorry I know this combat is waiting on me. I'm debating on how I want this to pan out. Based on the description of this specific encounter it could go a few different ways.
I just have to see how everyone might adjust their actions if I have certain things go different than anticipated sterotypes might go of certain things involved.

Thanks Ed.
Interesting combat, curious to see how it plays out. I could see it go several different ways.

You know me I'm a full disclosure fellow. This is my taking wily and cunning and interpeting it to mean ogre with a brain. No cave man speak for this one. Trained also is being taken to the sense of literally like a ranger trained companion. So both have more smarts than you might typically encounter. This also guided me to thinking a smarter than average ogre might have a different moral compass at least like a Chaotic Neutral person might join a side that clearly is winning vs his own current side.

Very interesting, I am going to see if we can somehow manage to make a Dwarf-Ogre friendship work.

Hey why not I made a friendly goblin join the party and sacrifice himself to try and prove he was with the group. Anything can happen.

I am back. Been gone making smoke for Eastern North Carolina. 2000 acre Wildlife Burn turned into a 16000 acre Wildfire. Pulp road fire in the Green River Conservency 14 hours days take a toll.
