Companies would pay to send their people to you, if you can turn out a good product. In the US, such classes average $200 per day, per student, and last 1-5 days. You could have up to twelve students in a class, and run a two day weekend crash course.
Good idea. Do any of us have Instruct? Not that we need it to do basic training, but we could charge more if we could actually qualify folk )
Yes, Jakob has Instruction 1. If we can talk the DM into letting him raise that to a 2, Jakob could teach Blade, GunCbt(Laser), Tactics, Leadership, and, of course, Instruction. As is he can teach those to a 0 level. Jakob has some cash to spend on learning, and he was on a long trip here.
Tiglath, you up for Jakob having Instruction 2?
I started a Google spreadsheet with skills, if we wanted to put things into a visible matrix. Much easier than passing XLSX files around. I don't want to put the URL in a forum post, because anyone with the URL can edit the spreadsheet. It's OOC knowledge, but if you all are interested, I'll send you the URL.
Also, because it came up:

I have Instruction-1, which isn't really much of anything, but would be willing to focus on it to take it up to 2 depending on how skill improvement works for this game. BTW how much time has passed since the game started? Didn't seem like more than a week.
I'm standing by to get my first post in, I'll be up for another 4 hours at least waiting on a call from back in the States.
By all means pile into the
new thread "The Next Ticket" and introduce yourself - you got the job!
Time/events elapsed is overnight and Skip successfully presenting himself for interview in Gunny's private back bar in the mid/late afternoon of the day after.
Int roll on your behalf: Roll(2d6)+0: 3,6,+0 Total:9
You recognise Jakob Domici - he briefed you for the raid on Lanth (where you won the SEH?)
As per Leitz's last if you wish you can currently be improving your Instruction 1 to Instruction 2 - currently 1.5

Yes I'm cool with that - although its currently a WIP.
Thank you for curating the Google spreadsheet with skills.
joertexas does that free you from keeping your records?
With everyone contributing so generously I'm anxious we don't duplicate.

joertexas was doing the "stuff", I thought. That's why I went with skills. I've just updated to add all the skills from Book 4.
Lemme know how much Jakob spent for his learning, and I'll take it off his cash on hand.

For the team - yes, less than a week.

Very good, but did they ever pick a name for the unit?

Edit: also terms of employment, pay, rank, etc?

On the Instruction Skill front I'm happy to call it as a cumulative skill. Instruction skill is a pretty rare beast! Therefore if you have two Instructors at Skill 1 teaching the same course you count Instruction 2 for the result/effect.
Hiring Skip and Jakob gets you there!
There was a method to the recruitment programme!

"The Honourable and Ever Victorious
those folk wot done The Bartizan over an' is a bit matey wiv the aslan Mercenary Company" has something of a ring to it.
The "No Name" merc company?
"Nemo"?

For a while I was in a "Three Kingdoms China" game, and we ran entire provinces with Google spreadsheets.

It was interesting, because I watched "Red Cliff" and formed one opinion, but the GM really knew the history and Cao Cao was a worthy leader. Not perfect, but someone you might disagree with but still like.

Red Cliff wasn't bad, John Woo's pigeon fixation aside. You ever read the book?

No, which is odd. My character was the band leader, and a rising general who would have contested with Cao Cao had things continued. I really liked the game, but I also tend to write side fiction. I never really "got" the era well enough to do the fiction right. Usually I dive into source material.

I added a TOTALS column that should automatically update as people fill in their skills. That way we can get a quick view of what we have, and don't have.

It's pretty fun, probably better in Chinese, which I don't know. The Emperor dies, the heir is a child, the Imperial eunuchs are corrupt and powerful and control the new Emperor, a patriot tries to stop them but is killed, a peasant rebellion breaks out, a general sees his opportunity and kills all the eunuchs and takes the emperor under his control, warlordism breaks out, the prime minister tries to hold the center together, and no one ever really gets what they want.
It's also very, very long.

The Slightly Ethical Mercenary Company was popular at the time of suggestion.
I do like Anonymous Interventions, or how about
The Honourable Mercenary Company. (a cut down of a previous suggestion, but I'd go for the longer version) or
The Honourable Company of Mercenary Adventurers
I've always like the sound of The Honourable Company of Mercantile Adventurers, so I've been trying to work up something similar.
We didn't finalise rank yet

OK, so I've added my skills to be the spreadsheet, except for guns skills as I'm slightly confused as that entries we already have, which is Gun-CbtR (is this combat rifle -slug?) but also 'slug rifle'. I need to cover slug rifle, slug pistol and shotgun.
Also, I've been talking to Tiglath and 40k will get us the following renovations on the Bartzan:
Tiglath wrote:Oooh, the Bartizan is an excellent pit into which to hurl your money!
For 40KCr you can, if not turn it around, at least get it back to habitable and more importantly
functional.
For your money you will get:
repair/upgrade the AA Target Acquistion radar to civilian Air Traffic standard all weather radar - sufficient for Flight Ops / allow the landing pad to operate for commercial use
replace and repair the doors and windows you and the vargr blew out - to keep the atmosphere outside where it should be
deep clean/restore habitable areas so as to be fit for everyday use (Penthouse, three Accommodation floors), repair & restore the "Party deck" to habitable use
deep clean and strip out the ex drugs labs and general prison deck (4,5 & 6) so as to be not a health hazard and so as to be ready for repurposing,
deep clean and strip out the lower floors (1,2 & 3 hospital/prison) so as to be ready for repurposing (hospital/prison on 3 only when the cops release it as a crime scene).
So, Voss got 40k from the torture drugs, half of which goes to Frank. Frank is willing to give that to the renovations and Voss is happy to loan his 20k, or we might be able to source that elsewhere. I'm not sure if we've touched the original 40k we had.
I think we need to do this, as we need the Bartizan to be at least functional as a landing site to get some money to keep things ticking over. It might be worth finding out how much to get a better than commercial radar, or do more with the renovations, such as get some kind of hospital kitted out. That might be worth doing more than paying for those fancy medkits.
