So, how would you guys like to attack the giant camp?

Fourthmonth, Twentiethday
Hex 237.117
Newton and Notai slink forward, moving slowly and as stealthily as possible. It's a twelve hundred feet to the giants' camp, and the air grows hazier with smoke. Finally, the pair are able to see into the clearing; there are two giants within, busy roasting a large buck on a spit over their fire. They do not seem to notice the adventurers.
Newton gestures for Notai to remain where they are while he returns and gets the others.
I'm guessing that Newton's sneak (+5) is better than Notai and now they are here then it's less risky for him to sneak back on his own than both of them going? Famous last words

Notai
Giving a shrug, she then nods to Newton and returns attention to their foes.

Feargus
Hearing the status, Feargus says "So the giants are roasting their breakfast and we're going to roast the giants. Fireballs then, T?"

Telemachus
"Let's do it! Uh, maybe those folks in metal armor stay a little further behind to avoid giving us away?"
The mage moves as silently as he can to a point where he can just barely reach the camp with a Fireball spell. He then casts the spell, centered on the firepit.

Gardo
Hearing the mage's plan, he nods. "Okay. Don't really feel like getting cooked with one of those things anyway. Just don't hit Notai." He and Wulfka will follow behind at a distance waiting for the mage to do his thing.
Notai
Bow ready, Notai watches the giants for any sign of being alerted to the group. She will occasionally look back to see where the others are.

Feargus
Feargus tags along with Gardo, doing his best to keep the rattle from his armor to a minimum. I really need to get those plates oiled
As soon as the first fireball hits, Feargus will prepare himself for action, only moving to intercept if the giant charges out at T. Otherwise he will let the second fireball hit - I think we're doing double fireballs right?

The plan is double Fireballs but you know what they say about plans and first contact with the enemy...

Ribar will follow along with the second group.

Newton leads Telemachus towards Notai and the giants, hoping the mage can follow his steps closely enough to not be heard.
When Telemachus is ready to let lose with his first spell, Newton will follow it with an arrow at whichever giant seems most damaged.

Surprise Round
Telemachus advances as far as he dares, but close enough that he can line up a clear shot on the clearing through the trees. Uttering the words to his spell he points, and a tiny sphere of flame shoots forth, threading the needle through the woods before erupting into a fiery ball of death. Cries of pain and anger rise from the clearing. Newton fires an arrow, but is unable to hit a target.
Okay, here's how we're going to do this. The range of a fireball is 240' yards, but visibility in light forest has a maximum range of 120 yards (Hexcrawl Basics, p. 11), so I'm going to say that is the maximum. However, the giants are going to have partial cover from attacks at this distance due to the trees in between.

Both failed, which is good, because that's a lot of 1s!
A second fireball blossoms in the clearing. The cries of anger and anguish cease.

Tie!
Use of magic triggers a morale check for the giants: http://orokos.com/roll/770640: 2d69 Oooh, that's a failure. They've got a morale of 8. Since they were surprised, and don't know where the attack came from, or really what happened, I'm going to say they basically lose a turn trying to figure out what's going on.
And the second fireball hits. Fight is over. It's actually probably a good thing you guys met the two other giants as a random encounter. You wouldn't have been able to get all four with a single fireball, and they would have been harder to sneak up on, as well.

Gardo
"Well, that was a bit unsatisfying. Still, we know where they all are now. Glad I'm on your side, Telemachus. Not sure I could handle one of those hits. Shall we go see what they were cooking?"
Gardo will move forward to search the camp and see what there is to be had, food and treasure-wise.

The Aftermath
The adventurers emerge from the woods and search the camp. The two dead giants are sprawled on the ground, burnt by flames. The fire is burning much more cleanly, the deer on a spit charred beyond recognition. The adventurers find:
*5,000 gold coins, of a similar mint to the ones found earlier.
*Two charred scrolls, damaged by the blast past the point of legibility.
*On one of the bodies outside of camp, that had been noticed previously by Notai on her scouting mission, a set of mailed gauntlets curiously unharmed or rusted by the elements.
*In one of the crude sacks carried by the giants, under hundreds of gold coins, the adventurers find an amulet wrought of gold and set with rubies in an abstract pattern. The chain strung through it has long since broken.

Telemachus
The mage looks at the charred scrolls with a sad expression.
"Well, at least I didn't melt the gold into one big hunk of metal! Let's grab what looks valuable and get back to the mercs."
Can we take the wounded mercs with us or are we risking their health by moving them at all?

Feargus
"Those were some big boys. The gods only know where they found this stuff. Well done all around. When the mercs are ready to go, we can be on our way northward."
