Quest #14 "Hidden Fortress of the Poison Spider Monsters"
Re: Quest #14 "Hidden Fortress of the Poison Spider Monsters
Saracen frowns at the little Druids reckless behaviour.
I shall stay here and keep an arrow ready innly now incase the spiders or their master return.

Inside The Wooden Structure

Freeday, 5th of Goodmonth
Mid Morning, Hot, Humid
Jax talks Maag, Storm, and Gramble into following him back over the pit to better investigate the concealed alcove. The monk and the Halfling have no problem traversing the long log. Maag also has little difficulty crossing, being extremely agile for such a large specimen. Gramble has a bit more difficulty, nearly falling off of the log and into the webs below on 2 separate occasions. Fortunatly, the heavily armored fighter has his huge ax at the ready, propping it against the wall when he starts to falter and saving himself the embarrassment of flopping into the pit with his missile weapons.
All four of them are able to cross unmolested, slowly making their way to the end of the passage. Jax looks around for anything that might resemble a trap, but he doesn't spot any dangers. Moving the branches and vines away from the opening to the alcove, he and Storm see what definitely looks like a metallic lever sticking up out of the floor. It is currently in the straight up position and appears to pull towards the opening. Calling out to the others that he is about to pull it, everyone on the other side of the pit gets ready.
Eawad takes Avaala's advice and scoots back over the slime pit, standing just around the corner so he can see the gate blocking the passage. Judson stands at the corner, ready to relay anything that the thief sees to the others. Brother Gilbert, Saracen, and Avaala stay below the druids wriggling foliage above, hoping that nothing drops down on them as they wait. With that, Jaxsen pulls on the lever.
Eawad sees the copper gate slide silently and fluidly open. He shouts that fact to Judson, who in turn calls out to the others that their suspicions were correct and that the way is now open. Jaxsen smiles at his accomplishment, but his celebration is short lived, when another huge spider, or possibly the same one, comes crashing through the ceiling again, plopping down right next to Gramble. It rears back, ready to attack the trailing fighter.

Jaxsen moves to the wall opposite the alcove and moves to attack the spider with his halberd. But he gets too close to the wall and sticks to the creosote, his attack going completely awry!!
Jaxsen w/ Halberd to hit [1d20] = 1
OM, this is my first natural 1. Not sure if there is anything in particular you do on such occasions.

Avaala the Grey
Seeing the spider drop down and attack his comrades, Avaala mumbles, "There you are, you sum'bitch." and lashes out with his magical bolts spell!
"Colt & Ruger, Smith & Wesson,
lash out now and teach 'em a lesson!"
Magic Missiles (2) [2d4+2] = 5+2 = 7

Saracen fries his arrows as soon as he sees the spider drop through the ceiling, having been looking for such as the others explored.

Maag
Maag thinks about jumping to Gramble's side and whacking the spider with his sword. But then he realizes that Gramble is wearing metal armor and he's wearing dead-cow armor, so any spider with sense will bite him first.
Instead, Maag takes advantage of Storm's lack of height and settles for a crossbow shot instead.
Light Crossbow (Dex Bonus:+2 THACO: 18) To Hit: [1d20] = 19 Damage: [1d4] = 4

Judson hears something over head and then warns the others. There's something moving around right above where I'm standing. Be ready. He then points his sword in the direction of the movement.

Inside The Wooden Structure
Splitting the Party
Freeday, 5th of Goodmonth
Mid Morning, Hot, Humid
The spider lashes forward, it’s fangs glancing off the armor of Gramble close enough for the fighter to smell the acrid poison that drips from them. His return attack, as well as those of his friends, is brutal and quick, leaving the oversized arachnid in a heap of blood and smelly ichor on the floor of the passage. Nothing more is seen or heard from above the kill zone.
Near the corner of the slime pit, Judson continues to hear a rustling noise from above. While the others remain engaged with the spider fight, he calls out to them just as another thick strand of web-like material shoots down past him form somewhere directly above his head. He thrusts his sword up at it but can’t make out what it might be. Suddenly, the fighter lets out an audible gasp, spotting something on the other side of the slime pit.

Avaala the Grey
Keeping in mind the web strands that grabbed the Monk and Rollo, Avaala pulls out a dagger and keeps it in hand as he returns around the corner when Judson calls out.

Jaxsen, having pulled himself away from the wall, looks a bit peevish. "My apologies. I lost my focus and let the terrain defeat me. I shall strive to do better."
With that, he takes a look back into the alcove, making sure that it is only an alcove, and that there are no other passages or doors leading away from it.

Re: Quest #14 "Hidden Fortress of the Poison Spider Monsters
Storm seeing the spider fall, whispers a short prayer to the forces of nature, and then hearing the cry of his companion rushes to see what’s happening.
From this distance can those of us on this side of the second pit see what’s happening with the webbed fellow? Guessing not but just wanted to be sure.
The little Halfling will traverse the log again to join those back across the second pit carefully.

He pulls out his dagger, in case he needs to help with web cutting, and looks to find out what has happened to Judson.

I don't think Judson is hit is he? The text says the web strand shoots down past him.

You can see that there is a commotion, but can’t tell what is happening, exactly.Storm11 wrote: From this distance can those of us on this side of the second pit see what’s happening with the webbed fellow? Guessing not but just wanted to be sure.
