Lars reloads his crossbow, prepairing for the worst.

Round Two Summary:

Enemy Initiative [1d6] = 4

Orrin hacks at the nearest wolf and takes a chunk out of its side, but it remains up. Both of the wolves choose to attack Lug, as he is the scarier looking threat of the two, but neither one is able to make it through his armor.

Dire Wolf vs Lug [1d20] = 2, damage [2d4] = 8

Dire Wolf 1: 21 - 5 = 16 HP

Orrin desperately continues hacking away at one of the wolves.

"Little help, here?" he grunts, panting with exertion.

Initiative: [1d6] = 6

Lars's bolt strikes Orrin in the shoulder, dealing one point of damage, but it's not enough to keep him from landing an attack against the same wolf as before, even further injuring it.

The wolves, for their part, continue their ferocious assault on Lug, ripping and tearing at his cloak and clothes but without being able to get a good grip on him. Lug spends the majority of his time fending off wolf attacks and is unable to bring the massive blade of his weapon to bear.

Actions and initiative!

Dire wolf 1: 12 HP
Dire wolf 2: 19 HP

It starts sinking into Lug's thick head that one bite from these dogs could be the end of him. He starts concentrating on the task at hand.

Letting out a howl of rage and frustration, Orrin leaps into the air and brings his axe down viciously on the beast before him with all of the strength he can muster. The tendons on his forearm holding the axe stand out like ropes stretched nearly to breaking. He smashes his axe into the dire wolf and cries out triumphantly to his comrades.

Initiative: [1d6] = 4

I'm assuming you'll want max damage for that crit rather than 2 damage and some kind of special effect?

Sorry about that. I blame the diceroller. At least it seems to have cursed the wolves as well.
Lars locates a tall tree close to Naila's unconscious body, and starts climbing. "Warriors! Up here."
As well as the flow of battle has gone for us so far. It still only takes one round to turn against us. If you can make it over here, Lars can let down a rope.

Round Three Summary:

Somehow, unbelievably, the tide of battle seems to have turned in the party's favor as Lug catches the injured wolf a grazing blow to one leg, throwing it off-balance and straight into the path of Orrin's hand axe, which the dwarf buries deeply in the foul animal's skull, ending it.

The remaining wolf's attack to Lug's exposed flank is half-hearted, the animal seeming more interested in dissuading pursuit as it retreats than in finishing its opponent.

Lars looks on from the lower branches of the tree he's managed to clamber up.

Orrin takes a weary swing to drive the wolf off, but the previous attack left him temporarily spent of energy.

Lug swings wildly at the retreating wolf.
