Richard

My Dear Strong Master of Swords Tiny,

I am so grateful for your insightful suggestion. It may indeed be that you should smash it.

Just please wait a bit until I fail and either die a horrible trap-death or get out of the way of the chest, and I should, in the latter case, look with wonder and delight upon you doing your masterful smashing of the chest.

A secret compartment has been spotted, but not opened. Different ways of doing so were suggested in an earlier post, for example deduction/guessing, thieving skills or force.

Richard Well Master Thorelf, there seems to be a hidden compartment here, but I cannot seem to figure out exactly how to open it, nor how I intuit that there is one, nor even what it looks like. Could you have a look at it, please?

Points uncertainly to the spot where the compartment is ( or he thinks it must be).

Do you see it? There is definitely a spatial anomaly right here and I may even be able to discern a crack in the fabric of manatime right...

Points to it
...here. Or I could be deluding myself as usual.

Richard may well be making it up. I am not sure why he thinks there is a compartment there.
I am sure that he thinks there is one there, and that he feels he needs a reason for thinking so.

While waiting for anyone to come and do some figuring Richard decides to play with his newfound skill of mental "rolling of the dice" and see what he can figure out for himself by spending a round investigating the compartment.

Output: Figuring out how to open the secret compartment in the chest - roll [1d20]=1

Clarification: Thorelf is waiting for Korin to see if he can find out how to get the compartment opened (using thieving skills etc) before he tries anything himself.

POLL: should I add GWs room numbers to our poetical map, for clarity, or will that just clutter it?

Eaton

Grabs his mace. Lifts it up and adores it.

My mace!

I should have known that the evil creature lied to me when he said that is was in the water. The evil ones can’t be trusted. Who should put this beautiful gem in the water where it can rust? Nobody in his or her right mind.

Room 22

Richard has clearly identified the location of a secret compartment in the wooden chest standing in the recently-decorated-with-feathers-and-gold-coins room. Tiny is eager to bash it open; the others hesitate when presented with this solution, hoping some other non-destructive option could be applied. Eaton, though, only has eyes for his long lost mace, now safely back in his grip. It feels mighty good.

Richard

In Krooda's secret compartment there was nail-shaped opening. Does anyone see any irregularities where one might insert a nail or some other such-like shape?

Richard decides to go for the trial-and-error method, and carefully first looks at , then gently presses with his fingers all around and all over the chest, using eyes and his sense of touch to find any irregularities, listening for tiny clicking sounds, just as when you open a safe. He also looks for any symbols that might help.

Korin meanwhile stands by the intended door ready to go waiting about quietly for a change.

Thorelf

Seeing Korin is not working the chest, he walks over to Richard.

"Can I have a second look as well?"

No leads at all as to how to open the compartment?

Richard steps aside.

Please do take over, Master Korin!

Despite spending time, empirical testing. theoretical and spirit mental effort, nothing, but nothing at all happens. It's as if it were made of an inimical other-worldly material.

I was just about to ask Master Tiny to use the nuclear option.

Richard

There are many uses of the word "master". Richard uses it in the Victorian sense, as a title among equals, usually among a group of friend who each have a skill.

This would usually exclude lords and serfs.
And monsters.

Korin walks back into the room heavy footed possibly by intent "What's takin' so long eh? Thought we were done in ere? What can't nobody open tha durned thing?" the dwarf comments walking over to the chest "Someone just bash er open then."
