"We would do well to keep this place in mind for safe haven" says Hallagad, indicating the barring mechanism on the door. "I fear there will be little of that in this contemptible place."

He is ready to move onwards.

Xale restores some of the wounds he had just inflicted on Tanner. (+22 HP)

Time passes (and dice roll) as you discuss your next move.

Malibran keeps alert as the group above delve deeper. He takes the silence above as a good thing for the moment.

Did anyone check that chest?

Tanner

Since no one has checked the chest yet...

Tanner unslings his pole and slides it together. He uses the hook on the end to pull the chest away from the wall, then attempts to flip it so the keyhole side is up and the bottom is exposed.

Hallagad will stand guard while the chest is examined, hoping no unholy horrors are released. He'll check to see if the door heading east from the ape room can be barred. If so, he will suggest doing that and exploring the quiet hall to the south.

Xale

Xale will cover the unopened door.

Tanner unslings his pole and assembles it. He manages to wedge the hook end behind the chest and walk it away from the wall, one side at a time, little by little. The heavy chest scrapes loudly on the floor. Tanner uses the hook to turn the chest halfway around until the lock faces the wall then pull at the top of the chest. The room rings with the sound of what must be thousands of shifting and jingling coins as the chest falls on its back.

Meanwhile, Hallagad and Xale keep an eye on the unopened starboard door. There is no bar visible on this side of the door. From the lack of visible hinges, it appears to open away from you.

Back down in the teleporter hall, Malibran realizes that the enchantment on his shield is about to expire.

Rool Diov

Rool approaches the chest and examines it for sprung or unsprung traps that might yet activate.

Rool beings carefully inspecting the chest for traps. Even before he touches it, he gives it a good look. The chest has a shine that isn't quite right. If the light hits it just so...yes, the chest is definitely coated in something. A careful sniff, and Rool is sure of it: the chest is coated in a contact poison that will affect anyone who touches it.

Away in the hallway where Risdac and Malibran wait, the lights go out. It is very dark. They are likely to be eaten by a grue.
I wanted to move things along upstairs, so Malibran and Risdac can take an action before the light spell expires if they like.

Malibran casts light on his mighty shield to fend off the harrowing darkness! Praise Pholtus!

Risdac Egargi

Do you think they've forgotten about us, or they're just all dead? the mage quietly asks Malibran, attempting to inject a little gallows humor into their present situation.

Rool Diov

Rool motions his comrades away from the chest. "Contact poison", he says.

Xale

To Rool, "I am wearing a Periapt of Proof against Poison. Do you need me to do anything?"

The Unseen Servant is immune to poison. He placidly steps forward and unlocks the chest without a trace of concern about the poison covering it.

The chest contains about 1250 gold pieces, 2500 silver pieces, and a platinum scroll tube.

Down in the hall, Malibran casts another Light spell on his shield, chasing the grues away.

Tanner

Nice to see we'll get a bit of a payday. Tanner says this as he stows his pole.

Odilo waves off the thought "Eh payday won't matter if we are stuck on this ship. Not to mention our original task of the church filled with folks and our old friends body in hell. After all where are we to spend coin on this ship or in hell?"

Rool Diov

"How about seeing what is beyond this door?" Rool asks.

Odilo being the spell hurler he is steps aside and waves a hand towards the indicated door "Absolutely Rool have at it my good man."

Rool Diov

The Master Thief turns to ask Tanner for his 10’ pole, just in time to see him stow it.

ā€œI’d like to borrow that pole to try and push the door open,ā€ Rool says to Tanner with a smile.
