Lanny the elf

Lanny nods at Tratiln's remark.

"Quite possible, Tratiln... Of course, it is equally possible that the kobolds themselves made this hole, and also set this trip wire, as a means to mark and defend their territory down here... Remember, the castle has been vacant for over two hundred years, so perhaps these kobolds moved in after the humans moved out. But I agree, their uncivilized condition seems to indicate that they have emerged from the deepest depths, and that they probably have never even been to the surface, much less have learned the Thyatian tongue..."

Lanny looks at the substance on the spear tips pointed out by Rhys.

"This is no accident... It is probably some form of poison. I'm glad they did not get the chance to throw their spears..."

Lanny looks around at the others to see what they want to do.

So far I count 1 vote to camp right now (Bregalad) and I think 2 to proceed down the dark hallway (Lanny and Drudsa). Anyone else?

"We should not break in the corridor, we need to soldier on to find a safer place to rest."

Rhys the Traveler

Rhys indicated he was ready to continue north after examining the kobolds.

I believe Finglas actually intended to suggest for us to go forward and look for the lair of the kobolds.

Bregalad the elf

Bregalad breathes a sigh of relief, as he sees Innana successfully cross the pit. He gathers his things and dons his armor, and then discusses the party's next actions. "Lantharios, I was at first hesitant to see ourselves on this side of the pit. Yet, this may be a good area to make camp. The kobolds may have sleeping quarters nearby. And the trip alarm may work in our favor. Rhys, do you think it could be set back up?"

Rhys the Traveler

Sorry; somehow I must have missed Bregalad's interaction there!

Rhys shrugs and says, "I could give it a try after we make sure the area is clear!"

Drudsa the dabbler

Thordin the dwarf grumbles to himself "If the elf wanted to keep going, he shoulda just said that instead of talkin' like an...elf. grumble, grumble, grumble..."

The adventurers, armored once again, advance down the hallway. It runs west for 120' before turning north for thirty, at which point it opens up into a smallish room, about twenty feet to a side. The wire, which had been running down the corridor through a series of small hoops mounted to the wall, terminates here in an upended woven basket. A pile of rocks lies before the basket.

The rest of the room contains filthy sleeping blankets, a small barrel containing what looks to be water and several hunks of unidentifiable meat, scorched on a fire. The room itself is lit by a crude oil lamp that flickers unsteadily. There is a corridor leading west from the room; it turns north after twenty feet.

Lanny the elf

Lanny looks around the room, an expression of disgust on his face.

"More of a guard post than a lair, I would think... To say the least, it is somewhat lacking in the comforts of a proper home. This place probably has more fleas than the Inn on Fogor's Isle... I confess I am not too keen to sleep here. Oh and Rhys, I think that this was supposed to be you..."

Lanny points to the hunk of scorched meat.

[Innana]

Innana the Fighter:

" Well Bregelad, I am not keen on sleeping in a Kobolt lair, but if it means we have a better chance of staying alive, then I guess I will spread some mint leaves around to clear the air." Innana walks into the room filled with putrid and discusting Kobolt leftovers. "ya, I take that back, I think I would rather die than sleep here." Innana hold the inside of her elbow over her nose as she examines the room.

"We can always see what is up ahead," Rhys points out, looking down the western hallway.

[Finglas]

Innana the Fighter:

" Well Bregelad, I am not keen on sleeping in a Kobolt lair, but if it means we have a better chance of staying alive, then I guess I will spread some mint leaves around to clear the air." Innana walks into the room filled with putrid and discusting Kobolt leftovers. "ya, I take that back, I think I would rather die than sleep here." Innana hold the inside of her elbow over her nose as she examines the room.

Bregalad the elf

Bregalad tries not to breathe in the putrid air, as the group examines the room. "Yes, Innana. We may very well die from disease, if we stay here! Dogs have cleaner dens than this!"

"This wire, however, could be useful. If we press onward, then I will coil it up and bring it with us."

Rhys the Traveler

"We can always see what is up ahead," Rhys points out, looking down the western hallway.

Bregalad the elf

"Yes! A bit further, at the very least!"

Lanny the elf

Lanny pokes around the room, kicking over the upended basket to make sure nothing is hidden underneath it.

"I agree, let us keep moving. If indeed this was just a guard post, then one of the guards may have gone back to the lair to warn the others of our presence. It is best to remain on guard for ambushes as we move forward..."

Thordin the dwarf

"There is no indication where the stuff on their spears came from."

Thordin does not want to rest in the Kobold area.

Drudsa the dabbler

"Let us keep moving then, there might be a more suitable area further ahead. Be prepared, as I find it unlikely that this small group we met were all the existing kobolds in this area."

[Innana]

Innana the Fughter:

"I will watch the hallway" , Innana is the first to back into the hallway. She takes a few feet down the hall and gasps in a deep breath. She leans on the stone wall thinking that on the other side would be the fat hobgoblins room. Innana mutters to herself, "if only there was a secret entrance here to the hobgoblins room. I would rather sleep in there, given an alternative."

No such secret doors are detected.

Sorry, crazy busy day. Unless I hear otherwise in the morning I will assume you guys are moving on.

The adventurers press onwards. The western corridor runs for twenty feet, then turns north. Twenty feet down the northern corridor the companions find that the hallway has collapsed. A crude set of narrow steps -- only wide enough for one person at a time -- has been carved out of the rubble, leading downwards. It looks as though the steps descend about twenty feet before leveling out.

Tratiln looks at the stairs. "Yeah, I'm sure those are safe. Shall we continue to investigate?"

"Down... Always down! What kind of place is this?"
