005: In the Presence of True Power

Jaelah laughs lightly. "Yes, it is. How about we do what so many couples do, and look for a place to build a home here? We can take the bottle with us."

I'm sure "Grandad" will appreciate that adjacent balconies can easily lead to genuine navigational errors when executing a climbing ascent (especially when carrying chocolates and with a rose between your teeth)... a further and subsequent "navigational error" in subdued lighting merely compounded the initial mistake... and "diverted" the Imperial bloodline...

He stared into the distance for a few seconds and then he smiled. "I have a candidate that might work. Come on."

Roscoe will pack up the picnic basket and help you onto the grav bike. "It's about an hour from here, so we won't be able to stay more than 90 minutes before we need to start heading back, but I think you'll like it."

He takes off and kicks the bike into high gear, sending you both screaming across the heavens. He is headed toward a mountain range in the distance but rises up to pass over it when you reach it. Then you go on for another 45 minutes, closing with a second mountain range, but slowing before you get there.

The land is cultivated on the plain, but wild in the hills. A strong, fast river cuts down from the mountains, carving a gorge through the land. There is one hill in particular that is situated above the river with a commanding view of its length. Tall trees cover it but there is one spot that is open to see everything. It's flat and sturdy, the perfect place to build a house like the one in the picture you shared.

He lands in the middle of where a multilevel house would go and helps you off the bike. "What do you think?"

Metz will open the bag he brought with him, slip on some gloves, and carefully place it inside. "Should we follow Arkar?"

Garvin replies with cheerful candour "There's an argument that says "probably not" but Arkar's likely cleared the route ahead for us. Besides I expect you'll want to discover "that which is best left unknown" an' fiddle with the controls of the universe".

You--and William and Walt unless they say differently--head after Arkar. That means you end up in the living room analog that is bigger than your ship looking out a wide window at a Saturn-like planet with glorious rings. The furniture is made for humans and looks comfortable. There are several corridors leading off, but he was told to go down the stairs you see there.

The gems are glimpses into people and places. There are a few that seem to be almost like focused encyclopedias, but if there is an index, you can't find it. It's like flipping through the Encyclopedia Britanica and seeing what you get. Ask me how I know! Educational, but not easily searched.

You take the other teleportal and end up in a wide chamber somewhere underground. It has a plethora of vehicles parked in rows, including a duplicate of The Dart and a somewhat larger ship of the same general design. The cavern has a wade opening off to one side that is more than big enough for any of the vehicles to fly through. The view of the outside is obscured by falling water. The opening is behind a tremendous waterfall.

Deeper in the cavern, there are lights that indicate there is more to be found, but you can't see it from here.

Jaelah smiles widely as she dismounts and looks around. "This is the first time I've ever breathed clean air that hasn't be recycled. It's wonderful." She spots a outcropping a short distance away. "Come on, let's sit where we can watch the water." She takes Roscoe by the hand and climbs up to the flat topped surface. She sits down and looks out over the valley. After a moment of blissful silence, she glances at him. "Most humans have middle and surnames. What would you like to have as yours?"

I can’t say if it appeals or not, but it’s mine now. No middle name, though. I wonder if I’ll miss it when I’m older.”

Then he hesitantly leaned toward you and kissed you softly. “This is our place. Our home. Well, one day, anyway.”

You cant interact with the area, but you can look around at any angle as you travel. First one had Vargr and humans excavating and topping a mountain while being supervised by Droynes. I learned how to fly, or at least a bit of 3d geometry. HA. Can't find a index anywhere."
