Kranstön puts down his stew bowl, then joins the conversation.

"Yes, let us circle the wagons," he says. "I'd like to put brave Eustace inside the defensive circle - I'll not have some overgrown whelp gnawing on her."

"Now, in the time we have before they arrive, for surely they will track you, Montego, I shall sing a few words that may help us in the ensuing fracas.... ahem!" he says, readying his drum. He begins tapping out a rhythm.

The force was great,
The churlish curs,
Still wearing mentioned trading furs,
Upon broad frames. With claw and fang,
Determined to retain them.

They failed to note
That our new clan,
Determined crew, came with a plan
To rid them of their outerwear -
with sword and bow to gain them!

If he can keep this up for at least three rounds before the worgs arrive (or the party goes to meet them) then everyone will get a +1 to attack rolls for the first 2 rounds of combat. 8-)

Sia

Seeing Montego still hurting moves over and has a look at the injury. Cleans the would and applies a clean bandage to it.

[1d20] = 13 Healing check

[1d3] = 2

Well that will help some. Let's see if the Goddess of the Forest is happy today.

[1d8] = 1 CLW

Well she is a fickle one some times. Let's try again.

[1d8] = 2 CLW

Well that will have to do for now. I will try again later if need be.

Cassius

The Elf perks his ears up at the howling. "They're coming. Get ready." He turns to Emerell. "We are fighting here. Help us move these wagons and gather the horses in the center. Stay with us and we'll be fine."

Cassius starts pulling a wagon into position. "Can someone give me a hand here?" His plan is to make a triangle with the three wagons, and put the horses in the middle.

Avengers....Border Watch...Assemble!

The consensus is to "circle" the wagons into a sort of triangular pattern, with the horses and folks in the middle. Once the decision is made, the three merchants, along with the Border Watch heroes, make it happen as quickly as they can grunt the wagons into position.
No sooner have they finished, they hear the howling and snarling of wolves coming through the forest right toward them!
Kranston breaks out into a chant, his drum beating out a rhythm:

The force was great,
The churlish curs,
Still wearing mentioned trading furs,
Upon broad frames. With claw and fang,
Determined to retain them.

They failed to note
That our new clan,
Determined crew, came with a plan
To rid them of their outerwear -
with sword and bow to gain them!

He repeats the chant over and over as the creatures break cover of the trees and you get a good look at them for the first time:

Image

Seeing your camp, the worgs and their riders spread out, planning to attack from at least two sides! Their howls for death and destruction send chills up your spines and it doesn't do the horses any good either. Each large black wolf has a goblin rider.
"Here they come!" hollers Malin, steel in hand as he crouches down in his wagon seat.

Image

*Archers > assuming you were prepared, you will have 1 round of attack before the goblins/worgs arrive!
Fire away and good luck!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thanks to Kranston's chant, everyone gets +1 to attack for the first 2 rounds of combat!
Roll initiative (1d10) and give me 1-2 rounds worth of actions.
For example, Montego may roll 2 rounds of attacks. "I fire two arrows at W3. If I I take down the worg, I will then move to the Goblin rider with my next attack." something like that.
Sai
Sai with bow in hand fires at the first incoming Worg. And takes cover between Wagons B and C. Shooting through the opening between them for partial cover.
[1d10] = 9 Init +2 Dex
[1d20+2] = 6+2 = 8 Long Bow Miss.
[1d20+2] = 19+2 = 21 Long Bow
[1d8] = 6 Long bow damage
Round 1
Seeing all the rest coming in he starts casting Entangle. Centered on W4. 40 foot cube. Duration 1 turn.
Initiative [1d10] = 6
Montego fires 2 arrows at the oncoming band of orcs (W1) from his position in between the front pair of wagons. (B&C)
Attack w/ Bow [1d20+3] = 12+3 = 15 Damage [1d6] = 5 [1d20+3] = 17+3 = 20 Damage [1d6] = 4
Dropping his bow, he rushes towards the first pair of riders, (W2 if W1 was killed by his arrows) trying to impale the second orc with his sword.
Attack w/ 2 Handed Sword [1d20+3] = 3+3 = 6 Damage [1d10+5] = 6+5 = 11
Cassius
The howling, growling, and yelling bring despair. Somewhere in the background, he can hear Kranstön's chant and it warms him slightly.
On his perch on top of Wagon A, Cassius flexes his hand and calls to the caravan. "Stay there, watch the horses. They may try to bolt."
Initiative: [1d10] = 2
1st round: Cassius lines up and fires three shots. One each at the rider of w6, w5, and w7.
1st shot: (w6) Longbow (19): [1d20+3] = 7+3 = 10 +1 =11
Longbow damage: [1d8+6] = 1+6 = 7
2)(w5) Longbow (19): [1d20+3] = 4+3 = 7+1 =8
3)(w7) Longbow (19): [1d20+3] = 15+3 = 18 +1 =19
Longbow damage: [1d8+6] = 6+6 = 12
2nd round: Again, the elven archer is a flurry of fire. He aims for the mounts this time. w6, w5, w7.
1st shot:(w6) Longbow (19): [1d20+3] = 12+3 = 15 +1 =16
Longbow damage: [1d8+6] = 6+6 = 12
2)(w5) Longbow (19): [1d20+3] = 2+3 = 5
3)(w7) Longbow (19): [1d20+3] = 16+3 = 19 +1 =20
Longbow damage: [1d8+6] = 5+6 = 11
Cassius inwardly curses the luck of W5. "He's a slippery one, that."
"Haha! This is it, fellows! Let them have it!" cries Kranstön
Not sure how many rounds of chanting Kranstön got in before the worgs arrived. If he got in three rounds and so achieved the two round +1 bonus for everyone, he'll break off and fire his sling at an oncoming rider from between wagons A nd C as they circle around (see below). Otherwise he'll keep singing from inside the circle of the wagons:
Incoming round:
Attack with Sling Bullet (THAC0=19): [1d20] = 17, Damage vs. s/m: [1d4+1] = 3+1 = 4 vs. L: [1d6+1] = 6+1 = 7 (+1 to attack and damage for Chant not figured in)
R1:
If still at a distance: Attack with Sling Bullet (THAC0=19): [1d20] = 8, Damage vs. s/m: [1d4+1] = 3+1 = 4 vs. L: [1d6+1] = 3+1 = 4 (+1 to attack and damage for Chant not figured in)
If they have closed and melee is necessary: Attack with Quarterstaff (THAC0=20): [1d20] = 19, Damage s/m/L: [1d6] = 3 (+1 to attack and damage for Chant not figured in)
Border Watch vs. Goblins & Worgs 1
As the last notes of Kranston's chant echoes through the trees, and the Goblin-riding worgs rush toward the wagons, arrows pierce the black fur and dark flesh!
Sai drives a shaft deep into W2, while Montego, shooting alongside him, hits W1 hard, nearly dropping the big wolf.
Firing from the back wagon, Cassius skewers the Goblin rider on W5 through the head and the creature squawks and tumbles off its wolf. He cleanly misses the rider on W6, but drills the rider on W7...however, the arrow, sure to be a killing blow, deflects off into the shadows!
Cassius:
There's no way in hell you missed that goblin...but somehow the arrow didn't do any damage... :o
Perched on the northern most wagon (C), Muldgarr offers a prayer to Silvanus as he fires with his composite bow, striking W3 in the shoulder, and making a dandy shot on W4, driving a shaft into its chest, puncturing a lung! (Crit = double damage)
Kranston finishes his chant just before the arrows take flight, and he hurries to a spot between Cassius and Muldgarr and winds up his sling. His bullet beans the Goblin rider on W5, killing it stone dead and it rolls off the back of the worg.
(Moved his attack to G5 since G6 was already dead ;) )
Kranston hoots, and then brandishes his quarterstaff as the worgs come charging in for melee! Darting toward the wagons, even leaping upon them!
I'm guessing Montego and Kranston are going with their melee actions, right?
The rest of you may want to reconsider since it's about to get ugly...fast!
Kranstön watches the worg rush in to the gap, suddenly feeling much less heroic and much more frightened. He snatches his quarterstaff from his back and swings the oaken weapon with all his might, aiming for the snout:
Attack with Quarterstaff (THAC0=20): [1d20] = 16, Damage s/m/L: [1d6] = 1
Round 1
Initiative Order: Cassius (2), Goblins/Worgs (3), Muldgarr (4), Montego (6), Sai (7)
Worg Initiative: [1d10] = 3
Seeing the charging worgs, Cassius calmly draws and fires, draws and fires. His first shaft pierces the neck of W6, buckling its knees and bringing it to a skidding halt about four feet from Kranston's position. Switching his aim from the Goblin rider to its mount, he fires upon W7, punching through it's chest as it leaps atop one of the wagons (C). It's rider jumps off as it tumbles backward to land in an unmoving heap on the ground.
It's Goblin rider snarls in a very un-Goblin-like manner...and begins to change form! And as it changes, it shimmers...and disappears! Only to reappear right in front of Cassius!
Image
The beast...whatever the hell it is!...rears up on its two hind legs and prepares to attack!
Seeing their leader's true form revealed, whips the Goblins and worgs into a fighting frenzy!
G/W2 & G/W3 circle and attack Montego, one of the Goblins slashing him across the back while the Worg from another delivers a crushing bite to his ribs!
G2/W2 attack: [1d20] = 19 [1d6] = 5 [1d20] = 1 [2d4] = 6
G3/W3 attack: [1d20] = 7 [1d6] = 1 [1d20] = 17 [2d4] = 5
In severe pain, Montego chops at the G2, but it easily dodges his weakened swing.
Muldgarr tenses at one of the worgs (W4) leaps upon the edge of the wagon, its rider jabbing at him with a spear. Seeing the situation they are in, Muldgarr fires point blank into the face of the Worg trying to leap upon the wagon. The shaft enters its throat and exits just below the back of its head, killing it instantly! (Crit baby!) It topples off the wagon, and its rider leaps on to land near the corner.
Kranston watches the worg rush in and he grabs his quarterstaff, fending off the beast's snapping jaws.
W5 attack: [1d20] = 8 [2d4] = 5
The Dwarf chanter pivots his staff and brings it down hard on top of the worg's head, cracking its teeth and causing it to yelp in pain and surprise. (D3 > I used the attack you posted initially; will save the other for the next round, or you can post a new one)
While the rest of you are fighting for your lives, a lone Goblin (G1) crawls over the edge of the wagon holding Emerell and hurls a spear into her thigh! G1 attack: [1d20] = 15 [1d6] = 4
She screams in pain, falling backward onto some crates, as the Goblin hoots with glee and reaches for the blade at its belt.
The round ends with another scream...this one coming from the horses. Should anyone chance a glance, they would see a very wounded Worg (W1) limping toward the horses, bloody slobber dripping from its maw...but it's intent is clear.
Image
Alright folks > this is how the first official round ends > up close and personal, with Montego taking the brunt of the damage. Doug, still waiting on Sai's adjusted actions for Round 1.
Alright > give me your actions for Round 2 and maybe even for Round 3. Good luck!
Sai
Round 1 Revamp.
Sai will move back and protect the horses. Drawing and firing on the Worg with Bow. Works well since I go last anyway.
[1d20] = 2 Long Bow
Miss.
[1d20+2] = 13+2 = 15 Long Bow
[1d8] = 1 Arrow damage
Round 2
[1d10] = 9 Init
Mental to Talon. Help the Girl She needs you. Strike the Goblin down.
Long Bow fires at the Worg moving to the Horses.
[1d20+2] = 9+2 = 11 Long Bow
AC 7 Thinks that is a Miss
[1d20+2] = 17+2 = 19 Long Bow
[1d8] = 3 Arrow damage
Despite the alarming odds, Montego grits his teeth through the pain caused by his fresh wounds and continues to fight, targeting any wounded worgs first.
Attack w/ 2 Handed Sword [1d20+3] = 19+3 = 22 Damage [1d10+5] = 3+5 = 8
Attack w/ 2 Handed Sword [1d20+3] = 6+3 = 9 Damage [1d10+5] = 8+5 = 13
Cassius
The true form of the beast throws Cassius off for a moment, and when it blinks in front of him he yelps. "What the hells?!"
Loathe to drop his bow, he nevertheless is forced to do so and draw his longswords. Keeping a keen eye on the horses and Emerell, he knows he must end this fight soon.
Longsword 1 (19): [1d20+3] = 3+3 = 6
Longsword 2 (19): [1d20+1] = 19+1 = 20
Kranstön, unaware of the danger to Eustace, continues to assail the worg in front of him. We can use the roll I've already got in the hopper, which I believe does 1 damage.
"HaHA! Take that you cur!" he yells as he bops the thing hard on the nose again.
Round 2 > Wagon Battle
Initiative Order: Cassius (2), Goblins/Worgs (3), Muldgarr (4), Montego (6), Sai (7)
"What the hells?" Cassius exclaims upon seeing the "Goblin" reveal its true form.
Dropping his bow, the Wood Elf draws steel and attacks, but the beast easily dodges his blade.*(see note below)
The "Goblin" thing :twisted: swipes at Cassius, snarling and slavering at the mouth; its talons shred his tunic, but do not pierce his armor.
With Sai retreating back to the horses, having only nicked one of the worgs (W3) (from your retro attacks), the pair converge on Montego. How the ranger manages to stay alive is indeed a blessing from the gods! Even so, he takes a vicious thrust through armor and into his ribs, spilling more of his blood.
Goblin attacks: [1d20] = 20 [1d6] = 3 [1d20] = 17 [1d6 Crit! double damage = 6 pts.
Worg attacks: [1d20] = 12 [2d4] = 6 [1d20] = 4 [2d4] = 4
Montego grits his teeth and responds in kind. With a powerful two-handed strike, he breaks bone and rends flesh, dropping one of the Worgs like a sack! (W2) He then goes after its rider and somehow misses the squawking creature as it tumbles away from him.
Montego suddenly hears a thud behind him and wheels around, expecting another attack. Instead, he sees Malin! The caravan leader has leapt from the wagon to join him. He takes a swipe at the other worg and misses, but manages to get its attention.
Perhaps too focused on slaying a worg, Muldgarr is not prepared for its rider...which drives two feet of steel deep into his belly! Goblin attacks: [1d20] = 19 [1d6] = 3
The Goblin cackles as Muldgarr staggers back, dropping his bow...and drawing steel! He slashes at the creature, but in his weakened state, the Goblin easily blocks it.
As Sai backs into the center, a worg ducks under the legs of one of the horses and snaps at him, causing the beast to rear and damn near kick Sai in the head!
Worg 1 attack: [1d20] = 4 [2d4] = 4
Sai leaps back and fires at the worg, barely missing it. The beast gets ready to spring for another attack, but Sai puts an arrow through its right eye, dropping it in its tracks.
Emerell screams again as the Goblin in her wagon moves in for the kill. But the foul creature never makes it close to her. For out of the dusky sky plunges the great owl, Talon! Summoned by its master, the owl snatches the Goblin and carries it away! Its screeches can be heard as they go.
Image
Kranston chuckles to himself, having fended off a worg once...but then it is his turn to yelp in pain as the beast recovers and lunges at him, clamping its teeth down on his arm!
Worg 5 attack: [1d20] = 16 [2d4] = 4
The priest retrieves his arm and swiftly cracks the worg over the head again, but this time only a glancing blow, and the worg turns away to circle back once more.
Things having just 'gotten real,' Kranstön is a bit shocked. They never mention in the songs how much getting bitten by a slavering beast actually hurts. A lot.
Winding up, the bard focuses intently on getting the timing right, waiting for the twitch of the beast's muscles as it lunges before baseball swinging his staff two-handed, trying to catch it in the side of the head:
Attack with Quarterstaff (THAC0=20): [1d20] = 14, Damage s/m/L: [1d6] = 6
