Ardium simply smirks and wonders... he waits for the response while watching for arrows coming their way.

Dorobo follows a healthy pace behind roderic, out of sight and looks for any place along the path that he might be able to duck under cover and hide while still seeing what transpires ahead. He draws his bow and takes an arrow in the off hand, just in case.

Nexus has no intention of following the crazy paladin. He remains with August, but moving into the bushes so he might be able to see what’s occurring whilst remaining somewhat hidden
Alexa picks the herbs and tucks them in her pack. After hearing the carts approach she hops into the river and keeps only her head exposed working her way down the river unseen.
Roderick nods to the others, indicating that they should hide if they want to, then steps boldly forward toward the approaching ruckus.
After clearing maybe half the distance to where the sound was heard -- but before the source of the sound came into view -- the Avatar halts in his tracks as a rustling sound overhead captures his attention.
Wood cracks.
A branch snaps.
A trio of primitive humans with grey-green skin, covered with coarse hair, come crashing down; arms and legs flailing as the forms drop the dozen or so feet of height. A large net they were carrying, now tangled in a neighboring branch, following them down.
"Baguuuuuuuuu...." the paladin hears the falling forms cursing in orcish. "Shit," he translates the crude language in his head.
The sound of the crashing causes the clomping of horse feet and the sound of the wagon in the distance to come to a halt.
Roderick, Unna, and Dorobo are able to hear multiple overlapping orcish voices coming from the original source of sound being investigated, but nothing specific can be understood from the current distance.
Delgrot, Jaroo, Ardiam, and Nexus still accompany August back at the stream -- which Alexa hops into, lowering herself until just her head remains above the surface -- hear a commotion coming from the direction of the noise being investigated by a few of their colleages. The sound is enough to raise a concern.

Dorobo readies an arrow and finds an orc in range. He thinks it over in his head a minute but neither running or hiding in a bush while his companions, however new and shallow their connections, face the threat alone seem like good options to him.
(thac0 is 17 with the bow. Not sure if he is in range and can shoot or not, but just in case he can and to speed up I'll roll a d20 now)
Alexa moves down stream pulling on ruts and rocks to remain silent, trying and get a look at whoever the owner of the horses are. She stays low in the water and works her way along the bank down the river until the horses come into view. Slowly peeking over the river edge to see if she can see anyone.

Roderick draws his sword and levels it at the fallen would-be ambushers. "Surrender!" he commands in orcish.
If the orcs make any move other than compliance with his order, he attacks.
Round 1 Unna, whom had been following a short distance behind Roderick, draws her sword at the sound of the commotion. "Looks like some orc's were planning an ambush, Roderick." she speaks aloud as she advances to the Avatar's aide, but does not instigate the orcs with an attack without yet knowing their intentions.
Ardium, still lingering well behind the rest, hear the calls from up ahead. He moves cautiously as he attempts to clear the distance Roderick and the rest had already traversed, but is able to make out little more than human-sized shapes moving in the distance. still fails to draw close enough to get a decent enough vantage point to know what is taking place ahead of him.
The first orc to act quickly wrestles himself free from the bit of net that landed on him and draws a one of a handful of spears that are strapped to its back. "Lat liwo still pay... ar your life!" it growls at Roderick as it reaches out and jabs powerfully with its spear, rattling the paladin as it clips the side of his chain mail armor (-1). The business end of a spear attack coupled with the "You will still pay... with your life!" warning which he translated to himself has Roderick convinced these orcs mean business.
Jaroo manages to keep pace with Ardium. While neither are able to draw close enough to make out specific details, the pair do hear and orc growl something, and Roderick briefly wince in pain. August, a bow now in hand, accompanies Jaroo and Ardium.
Alexa continues to slowly wade downstream, but comes to realize that it isn't necessarily heading in the direction of the potential conflict up ahead. She is absolutely safe from any threat in the distance, but also won't be of any assistance in her current course of actions. While not in the stream, Nexus remains well back from what they all assume is an attack up ahead. "Failed ambush or a distraction?"Delgrot wonders aloud, deciding along with Alexa and Nexus to not immediately engage in whatever is taking place roughly 50-yards in front of them.
Before Roderick has a chance to defend himself, the remaining two orcs quickly move to swarm the Avatar, but both fail to connect as the paladin knocks away the sword swipe with his shield and shifts out of the tridents attack path. The sword-wielding foe skillfully managing to sneak its blade past the paladin's shield (-3), but Roderickbarely manages to shift out of harm's way of the tri-tipped trident at it is thrust angrily in his direction.
"Aklafa!"Roderick commands his foes surrender in orcish... to no effect. Quickly surveying the three attackers, the Avatar assesses the spear-wielding orc to have suffered most significantly from their fall, and targets it with his well-placed long sword jab. A pained gurgling is the last sound that particular creature will ever make as the blade slices deep into its fleshy midsection, slaying it both painfully and slowly.
Dorobo, without advancing, tries to sneak an arrow past the chaos of the melee unfolding before him and watches as his arrow sails harmlessly over the trident-orc's head.

The remaining orcs -- wearing hide armor with what appears to be a red teardrop shape painted in blood upon the chest -- show no signs of backing away from the fight despite their challenges in the afternoon sun.

Everyone, please roll initiative.
It will take two full rounds of movement (speed 12) to reach the conflict from the starting position.
Jaroo, Ardium, and August will arrive next round (2nd) and be able to make a ranged attack next round, or engage in melee in round 3.
Alexa, Nexus, and Delgrot will need at least two full rounds before being able to reach with ranged attacks, or three rounds to reach for melee.
Did not factor in the extra -1 on attack rolls due to Roderick's aura of protection. This would have caused the sword attack to miss. The narrative above and Roderick's hit points have been adjusted.
Actions for round 2?

Ardium continues his push forward, not realizing he had let himself fall too far behind. It is too dangerous to fire into the mob of folks, so he will forgo that option.
INIT [1d10] = 1
(and of course when it matters little, he rolls a 3 and then a 1... watch next round he gets a 10)

Dorobo can hear his heart pounding in his chest now. Salty sweat pours down his forehead into his eyes, stinging them. He squints and draws another arrow while surveying the ground to his right as he side steps in that direction.
"if the tin man falls things aren't looking good for us' he tells himself. Not exactly ready to draw his sword and rush into battle dorobo will hope his next shot proves more effective.
(Dorobo moves however far it is possible to his right without losing his attack, and considering any terrain restrictions... he will try to flank as best he can to avoid shooting over/through party members)
[1d10] = 10
(I think he gets bonus to initiative for dex, not sure...why +7 last time?)
[1d20] = 15
That hits AC 2 I believe
Shooting at sword wielder
