Wes

The druid immediately begins to call on the power of Obad Hai to surround the giant bird with a blue halo that will make it easier for the party of hunters to guide their arrows and blades.
Faerie Fire. Gives attackers +2 To Hit.

Wes has been looking for a parrot to be his buddy for weeks, and we kill the first one he sees. NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! :o :o :o

If it’s any consolation, Wes didn’t kill it. Stumpy did. :D

Greff takes a shot at the beast!

Short Bow Attack [1d20+2] = 20+2 = 22 Damage [1d6] = 3

Once he's hit his mark he'll begin to stow his bow and draw his bastard sword holding it in both hands.
Alright great first ever attack for Greff, hopefully a sign of things to come! :D

Wes calls on the powers of nature and the Shalm again, conjuring a halo of bright purple around the oncoming creature so it can be targeted easier. All but Stumpy take advantage of the help, plunking the huge, flightless bird with 3 arrows before it closes into melee range. Greff pokes out one of its eyes with his shot, causing it to rear up and kick wildly with its gangly, dangerous legs.

The speed of the things advance causes the hunters to forgo their second shots, switching from bows to steel just in time to greet the rush of this crazed monster chicken.

Wes

Wes sets his spear to meet the charge of the giant bird.

Spear [1d20] = 13; S/M [1d6] = 6; L [1d8] = 2
All but Stumpy take advantage of the help, plunking the huge, flightless bird with 3 arrows before it closes into melee range.

So when it's a helpless parrot, Stumpy's got no problem riddling it with arrows. But a giant monstosity with a razor-sharp beak and he comes over all shy? ;)

Greff

Once the bird reaches Wes, the ranger chargees the beast with a double handed swing!

Bastard Sword (Two Handed) [1d20] = 9 Damage [1d8] = 6

Stumpy shot at it too, he just missed badly. :D

I will update this action soon, NPC'ing Galanthas if I must.

Thanks for your patience!

As it draws near, you can see the creature a little bit better. It appears to have escaped the confines of some captor recently, as it has the remains of a frayed rope still tied around its long neck. You also see signs that it has been cut and burned with a brand recently. The creature is definitely not at full health or strength.

Wes sets his spear for the charge of the oncoming monster chicken and once again his action is thwarted by a quick change of plans. The 7 foot bird picks its head up higher as it closes the distance and catches a glimpse of open air beyond the tiny town with its one remaining eye. Steering away from the group slightly, it tries to run right past their shiny swords, apparently trying to reach safer pastures.

Stumpy and Ren both attack, Ren grazing it slightly with his longsword. Galanthas and Greff also rush up to engage the beast, though neither of them are able to connect despite the bright glow around it. Wes is able to reposition his spear, cutting it deeply, but only by the graces of his enhancement.

Though the druids attack seems to have slowed it a bit, the big bird doesn't even bother to return the attacks, seemingly more interested in escape than a lopsided battle. It tries to push past the group, heading straight for the shoreline just past the beach. The creature looks badly damaged.

Actions!

This thing is FAST. I will allow an attack of opportunity to anyone who wants one as it tries to flee, but you will need to pass a normal DEX check first in order to make an attack.

Galanthas tries to turn in time in order to hit the bird...

[1d20] = 5 [12 DEX]

And then tries to hit it with his long sword!

To hit with long sword [1d20] = 11; damage with long sword [1d8] = 8

I'm sorry, I didn't get any e-mails! But now I'm on again.

Wes

Seeing the giant bird speed past him, Wes forgoes his chance to strike at it, instead resorting to his magic. He takes a breath and tries to measure the bird's speed and likely path. Then he summons the power of The Shalm to make the vegetation in front of the beast come alive and entangle it.

Wes experiences a twinge of regret as he does so. As a servant of the god of the hunt, he considers it unfair to trap a hunted animal like this. But he can see that the bird is only moments from reaching the beach, where it could endanger innocent lives.

Greff swings at the beast as it tries to push by the group but his reflexes are just to slow.

Dex Check [1d20] = 15 vs 13

The speed of the giant birdlike monster makes it difficult for the fighters to make successful attacks. It screams right past the group without another scratch done to it. Ren gets a little nervous when it heads straight for a group of townsfolk near the shacks. "Hey! We need to take that thing down before it hurts somebody!"

Stumpy agrees. "YA NO SHIT! KILL THAT UGLY MOTHER!!!"

Wes saw this whole thing coming from a mile away, so he is already one step ahead of the others. He puts the struggle with his own personal prime directive behind him momentarily and begins casting his next enchantment, trying to gauge the speed of the bird so he can entrap it in the center portion of his entwining magic. As if he had done it a million times before, he keeps his phrases and movements steady and catches the monster at the outer edge of his spell, stopping it dead in its tracks before it can get any closer to its freedom.

The badly injured huge bird with the beak that looks like an ax is now temporarily caught by the roots, grasses, and other natural plants that grow throughout the town. They continue to wiggle and writhe in a circular pattern all around the wild blue chicken.

Galanthas runs towards the bird, weapon drawn, panting with the excercise and the excitement. He shouts to his companions "Should I slay the beast?" He looks directly at Wes at the end of his question.

Wes

Wes hesitates for a moment, considering if it would be worth using his magic to speak to the bird and find out where it had just escaped from. But he realizes that despite its large body, the bird's brain was only slightly bigger than a hobbit's, and like a hobbit, it would probably only make a lot of noise about nothing particularly useful.

Wes also considers that Greff's talent as a tracker would allow them to try and follow the creature's trail back from whence it came.

And, finally, Wes had prayed to Obad Hai to send a creature for them to hunt, after which the bird had appeared. He could hardly let the creature go in front of so many starving people. He meets Galanthas' gaze. "Yes, kill it".

Galanthas tries to kill the creature as quickly as possible with a thrust of his sword in the heart area. Staring at the dying bird, like absent-minded, he adds "It's done. The people of this town will have something to eat tonight. As promissed."
Do i have to make an attack roll for this? Hopefully not

I doubt you'll have to roll to hit it. But if OM is feeling evil, he might make you roll to see if you get caught in the Entangle spell...with a giant angry chicken

Galanthas gives chase with his sword at the ready, looking back to Wes for conformation to make the kill. Greff and Wes stay put, watching as the newcomer rushes directly into the area of the ensnaring plants. Before the elf gets close enough to make a strike, he too is caught up in the tangle of roots and weeds, stopping him in his tracks right where he stands.

Wes and Greff chuckle at the novice move while Ren and his short friend get into positions with their bows. Walking around the pesky patch and aiming towards the jungle, they each fire a volley of arrows at the beast, trying hard not to hit the ensnared elf in the process. In a manner of seconds, the axbeak lay dead on the ground, still wrapped up in the magical foliage for safekeeping. Galanthas looks down at the dead monster, more pleased that they can feed some of the townspeople again than embarrassed for his little flub.

A tall, wiry newcomer carrying a crossbow approaches the action, wide eyed as a child at the current proceedings. None of the men have ever seen this stranger before, but he seems incredibly interested in what has just transpired.

Greff inspects the creature from a safe distance smiling. "Great work everyone, looks like we've been more fortunate than not during this trip"

When the wiry man approaches the ranger readies himself up but not in a threatening way cautiously he approaches a few steps toward the man and offers a friendly way.

"Hail friend, my friends and I are just doing a bit of hunting how xan we help you?"
