Finnigan likewise examines the fireplace, to see if he can determine if the stonework is dwarven in origin or not and look for unusual structure or stones that seem out of place...

OOC: Finnigan examines fireplace for secret doors.

Assuming that the silver watermelon is not an immediate threat, Elitir begins checking the place over for secret doors or passageways. She doesn't notice anything out of the ordinary in the walls, ceilings, or floor, and hears no noise coming from the single wooden door down the long hallway.

Sprig and Fin join the others already at the fireplace. They both check it out carefully as well and determine a few things. There is no heat coming off of the fire as already noted. The stonework is of good quality, but not good enough to have been made by dwarven hands. Checking inside of the opening itself reveals only one secret. There is no flu or chimney installed, it is made entirely of solid stone. Luckily, the fire does not produce sparks or smoke, as it would have no place to escape.

Zefarrel: I'll keep an eye on Metal-Melon. Staff in hand, she positions herself between the odd creature and the door.

Pumfrey tiptoes up to the door, sidestepping Mr Melon, while checking for traps. He also listens carefully, putting his finger to his lips for the others to keep quiet.

Is there a keyhole? Can he see through it? He also feels for draughts etc.

Sprig, his curiosity growing by the second, will make his way carefully to the corner cabinet, also avoiding the melon. He'll examine the cabinet and the area around it for catches, switches, tripwires, pressure plates, etc. "My money is on that thing being some sort of defense system. Be careful what you touch," he says nodding towards the thing.

Mac

Disappointed at the lack of heat coming from the fireplace, he reluctantly puts his damp robes back on. He moves to the giant mirror and starts to examine things in the reflection. He is looking for anything that doesn't match. "Hmmm...interesting..."

Grossphil the Feeble

Abandoning the table of items until everyone else is ready to look at them so as not to cause another unforeseen catastrophe, Grossphil will join Mac at the mirror. "The others are doing a thorough search of the room which is a good idea, though I do think this room is mostly just a parlor or entry room of some kind."

Grossphil frowns at the mirror and decides to make sure it's real and not an illusion. However, since he's afraid of potentially catching some lingering disease on the mirror, he takes one of the sprigs of belladonna from his pocket and will touch it to the mirror. If he still believes the mirror is real, he will attempt to disbelieve illusions anyway. If that produces nothing of significance, Grossphil will wait to reconvene with the rest of the party to make a decision on what to do next.

Sorry for the delay, everyone. I'm not sure what's happened to Finnigan.

Living Room
Arrival Evening

The metallic melon continues its walk around the floor, paying no attention to the new visitors whatsoever. Zefarrel puts herself in a strategic position as she keeps an eye on the strange thing. It ignores her as well. Elitir suggests that the thieves check out the smaller door, providing back-up wherever necessary. Pumfrey obliges and hops over the wandering silver guard dog on his way to the corner. The halfling finds no indication that the door might be trapped, so he takes a listen. He isn't completely sure, but he could swear that he hears a squeaky giggling coming from within.

Sprig tells the group to watch what they touch as he moves to investigate the corner cabinet. It is also made from a dull colored metal and has what looks like a thick rubber strip all the way around the inside of the door where it meets the cabinet. He searches it over carefully and is fairly certain that it has not been tampered with by anyone of a nefarious bent. The metal door feels ever so slightly cold to the touch of the tiny wet gnome.

Mac re-dons his drenched robes and makes his way over to the mirror. He stares at it with some interest, wondering if it has any hidden surprises. All he finds is a soaking wet, grey haired human staring back at him, holding a long wooden pole in his hand. The frame looks very ornate, crafted and shaped from some strange dark colored metal. Looking it over for some time does not reveal anything other than his soggy reflection. Grossphil eventually joins him at the mirror, revealing yet another drenched reflection. He touches some of his wet herbs to the pane, trying to decide if it is real or not. It definitely feels like a mirror to him, but he still doesn't seem convinced, so he attempts to disbelieve its existence. Nothing happens.

Finnigan sees lots of people doing lots of different things so he decides to do nothing for a bit and wait to see what the group wants to do next...

Mac

Not finding anything in the reflection, Mac fishes for something in his robes and holds it up to his eye. He starts slowly turning in a circle, surveying the room.

Zefarrel takes a small piece of food from her iron rations and tosses it on the floor to see if there is a reaction from mellon-boy.

Grossphil the Feeble

"Guys we do know this is some mage's stronghold, it's highly likely this entire room is filled with distractions. For example someone giggling behind a door? Something tells me that's just a little trick and nothing to worry about. We need to either open one of these doors and start investigating the items on the table, but we should make a group decision and not just open things randomly without consulting the others. I've heard many stories of parties who adventure and die because they were reckless. Let's not become one of those. I may be feeble but I'm no fool: I think checking out the items is our best option moving forward. Who's with me?"

"It might be better if you smarties try and figure out the objects while some of us stand guard," Finnigan finally speaks up.

Grossphil the Feeble

Grossphil walks back over to the table littered with items. He looks at each one in turn before quickly ruling out the dagger: he wouldn't be able to do much more than lift it. And even that could be a struggle. Instead his eyes set on the strange metal object shaped like the letter 'C'.

"That piece of paper I found earlier said something about a wizard named Castamir. Name starts with a C, so something tells me this might be the item we want." Grossphil will pick up the item.

Living Room
Arrival Evening

Mac fishes a shiny gemstone from his robes and begins peering through it as he slowly scans the room. The rest of you hear a few audible "hmmmmm's" from the wet wizard as he does so.

Pumfrey reports back to the others about his strange findings behind the smaller door.

Grossphil agains cautions the group about doing too many frivolous actions at once, even going so far as to warn them of possible death and dismemberment......just as Sprig reaches up to pop open the door on the metallic corner cabinet.

The gnome feels a slight resistance on his pull, and hears a soft suction noise as the door starts to open. Once the seal is broken, the cold door swings open fluently. A sudden rush of icy cold air and frozen vapor pour out of the door once it's cracked, but it soon disapates in the warmth of the room, allowing the inquisitive gnome a look at what's inside the metallic cabinet. He sees a various assortment of clear plates, cups, goblets, and other strange trophies that are all inscribed with some strange looking unfamiliar inscriptions. The temperature inside the strange cabinet is absolutely freezing, colder than anything the gnome has ever experienced before.

Possibly sensing a theme, Zefarrel tries a little experiment of her own as well. Digging through her pack, she finds her ruined, water logged rations. She tosses some soggy hardtack onto the floor in front of the silver watermelon. It stops, circles the refuse, stops again, then reacts. A thin ray of clear energy shoots out from the front end of the silver object that completely envelops the proffered hardtack. Just like that, the ray ceases again and the mess has vanished entirely. The silver watermelon then resumes its random walk around the room.

The sickly elf decides to have a closer look at the items on the table while Finnigan and Elitir stand guard. He tries to pick the shiny metallic C up to investigate it, but he is unable to even lift it from the table. Zefarrel notices nothing odd happen once the item is touched.
