Szmodics and
Rexlin both compete to see which of them can play 'the big bad wolf and blow down the door of the little piggy's house'. Both cannons roar to bring the initial assault to an explosive conclusion though with far different results.
Szmodics loads his Iberian six pounder cannon with some round shot. Maybe the cannon bore is blocked or broken by previous incoming shells, whatever the cause the bore explodes and within a deathly radius of 15'ft shrapnel, cast iron remnants and molten lead bearings slice through the air.
Rexlin and
'Fishy' fire their cannon at the barricaded door. It blows it apart, even sending splinters to stick out of the stern deck above. In the aftermath of the clearing smoke, two injured and bloodied Iberian sailors give themselves up to the mercy of the pirates. The last cleric, is defiantly clutching a carved wooden holy symbol, holding it tightly to his chest and muttering Iberian chants for protection and grace. He stumbles out half blinded, splinters pockmark his exposed blistered flesh. He has no weapon to hand and scraps of paper embers float in ashes around the blasted quarters. A fine and rich silken divan is smouldering with fiery embers and an inlaid mahogany desk now split asunder. Contents and trinkets are spread across the room and
Pocc's crew of designer eye patch wearing raiders decide to cash in and loot further, grabbing handfuls of stuff to assess at their leisure.
Pocc exits the side cabin, luckily shielded from the cannon fire. He declines to wear one of the exotic patches that they found under the halfling's bunk.
Iggway enhances the unseen servant, casting a divine light on the bandana that the valet wears. The summoned force of mage
Siggard descends to the cargo hold below. It is only a few rungs of the ladder down when out of the corner of the comes some vicious large mastiff. The rusty red furred animal is quite large for a dog, with menacing glowing red eyes, a soot blackened mouth with coal dark canines and a snarling growl. It leaps up on its hind legs to tear and snatch at the red bandana, provoked almost like a bull in an arena. The creature grabs the cloth and burns it with some fiery breath. Surprised by the onslaught
Siggard and
Van de Poel both trigger their weapons but miss the beast which bounces off out of view. The light spell cloth fragments float like festive sparklers, partially illuminating the bunk room. Hammocks are swinging from hooks across the room and some wooden furniture clog the room. A small corridor leads off into the central cargo area.
Zoggrot and his henchmen make short work of the Iberian sailors on the deck. They drop weapons to surrender but are mercilessly gutted where they stand. The disembowelled cleric feebly clutching his wounds and crawling away is routinely shot in the head by
Lazarus who targets him from the
McGregor
Geoffrey leads his men two abreast into the decks below, following the fleeing sailor through the grill door and down some wide steps which descend into the cargo bay. It is also slowly flooding, the water reaching the bottom step. Debris, bodies among them litter the room. As Geoffrey takes the steps down a pistol shot rings out, striking into the deck above his head.
Ib pistol fire [1d20+1] = 1+1 = 2 [2d4] = 4Raul and Ignato [1d20] = 14 [1d20] = 12 [1d6] = 5 [1d6] = 5 emerging from under some sail cloth, two sailors slash with their cutlasses and stab at the first two intruders. Geoffrey takes a deep wound to his thigh
(-5hp)
and back to the fumble roll on Szmodics cannon fire... It is a good time to test out the effects of cannon blasts upon the characters and NPC's. Check out the 'Armour and Weapons' last notes for bonus -1 or -2 if applicable to the roll. Depends upon armour type and additional factors such as protection rings.
It takes Szmodics and his five crew three rounds to load and fire the cannon. Enough time for Geoffrey and his men to descend to the cargo hold as they narrated. However everyone else on the upper deck, Szmo and Co', Zoggrot and men, Holden and Iggway are within the blast radius.
Each needs to make a hard [4d6] vs dex saving throw or take full damage from the blast (-8hp),successful saves equate to half damage(-4hp).Zoggrot in his bone armour gets a -1 bonus to the roll. Roll a separate [4d6] also for the men you have, one roll for the groups fate.
next actions please everyone.
